I've been a patient at Village Psychiatry for 5+ years. Dr. Peterson's bedside manner is respectful and reassuring. He's confident in his expertise, but not condescending or judgmental. As a trauma patient, Dr. Peterson has been a safe doctor to open up with. He listens well and he's excellent with titration and polypharmacology to minimize potential side effects. He avoids overprescribing by advocating for reasonable lifestyle changes in addition to medications. The current Village Psychiatry office staff is welcoming and professional. It's easy to make an appointment and they respond to concerns in a timely manner. Gracie and Angelica are especially knowledgeable, helpful, and efficient. Madison is also very supportive and sweet. Their Nurse Practitioner (Lucy) is compassionate and patient when de-escalating trauma-induced panic. After experiencing devastating abuses from unethical MH providers, Dr. Peterson is helping to repair my mental health and regain trust in others. DR. PETERSON charges $257 for a missed appointment. The office does not tell you this up front or send reminders. It would be one thing to charge $50 or something in that range as I understand this is his time. However, it is taking advantage of people who may need psychiatric care and want or need help. My appointment was made by a counselor of mine while I was under medical care. I did not have access to my calendar and did not make this appointment myself. DR. PETERSON does nothing to assist you in rescheduling and/or allow you to use this toward an actual visit, or at minimum hearing you out. The Receptionist is nice but unfortunately for her has to be the person to deal with unhappy clients. He will not talk to you himself. He does not seem to care! This is absurd in my opinion. Dr. Peterson has been a wonderful psychiatrist for 2 of my children for the past 2.5 years. He now practices out of his own office, Village Psychiatry. I have honestly never experienced any of the complaints mentioned in other reviews regarding office staff. That's not to say it didn't happen, as it could have, and maybe I was lucky. It could be the reason he branched out to run his own office. I find Dr. Peterson to be very engaging, giving time for questions and talking through solutions. I have been a patient of Dr. Peterson for quite a while. His perception, diagnosis, and medical recommendations have always been spot on. He's very professional, patient, and empathetic. I recommend him to family and friends when they have challenging mental health issues. They have been equally impressed. It was surprising to see low ratings. Everyone has their own opinion and this feedback is not meant to argue with or discount others. Regarding Benzodiazepines, I asked him to prescribe Lorazepam which had worked well with me previously. Dr. Petersone wanted to try a safer option first. He prescribed Hydroxyzine, a non-addictive medicine that is very helpful with anxiety. For me, there is no interest in considering anyone else. In fact, I have always paid 100% out of pocket because he is not included on my insurance plan. It is money well invested. read more

I rarely leave reviews but I felt it necessary in this case. Unfortunately some people tend to leave bad reviews because a doctor doesn't just give them the prescriptions they want. Many patients think they know best. Not to say they haven't had a bad experience but some of these reviews just don't sound like the DR Peterson I know. So far, I've been a patient of Dr Peterson for over 5 years and have never had an issue with staff nor Dr Peterson himself, In fact it's safe to say that he gave me my life back. With Annual enrollment coming up I was trying to find some insurance information and noticed the bad reviews, so I decided to leave a review. While I am not a patient of Dr. Peterson, one of my kids is (for ADHD) and I have gone to some of the appointments. I have found him to be very pleasant to work with and talk to, and between his treatment and the behavioral therapy our local school provides, my son is doing very well. Dr. Peterson also seems flexible and open to various options for treatment. I have been seeing Dr. Peterson for 5 or 6 years. He is absolutely one of the best doctors in Houston. He is very, very relate-able and listens to what you have to say. Luckily he is young and doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon! His staff is great. They will do just about anything for you when you say please and thank you. I have always had a great experience here! Dr Peterson is very caring and his staff has been very friendly and helpful. I have been in his care over two years for adult ADHD and have never felt better. I have been late to appointments and the staff has fit me in within a day or two at the most. Personally, if I displayed worrisome behavior at an appointment I would hope that my doctor would reach out to my emergency contacts to make them aware and help! Dr. Peterson put me on Benzodiazapines ...clonipine, valium, xanax....all three every month, I received a new prescription for all three...of course I became dependent. I was over prescribed and It was a horror getting off. When I went to him and told him I didn't want to take them anymore, he became very upset at me. I told him, "you put me on them, now get me off!'....He threw me out of his office. This was almost 10 years ago. I got off of them and I will never allow anyone to prescribe them to me again. Even when I have had surgery, I make sure that the Doctors know not to give me verset. I just want everyone to be cautious when seeing him...If you are an addict or a drug dealer ... go ahead and see him...otherwise, be warned that there is one former patient out here that he almost ruined her life. read more

