I started seeing Susan Hakeman about nine months ago for a mental health evaluation. From the…read morestart, our sessions felt very transactional and impersonal. I felt stuck since there weren't other psychiatrists available, and she was partnered with my therapist, which I hoped would be helpful. One session stands out: I told her I was having s**cidal thoughts and didn't know what to do. Her response was simply, "Oh no, that's not good," and then she asked if I had told my therapist. The call ended after 15 minutes, leaving me feeling confused and like my well-being didn't matter. She is nearing retirement, and it felt like she wasn't fully invested in her patients anymore. I left my sessions feeling more disheartened than when I started. If you are in the same position as me, do not waste your time or money by seeing care with Susan Hakeman, you will be incredibly disappointed.

My daughter had an appointment with this doctor, and she missed it because she has SEVERE anxiety,…read morewhich is why she needs a psychiatrist. She has anxiety about answering her phone so didn't pick up. I called and explained this apologetically and received a quite curt phone call from the doctor saying that she has a four month wait list and there are no exceptions if you miss your appointment. This to me does not sound like a practitioner that cares about her patients or is willing to work to help them get better. We have been working for years to get her into a good psychiatrist that cares and can help her manage her severe ptsd level anxiety - I'm so glad we dodged this bullet. This one sounds like she's just in it for the money. I hope one day she remembers that patient care is supposed to be the priority. I just read the other reviews left for her, and agree she is super rude.

I have done everything I could to get help, My husband and I searched and searched for a…read morepsychiatrist that could help me and find the right treatment/medication that would work. I was put on a waitlist for 4 months and when I was supposed have my appointment he called and told me that he thinks that I would be putting him and his staff at risk and that I need to cancel and reschedule, ( I had a sinus infection) I've been having lots of bad side effects from the medication I was put on, so I called to reschedule and was told that he's not taking anyone new and that I need to wait for another 3 to 4 months to get an appointment and that I was put at the top of the list. My brother in-law is a psychiatrist who has tried to get in contact with him 3 times, each time leaving a voice message. He never responded to him. I called and called no response, later on I receive a call from dr.cohen, expecting to have a pleasant and professional conversation. Nope, from the time I picked up he was very rude, aggressive and was raising his voice at me. He would not let me talk or explain my self. Told me that if I was having that much of a problem and crises that I need to just go and sign my self in. I had tried to interfere to tell him that I had not long ago. He told me to stop talking and that I'm not his problem or his responsibility. He had absolutely no respect, he acted cold and like he didn't have the slightest care. I have never ever expected a "so called psychiatrist" to talk to someone who is desperately seeking his help or a psychiatrist that was available to help. I'm baffled, he is a joke and shouldn't even be in this line of work. Please don't even try with guy, I should have listened to the reviews and not given him benefit of the doubt. I'm trying to share my message and review to as many people as possible so they know what kind of a man he is.

I saw Dr. Cohen for about a year because I needed medication for long-standing depression. I…read morethought that we got on well and I was satisfied with his care. But about a year ago I called his office (on a Wednesday), requesting an appointment because I had an increase in symptoms. His receptionist called back on Friday, offering an appointment on the following Monday. I told her that I had another medical appointment at that time. When she transferred the call to Dr. Cohen, he said that if it was an emergency I should be able to see him on Monday. (If I cancelled the other appointment, I would be liable for a cancellation fee and, in any case, an 'emergency' was already not relevant, since I had first called on Wednesday.) He said that he was 'fed up' with me. I had no idea what he was talking about, since I wasn't aware that there were any problems. As he continued to rant, I hung up. The only explanation that I can think of is that he confused me with another patient. Needless to say, I didn't see him again. This behavior was upsetting and unprofessional. I have told 2 other psychiatrists about it, and they both told me that they had heard similar stories from others.

I went to Western from 2004 to 2008. Having a long history of depression I sought out help from Dr…read more Watson. He told me that I am manic and put me on Lithium. This drug did not work for me. It made me feel crappy all the time- ill and even more depressed. I told Dr. Watson that I would like to taper off the drug but he told me that I didn't know what I was talking about because I am not a licensed psychiatrist. He also told me that he raised boarder collies and that they were hard to raise because you could not be too mean to them nor could you give them too much affection. He then told me "I suspect your parents wouldn't have been much good at raising boarder collies." When I told Dr. Watson that two of my professors were urging me to apply for graduate school( I was very excited), he scoffed and chuckled. He then drew a single line on a blank sheet of paper and said that most peoples minds operated that way. Next he scribbled madly and said "this is your brain. It goes here and there and maybe over here." When he was done he looked at me and said "Now, do you honestly believe YOU have the mind for grad school?" I told him that I felt I did and to that he laughed and said that I was setting myself up for a hard life. It felt miserable. Finally on our last session, I told him I was going off the medication with or without his assistance, he looked at me and asked "when are you Indians ever going to change?" He said his wife worked on an Indian reservation but she had to quit because the people never listened to her and kept making he same mistakes. He said that the children she helped to deliver kept coming back a few later having children of their own. "So I ask you, when will you people change?" Insecure at the time I put my head down and could only respond with "I don't know." I never went back to that guy though and I tapered off the disgusting medication on my own. The next quarter I came down with the flu so I had to go to the health center. When I checked in at the front desk the receptionist had an envelope for me, it was from Dr. Watson. I opened it up and inside was a prescription for Lithium. It was insulting. It has been almost four years since I graduated Western and 3 since I've been on any kind of medication. And although Watson told me I would never be able to live without meds, I have been doing terrific. I am happier and more successful than I've ever been on meds and I am living a good life that I'm proud of. For all my work on human rights I've even been invited to the White House to meet Joe Biden and receive his thanks. I have a good job that pays extremely well, I've had my work published in a few different magazines and there are articles about my accomplishments all across the country including the New York Times. Dr. Watson is unprofessional in my opinion and thankfully 100% wrong when it comes to me. I recommend you go to someone else.

When we could no longer afford the "counseling" I was receiving (a joke in itself unless you want to talk bout your pets for 1/2 hour an pay lots of money for it) They informed my husband (not me) that They were no longer going to "treat me. Now, I do have to say that he got the meds right quickly but his attitude sucks. Arrogant an rude just don't sit right since it is more than $200. to spend an hour with him. I would HIGHLY recommend NOT going to him and finding a compassionate, respectful Dr. which will treat you and not your bank account. I have no bad feelings about them. I just wanted you to know that you can do better for your money and feel better about your treatment. I have written a review in the past but somehow it came up missing.Imagine that.
