The family and I were heading towards the Scottsdale area to spend Easter. Figured since we hadn't had a family shoot in a while that we try and book something while we were up here. Trusty Yelp pointed me to a few finalists, and Aaron Kes was one of a few who was willing to take a job on Easter Sunday. Aaron graciosuly agreed to meet us in North Scottsdale, and arrived promptly. Being a former photog myself, I'm always interested to talk gear. No doubt Aaron has the newest and, in my opinion, the best gear. The Canon 5D III paired with the 50L prime. Perfect combo, and the results were awesome and tack sharp. Aaron was patient with the family, especially the two little girls who were not feeling photogenic on this day. His style is more the traditional style so if you like classic and timeless, Aaron is your man. The finished product was prompt and came out very nice. His eye and technical skills are excellent, which showed up in the tough backlit tree shot attached below. That said, I would have liked to see a few more different perspectives in his shots, especially with the little ones and with Aaron being a tall guy. I hired Aaron to shoot my family over the Christmas holiday as a gift to my mom! A photographer friend of mine recommended Aaron to me when I was looking (last minute, of course) for someone who would be willing to take a picture of my immediate family in the few days between Christmas and New Years 2014, as that was the only time that everyone would be all together, as a Christmas gift for my parents. As you can imagine, most photogs take their well-deserved vacations during that time. Aaron graciously made himself available to us a couple days after Christmas. We met him at the Scottsdale Civic Center park, where it was cold and crowded! Aaron stayed much longer than our allotted time with him, attempting to remember our names (10 of us!) making us feel comfortable, and ensuring that we got the group shots that we wanted. He took fantastic photos of us (each family/couple along with the entire group) and I appreciated his ability to listen to what we wanted as well as to know when to take creative control. Aaron took our engagement session when he visited San Francisco, and it was such a memorable experience for us. I think everyone has different favored photo styles and looking for the perfect photographer for yourself can sometimes be difficult. To me, finding the perfect photographer means finding someone that has excellent photography skills, understands what you are looking for and can execute it at the shooting, and does the touch up in the styles you prefer. I love Aaron's style because it's natural, warming, yet very dreamy. During our sessions, Aaron was able to quickly adapt to the new environment(he is not from Cal and he is new to Big Sur) and find the perfect spots to pose us and shoot. New locations can sometimes be overwhelming and photographer might not be able to improvise well. The day we did our engagement was so hot and the sun was too bright, yet Aaron was able to manage the lighting and had us shoot comfortably. We walked down a short trail to the cliff and got some super nice pictures there with the sunset and panorama coastline in the back. We were very happy when we saw our photos and could not appreciate more for the nice job Aaron has done. Katie was assisting our shooting that day and she was being so helpful by holding up the white board and make sure we left nothing behind. I highly recommend Aaron. Aaron is someone you can trust and is very comfortable to work with. He pays attention to details, have all the gears he feels like he would need(I lose count how many times he quickly changed lens during the shoot), and he even scouted locations before the actual shooting on that day.