I agree their customer services are the worse... I lost my wallet and hence lost my card that I put on to hold my appointment. I was letting them know as courtesy and they turn around told me without a new card number they will cancel my appointment that I have been waited for 4 months I told them I lost my whole wallet how am I able to provide them with a new number the same day by 5 pm?!!?!?!!!! I mean is impossible... So they cancelled the appointment I have just bec I decided to let them know I lost my wallet and my card... Worst front office/customer service EVER. I would not bother engaging with these doctors. A doctor is only as good as the overall experience. BEWARE. The office manager is a beast of an angry woman. No use bringing issues up with her. The male receptionist reprimanded me for missing an appointment that the scheduler (her computer was not operating properly) scheduled for the wrong day. The male receptionist stating for a med check appointment "I guess you don't need your sons meds that bad" when I refused an appointment. I was being rescheduled for my child's first day of school. Three months wait for an appointment is a normal occurrence. Life forbid you need to reschedule an appointment. You're out of luck..need for meds or not. After 5 years I can only say...It's a money machine. Typical wait time is 1 hour for a 5 minute, did you even engage with my child appointment. Basically, I am buying the privilege to have a controlled substance Rx written for me. Nothing more. I would advise you receive your mental health elsewhere. I am currently seeking other options. Bottom line. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE. read more

I saw mr. Peterson for a few years and I am sad to say that he broke confidentiality on nothing. called my family and scared them all to death saying I was a danger to myself and others.. because I decided to walk out of an appointment because I started to get a little choked up about family issues. Seemed pretty reasonable to me, I even told him I'm out of here because I was over it, no big deal. I never got a phone call saying are you okay but everyone else in my family did. I wrote a previous Yelp review about it saying he broke confidentiality and my parents. the clever scandalous types they are, told me I should take my review down because they didn't want their name tarnished. Well speaking to my mother today she just accidentally spilled the beans saying she made a deal with mr. Peterson that if she can get me to take down my previous Yelp review about him he would tell her anything she wanted to know about me. If that is not some scandalous stuff I don't know what is. Mr. Peterson, yelp reviews cannot be bought or sold. Removed or teken down, but you sir are smart enough to of found a way. A way that involves releasing confidential information (a bribe) to have it removed. Smart, but very very dumb. I'm not even mad, just blown away really. That is how you get mega sued. Also, I went to another doctor two weeks later and figured out why all the medicines you were giving me weren't working, and that's because you missed diagnosed me! Trial and error eh? Thanks for the 3 years of wrong meds, and all my confidential info out to anyone who takes down a negative yelp review.. do yourself a favor and donot go see this guy or Karen brown or anybody in that Memorial Hermann office, and apparently don't trust anybody. Dr. Peterson, is great! My problem is with the staff. They have screwed up the times and dates 3 separate times. Keep in mind that I repeatedly go over the date when I schedule it with them. Yet, my appointment comes and it's "missed" because they had the time wrong. My husband also goes there and the same thing has happened to him. They also don't give "courtesy" calls on all appointments. What I have noticed by looking at my appointments and my husbands is that they "courtesy" call you for 2 appointments in a row. Then on the third appointment you will not get a call or text message. I fully believe it's to get patients to have to pay the "$125 missed appointment fee". The rating and review is solely on my experience with the office staff. I called this office after my pediatrician recommended Dr. Peterson for an ADD eval for my child. I'm sure he's a fine doctor, but life is just too short to pay money to be treated badly by the doctor's staff. I won't go into all of the details, but I had the rudest, most unprofessional lady answer the phone. She said her name when she answered, so I thought maybe I could talk to the office manager about it, but after looking at reviews online I realized that the lady, Donna, who answered IS the office manager. I made an appointment for the first available time which was 4 months away. There were several things that were red flags in the whole process of dealing with this office and I should have not even made an appointment. They need an overhaul of how they run things and they need some help in how a professional office should be run. I decided I did not want to spend my time or money dealing with this office and cancelled the appointment. I hope the doctor's become aware of the dysfunction and make some changes.
