I may have made Mr. Snarky take me out to top up on yarn. We went to a couple of places, but I really wasn't finding everything I needed (or perhaps wanted). Since we were already near Preston and Mr. Snarky wanted to stop in at a particular store, we drove in and stopped at Abakhan. I really loved the store in Manchester, so I was hoping for the same reaction here.
Parking is a nightmare when it is busy. It is in a retail park with other stores, but my suspicion is that some park in this car park and walk over to the high street and shopping area since this is a free car park. Just keep that in mind as the car park was full when we got there.
This store is a bit smaller than the one in Manchester. From the outside I thought it would be huge, but the top floor isn't very large, so it limits how much stock they carry. On the ground floor is fabric, but again I was after yarn, which was on the top floor. On that floor you'll also find sewing patterns, buttons, and foam forms for crafting.
While the store did have some interesting types of yarn and some lovely colours, they didn't have the brand I was looking for so I could continue with my blanket. Maybe it is because I spent 50 quid on a couple skeins of yarn and a couple of hooks that I thought the yarns this store carried were quite expensive. There were books for sewing and knitting, but only one on crochet and I was a bit disappointed by that as I was looking for more patterns. It still offers quite a bit, but if you are looking for specific items, they may or may not have it. The staff weren't particularly helpful regarding ordering things in, but I tend to think that sort of service only happens with small, independent stores. Not bad, but probably won't be my usual yarn shop. read more
