I'm sorry, but no ... This is not actually a fabric store. This is a tiny, dinky little shop that…read moresells a lot of ribbon, lace, trims, and sewing notions and happens to have a couple of bolts of fabric in stock just so that they can say they are a "fabrics" store. I was not impressed by the quality of the stock, either. The whole place has a cheap feel to it, and I would not go back here. I do think the ribbon selection was okay--they were not really cheap, and they would suffice for most projects. But don't call yourself a fabric store unless you actually sell more fabric than other items.

I have been using Maureen's Fabrics for 20 plus years. They have a range of fabric and plenty of…read morehaberdashery. They also have a shop in Southport, so if I want something they don't have in stock in Ormskirk, they phone through to Southport and it can be brought through for you to pick up at ormskirk the next day ( or often several hours later) or if you can get through to Southport they will hold the item for you there. I could go to the big warehouses or large fabric stores if I had the time or inclination, but so far Maureen's has always had the items I require and a wealth of sewing and craft knowledge to help out. If it wasn't in Ormskirk I would miss it. I nipped in today for some ribbons and ended up buying a pattern and fabric for a maxi dress. If they weren't there, I would probably have bought the ribbon off the Internet and missed out on buying myself the fabric and extras to make a dress.

To my surprise, I was impressed to see how much this fabrics, hobby and home store had to offer. Inside is literally packed full of material in piles that look like an organised random mess! Most of the items they sell will attract the hobbyist such as arts and crafts material, stationery and needlework. They also have a variety of hobby books, cheap fashion jewellery and accessories. There is nothing really more you could ask for and for the prices they sell at, it works out a bargain apart from the more high-end material like animal fur. Common items, for example wool and cotton are inexpensive. If you are into any of the above criteria, I would highly recommend a visit to Abakhan's as the shop is jam packed with bits and pieces.

Over two floors, Abakhan's provides reams and reams of all kinds of cloths, fabrics and textiles at very cheap wholesale prices. If you're the type who is in the business of dress making or interior design or just partake in such activities as a hobby then you can't go on much longer if you haven't found Abakhan's or one of the smaller stores along this road. Just because it is cheap doesn't mean that the quality is any less however you might have to look hard for any styles that are very stylish and modern.

I didn't expect this tobe so sprawling!!!…read more Good gosh! I have been to the Manchester number, that has the same glorious big wire bins of fabric perweight. You need time and patience, and it is a bit of a hobby shop with much of the printed cotton and the like, but the are some treats if you dig. Excellent haberdashery, coffee shop on site, decent parking, little barns of yarn and wool, it's impressive to say the least. The main reason I am giving them five stars is because of the sheer excellence of their customer service. I called around several places trying to track down a rush stock of crin/horsehair braid. I rang stoke first, who I know used to stock the stuff, and they directed me to here, I chatted, they checked, they had, and reserved the stuff for me, knowing that I was still ringing round as emergency wedding dress help, they offered rushed posting, all sorts, but with me needing it same day it resulted in a sunny Saturday drive. They recognised my voice from the phone, were kind, cheerful and helpful, absolutely lovely ladies, and meant that one of my best friends could finish her beautiful wedding dress.

This place was a delightful little treasure trove to fuel the creative soul. From wool to fabrics,…read moreand a wide variety of crafting materials, you could probably find anything you desired here amongst the array of small barn like buildings. It's nicely laid out, with plenty of spaces to explore, and also has a really lovely cafe serving great food. I enjoyed a hot pork and stuffing bap, and then took home a giant scone with cream for later. They do a wide selection of hot and cold food and of course, home baked cakes. All very reasonably priced. So, if you're a crafter, it's definitely a great place to visit, find stock, and enjoy tea and cake too!
