I am absolutely disgusted by Abbeydale vets at both the Darwen and Blackburn practice. The receptionists are extremrly rude and the vets are just as bad! Several times I attempted to change my address with them and every time they failed to update their system. 2 months ago one of my Cats appeared ill. It was 5.15 on a Saturday evening and I contacted abbeydale. They told me to take him straight in to the Blackburn surgery. I was very upset at the time anyway and when I got there i thanked the receptionist for waiting. All she did was tut at me! She then said that before I could be seen and as I was a bad debtor! Woah hang on there! How canI pay an invoice I haven't received because you haven't updated my address despite the fact I have used you several times and nobody told me there was outstanding money on the account!!!!! I paid £120 for him to be seen! When I saw the vet she said my Cat was very ill and she more or less said it was my fault for not noticing sooner! Now correct me uf I'm wrong, but I thought thats what I was paying them for?! My Cat had shown no other signs or symptoms or I would've taken him straight in. They wanted to keep him in over night so I left him there. I got a phonecall about 30 minutes later to say he had died of Pneumonia. When I phoned on the Monday I was told that before I could have his body back I woukd have to pay £160.00. I askedwhat this was for and they said it was for a drip and a chest xray. My payday wasn't for another 10 days and I felt that was alot of money. She basically said that I would not get him back until I had paid the money. I asked to speak to the manager who was disgustingly unpleasant and rude. After much debate it was finally agreed that I could pay £80 then and pay the rest in installments. when I went to collect Him, the manager felt it was ok to discuss the situation in a waiting room full of people! Whilst I was there the receptionist took a phonecall. Again, in a waiting room full of people she told the vet it was a booking for the neutering of a bulldog to which the vet rolled her eyes and said For Gods Sake I will never, ever forgive Abbeydale for their blatant lack of customer care or basic manners. They made me feel like a criminal and made me feel so guilty about the death of my Cat. There was not one positive experience. The cost was extremely high. I was a customer for five years and always paid on time. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Animals are part of your family and for a group of awful individuals like the ones that work for Abbeydale to be so cold and heartless, it makes me sick! They should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!! read more

absalutly discrasefull. I paid £150 for xrays and bloods yet no shave part on my dogs leg or anywere els. When went to get second opinion the bloods that the vet suposed to have taken showed the new vets my dog had cronic liver failure, but on further blood test by the new vets was something to do with her kidneys. All in all ive spent over £500 for a simple kidney infection. I would advise not going to abbydale blackburn as it allways seems to be bloods and xrays yet the first thing should of been a urine sample as my dog was drinking and weeing alot , but no they took the most expencive root. i cant belive also my dog was left possibly with this kidney infection since nov 2011. And shes had a temperature for ages aswell according to the notes that were passed to the new vets. This is utter animal neglect . these are living animals and we get screwed for there care . Town and country are great and my dog is now on the mend with a long course of antibiotics and anti inflamatrys . I also think they charge whatever they want cause sometimes there prices change. I told them i had about £150 and they even wrote this on the system yet guess what its came to exactly £150 for her care . there a practise that needs investergating big time either that or closed down read more

I have some great things to say about this practice and Darwen practice, I however have one issue which is not so great... The practice is clean,organised and the vets are all wonderful. I have confidence in every one of them. The vets are great at explaining to you what is wrong with your cat or dog and the service is reasonably priced. My main BIG issue is some of the receptionists. I have heard on quite a few occasions the receptionists discussing the person who has just gone into the private surgery room and making comments such as ' I cant believe he is here again' or 'oh no what does he want again'. It is not nice to listen to and makes you think twice about going in as you have the feeling that you are also going to be talked about. There can be a funny atmosphere at times when a few of the mentioned receptions are working and it makes the service receive a poorer rating because of this. If the managers would correct the customer service issues and not allow such 'cliques' to form then it would be a 5 star practice. read more

lease be AWARE and STAY AWAY from this vets if you care about your pets! My beloved dog DIED due to them not doing what they should of done and now there LIEING on reports to cover there own asses. Absolutely shocking when I've been with them for nearly a decade. Money and getting home is more important than any animal to them. Has devastated my family due to there negligence currently in the process of going to court. No animal should of suffered the way mine did at the end.. no owner should watch there animal die the way I did. Has brought depression to me right before Christmas and they have no sympathy at all or my animal would still be here. I do hope no animal ever go's to this vets and I'm going to make it my personal mission to make sure everyone no. Terrible,rude receptionists. Rude nurses. One really hormonal and rude Vet. It would seem that the cure all is a steroid injection,which whatever you seem to take your dog/cat with, you seem to get. I have no time whatsoever for anybody at Abbeydale with the exception of Mr Holroyd. Very high prices and god help you if you have pet insurance as lots of things will be added to your bill to suck it dry of all of its available money for the year. One vet recommended a 4k operation, I took my dog for a second opinion at another Vet and it must be a miracle as he did not need the operation after all, just painkillers and rest for a sore leg. read more

Totally disgusted with abbeydale took my dog in with a sore leg and been told quite blatantly I either pay 3 tho for a operation or the dog will lose its leg disgusted and offended with the way been spoke to The dog is a loved family puppy it's like I had no say in about my puppy ashamed abbeydale and deeply offended like you care anyway read more

I've been going to Abbeydale for a couple of years now, and I have nothing but praise for them. I have found everyone there really friendly I don't understand where all the other comments on this page have come from. I'm very happy with how they have looked after my cat, and would recommend them to anyone. read more
