I recently dined at Aalia for business. Given our large party (8), we were asked to choose between two banquet options. I chose the 120 PP to which I added a couple of additional ala carte items. Between the degustation and ala carte dishes, I would suggest the following "dream" menu.
For appetizers, start with the (1) Eggplant mes "a" aha, spiced tomato, (2) Khorasan pita, and (3) Smoked buffalo labneh, beetroot molasses. The eggplant is fresh and plentiful, the tomato is ripe, sweet and moderately spiced, and the pita is warm, moist, and fragrant. Indeed, the pita is the best I have EVER had. Next, order the (4) Bone Marrow Chermoula Kawera Iskender. Served on a bed of warm crusted bread, the sweet and spicy tomatoes were delectable and complemented nicely with a generous portion of bone marrow. This dish is exceptionally flavorful, nicely accented with bone marrow, and no doubt a delicious vegetarian alternative without it. For the main dish, consider the (5) Lamb Neck Shawarma Tarator and (6) Heirloom Carrots. The meat is perfectly braised and tender, never gamey, perfectly spiced, and the portion size is generous. For dessert, I suggest the (7) Medjool Date, that is, the Moroccan "Queen of Fruit". Simply presented, natural, and exquisitely sweet, this fruit well deserves its moniker.
The wine list is broad, with excellent selections from both Australia and Europe. There is something to meet all ranges of price and palate. Moreover, if you need assistance, the Sommelier (from Bordeaux) is as knowledgeable as she is charming.
I give Aalia my highest recommendation. read more
