This is the second time I have brought in equipment to Big Gene's in Odell. The first time was work…read moreon a tiller that I had recently purchased on Craigslist and it popped a carburetor or something of the sort. A week later it was good to go and I had it in time to till my garden before last fall. A few weeks ago, I took in a lawnmower that I hadn't used in over three years after it had blown a gasket or something of that nature; I won't lie here, I'm not the most mechanically inclined as it skipped a generation in my family. After a little fix and a tune up, I picked it up yesterday and it started up on the first pull. Sounds like the day it was born! My father told me about this place a couple of years ago after they had done some work for him with his chainsaws. I'm glad I went and will take all of my small motor equipment to them. Thanks again! Highly recommended!

I got back from a recent 7 month deployment in June and I needed to get the lawn mowed ASAP! I attempted to fire up my trusty ol' Toro, but it did not start. It had rained on it all winter. But is also could have been old gas. Perhaps a dirty carburetor? I tired to tinker at it myself, but I think I made it worse. I was forced to take it to the experts. After a quick Google search, pretty much the only small engine repair business in the Valley was Big Gene's. I drove my Toro up to Odell and droped it off. I had a great conversation with the female-half of the business. She really knew her stuff. I was expecting it to take at least week and would probably have to call them first for an update, but no! I got a call less than 24 hrs later saying it was ready and working great. Started right up with one pull. And let's just say they charged me next to nothing! They also had several items for sale like other lawn equipment and generators. I might check them out in the future for possibly a used Honda eu2200i. Thanks guys! You're awesome.

This 24/7 laundromat is located right next to (and I'm guessing is probably technically owned by)…read moreRaindrop Laundry. (They are separate facilities with separate entrances.) This self-service laundromat is completely unstaffed. Presumably, if one had an issue, they would have to go next door or call someone to resolve it. Fortunately, I didn't have any issues during my time here. Even though it was unstaffed, there were plenty of security cameras, and they appeared to be real. I didn't notice any disruptive customers in the laundromat or in the general area. When I walked in, it seemed to be empty, although a couple of people arrived after I did. There was plenty of seating, and they had some of the coolest folding tables I've ever seen. There were four separate large tables, and each had top sections. So, it would be nearly impossible for one person to hog the entire folding section. This laundromat is certainly not what I would call "modern," as the machines only accept quarters, and all have manually locking handles. (As far as I can tell, most Oregonians will go their entire lives without experiencing a modern laundromat. I haven't found a single modern laundromat in this whole state yet. They aren't even close to understanding how much modernity they are missing out on.) Prices were reasonable overall, although I couldn't figure out the price of the dryers without putting quarters in, and the dryers didn't work very well as compared to their same models at other laundromats. It's as if they had either been poorly maintained for many years, or the heat was set to lower than it should have been (in spite of my ensuring that I had selected the correct setting). There was a quarter dispensing machine which seemed to work fine, but the washing machine would have eaten at least three extra quarters if I had let it (on an $8 cycle). On the bright side, this laundromat was much cleaner looking and better smelling than the other laundromat in town (next to Grocery Outlet) which I'd walked out of right before coming here. It still didn't smell great, though. There was a pronounced mold/mildew stench in the air, which I have found to be true at almost every single laundromat I've gone to in Oregon so far. The cleanliness was not great, although it was better than any of my alternatives without having to drive an hour or wash everything by hand or pay someone else to do it... There was a large bug with spotted wings on top of the dryer. The insides of the washer doors were all caked with this nasty green stuff around the edges, and some of it definitely broke off into my laundry. I used a lot of soap, but still, gross. The insides of the soap dispensers on the washer were also really nasty and looked like they were definitely not cleaned on a regular basis, if they had ever been cleaned at all. Maybe the staff is thinking, "soap is clean, you don't need to clean it," but soap buildup attracts bugs and can cause allergy problems for anyone using the machine who is allergic to that soap. The toilet in the restroom looked like it had literally never been cleaned. So, I have a lot of misgivings about the cleanliness, yet it's reasonably priced, not too crowded, and better than any of any other nearby options I'm aware of.

The postal annex place in Hood River is much easier to actually use as a business and especially if you live outside of town at all and make trips to town during daytime hours to run errands. I'm sure as White Salmon grows and changes this business will have to adapt and offer more normal access during business hours but not sure if it will do so in time to survive.
