There are not many tables but you can usually find a free place. There is not much decoration and the place is kept in a clean-lean look. One of the things that catches the eye are the three TVs with a live camera feed of the kitchen, which I think is a cool idea. The menu is a good selection of classical swiss food and US and asian style with local ingredients. Some of the staff can be a bit slow if the place gets crowded. The chef cook often takes the time to personally come and ask how the food was. The only shame is that there are only a hand full of tables outside, which are in the shadow and next to a street.

The kids were given coloring pages and pencils (always a plus!) and their rösti with Raclette plates were sooo good. They have amazing decor and the ambiance is so nice. The indoor seating is cozy yet elegant and there are places to sit outside with warm cozy blankets. The two bars are bright and well decorated. The HUGO was the first drink I tried here. It was absolutely amazing. I'd never had something like that before!!! It was also one of the most expensive drinks I've ever had (13CHF, thank you Switzerland) but worth every penny. (Actually my boyfriend's sister told me the ingredients and I bought them at Coop and made my own... and it tasted just as good!!! :-O! ) But I have heard that Guterhof makes HUGOs especially well. Anyway, I also really like the setup at Guterhof. There are several different sitting areas and they all have their separate feel. There is a small area for high chairs and table tops, the bar, the cozy and comfy seating, the "deck" seating (also used as a dance floor) and nice dinner tables towards the back. I was also told that it used to be an old station? of some kind? The interior is old looking wood adorned with glamorous furniture and pretty lights. Guterhof's always fun. On my first day, I had a small breakfast here of croissants and juice. Another day we came by for lunch, and I had a delicious hand-tossed pizza which came out in a lopsided circle, just like pizza should. It was covered in meaty goodness, with bits of cured ham and bacon amongst the gooey cheese. I'm glad I got it to share; it was definitely too much to eat by myself! Another evening we stopped by for drinks and dessert. The bartender poured me a special liquor from his personal collection; something that was native to Schaffhausen. It was super strong (in comparison to American alcohol, of course) but good. I also ordered a crème brûlée. Since the owner knew my friends, he let me flambé the top of the dessert myself! It made for a special evening during my vacation. The ambiance of Theater Restaurant is exactly what I'd expect for a European cafe: modern yet simple, with window-side tables in the front room, a lounge bar, and a menu written on a chalkboard wall.
