I don't know where to start. My ex and I agreed to hire a GAL for our custody modification. She was…read morerecommended by my ex's attorney and I had no reason to disagree. I wish Inwould have done research before. She made recommendations regarding my child's school and then had to later admit she never talked to, researched, or even looked at the website for the school she recommended. When confronted with the facts she had to change her recommendation. There were multiple recommendations she made that she had to try to back out of when she was confronted with facts that she should have investigated. She ignored emails, showed clear bias, and attorneys on both sides both agreed she was not responding to emails from them as well. At one point she claimed to have evidence that was impossible to have and when an email questioning this was sent to her it was ignored. Additionally she NEVER provided the report she was paid $4000 by me and I assume the same by my ex to produce after her non existent investigation. I could go on and on this is only a fraction of the problems we had, some ethical issues telling me she has no basic understanding of how to work with kids. I almost never leave reviews and when I do it is usually because the service or care is great but she should NEVER be representing the best interest of any child!! I hope the courts and lawyers pay attention to the multiple complaints and issues people bring up and prevent her from representing children anymore! Fortunately my ex and I were able to come to an acceptable agreement in mediation but I was fully prepared to show all of the issues in court should it come to that.

You don't get to pick who you see, though, and I ended up seeing her colleague, Amely Cardenas. After the consult, I immediately knew this wasn't the right practice for me. Amely was very stoic in our consult. For folks who want a therapist who comes off as unempathetic, she may be fine. I shared with her some of the reasons I was seeking mental healthcare, including some recent tragedies in my family. (Deaths, being in a shooting, etc.) Amely's response to this was the reason so many adults will not go to therapy. It was so unhelpful and tragically misplaced, I couldn't help but laugh. She sent me a document of "coping mechanisms" that included recommendations such as watching cute cat videos and to eat a little chocolate. Read the room, Amely. This is the reason people are afraid of therapy - because instead of having a human conversation with a therapist, I was met with a robot who told me to eat candy and watch YouTube. I ended up finding a therapist that treated me as a human. It was much better than this experience, which I wasn't even going to take the time to review, until I noticed they billed me and my insurance for a free consultation. Nice.
