Clutching leech-like to the corner of a building, the interior is little more than a corridor dominated by the slick, brass-tapped bar. Outside, there's a barrier separating the patrons from meandering shoppers, like zoo animals. Standing at a table with a cider on a sunny day becomes a bizarre but engrossing experience as people straining with carrier bags and prams shuffle past. You feel like you've simply stopped dead in a busy thoroughfare and in some ways you have. This is the kind of place you could walk into, get a drink and walk out of without breaking stride. Good for one though, provided you don't crack your scalp on the low toilet door. That's never an attractive thing to do in front of shoppers.

However this is a very friendly place despite what the pictures might suggest - the ridiculous number of England flags for the world cup make it look like a BNP social club but they are not a permananet feature, although having said that these things usually get left up until they have turned yellow and start to frey. Noty a great selection of beers, the theme is cheap and plentiful as the old fellas here will usually start at midday and go on drinking for ages which creates that strange, funny but baffling atmosphere you get with drunken old people. Friendly but you rarely know what the joke is - it's generally the young one.

The bedrooms are awfully dated which may appeal to more senior consumers but not my cup of tea. It does have something going for it though and that is its location as it's close to all major attractions. This allows one to explore all that Liverpool has to offer, from its merry merry nightlife to the culture of the city including the peace and tranquility of their two, amazing Cathedrals. There are so many hospitality options in Liverpool this one just doesn't feature on the radar an if compared to other hotels and apart hotels wouldn't get a look in.

Beautifully kept, clean and well thought out. Rooms very well supplied with all that you might need. The shower room although small was clean and functioned well. Breakfast ample and more than adequate in presentation. Management and staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Would guess not too good for disabled but we did not ask for this so cannot really judge. We had quite a few stairs to negotiate. It is a little away from the city centre but taxis are relatively cheap and it was worth getting them to travel in and back. If we went back to Liverpool we would certainly want to make sure we could get into the Throstles Nest again.

We chose the Gwynfryn Guest House because…read moreof its central location inside the city walls, good reviews, an amazing chapel breakfast area, and overall affordability.... I'm happy to say we had no regrets! A couple things I'd highlight: -We met one of the owners (Colin, I believe) and he was super welcoming and suggested a great local restaurant around the corner called Watsons Bistro. -The rooms are very tasteful and the beds are comfortable. -The breakfast was tasty and the service was great. -The chapel is really very beautiful/special/fantastic/all the adjectives. -We parked right outside the walls for a cheap price. It was only a few minutes walk. No big deal. Conwy and Snowdonia were our favorite places to visit on our Wales trip, and the Gwynfryn Guest House definitely contributed to that! We would happily go back.

As of last Sunday 5/20/2017~ish, the new kitchen and breakfast room has been relocated to the old church chapel - it's awesome! So, the room I stayed in was in the "vestry" and was superb! All brand new, clean and cozy - the room was perfect! The ensuite bathroom was very nice (only needed some hand soap.) During my recent trip, I stayed twice, but a week apart...kinda coming and going. Both visits were stellar. Colin was extremely cool and accommodating (only met Monica briefly - she was quite friendly). I'm not sure how soon I'll be back, but I will only stay at Gwynfryn during my next visit to Conwy - it was PERFECT! 5 stars...so SOLID!

I've always had a soft spot for Apart-hotels. They just have an edge on traditional hotel settings,…read moreoffering flexibility and informality to the hospitality options. This is five star luxury folks and it makes me go all warm inside just thinking about it. The apartments are contemporary, they are luxurious and they are smack bang wallop in the heart of the City Centre. Booya!!! There are only 12 apartments but what beauties they are. There are 4 stunning duplex apartments sleeping up to 15 yes 15 people!!!!!!! All apartments can be booked daily, weekly and monthly with a package to suit your needs. Each apartment is professionally equipped to give you a homely feel of a first class city centre apartment. So what's the game plan then? Well being capitaan of my own ship if I was to take my boys, 15 of them on a team building weekend of debauchery in the pool on a bank holiday weekend. It would set me back £594 if you book through facebook!!! That is a simple £4o each!! For that you get spacious living room with 50' plasma and PS3, roof top terrace with decking, fully fitted kitchen and all other luxuries you'd expect from an apartment. The superior apartment really is something to gawk over though. It sleeps upto 6 people and has a jacuzzi in the master bedroom!!!!!! If scarface was filmed today Tony Montana wouldn't look out of place here!! There is a HD Projector screen which comes out from the walls, if you fancy a movie night in. You HAVE to see this apartment for yourself to believe it, Fingerprint Access to get into the flat, and Bose Surround Sound System around the apartment, Mood lighting in the guest room and also a PS3 if you want a quiet night in to watch a movie, or play a few games. This one is perfect for a midweek break with a few mates. At only £150 a night between upto 6 people that comes up a ridiculously cheap price even if you stay two nights!!! Weekend stays will cost a tad more at £300 a night with a minimum two night stay. Thats still only £50 per person which ain't bad is it for 5* luxury!!?? Oh how I love apart hotels, especially ones that are 3,4 to the 5 to the stars!!! One of the best overnight staying options in the Pool. Word of advice to the not so organized ones amongst you, if you don't book in advance, you ain't got a chance!!!!

This is not a hotel, but a company of serviced apartments. I totally had the wrong address and only realized shortly before we got on the train to Liverpool what we needed to do and where we needed to go. That said, we ended up with a great apartment in a great location. PROs: + Amazing staff. Seriously, I'll get to that in a minute, but the people who run this are unbelievable. + Huge apartment. Way more room than we needed, but it was nice. + Full kitchen, washer, etc. Everything that would be in someone's apartment. + Great location for site-seeing in Liverpool. + Short walk to/from Lime Street Station. + Free WiFi. I had to futz with it a little to get it to connect, but worked great once I did. + Secure building. + Hair dryer, plenty of linens, etc. CONs: - Smelled like....curried tomato soup ?? the whole time. - The bathroom fixtures were so super modern that they were difficult to use. The shower on/off/temp was like a Rubix Cube. - The bed downstairs was horrible. Our feet were hanging off the end and I could feel the perfect outline of the coils in my back. Luckily the bed upstairs was better. - Super high toilets. Not really a con, I guess, but a weird feature. I'm 5'8" and my feet didn't touch the ground while sitting on the potty. This must be what toddlers feel like. - Because it's a serviced apartment and not a standard hotel, check-in/check-out/baggage hold all needs to be pre-coordinated, so it's not quite as convenient. Don't get me wrong, the staff is fantastic about it, but it's not just a matter of walking down to the lobby. A word about the staff. We arranged for a super-late check-in (11:45pm due to us taking a late train from London). My boyfriend discovered that he had left his wallet in the cab shortly after it dropped us off. When the Signature Living girls showed up (Laura, and I feel horrible but I totally forget the other girl's name), they sprung into action. One immediately started calling cab companies and was on the phone with them while I did the check-in paperwork. They both ended up walking down to the train station and all over town with my bf well past 1am. A taxi driver ended up driving them all over looking for our original driver, too. No luck. In the morning, Matt from the office knock on our door to tell us he'd been in contact with our taxi driver and had arranged for her to drop off his wallet in half an hour. He got his wallet back, cash, cards, and all. The staff really went above and beyond. This was my first time in a services apartment instead of a hotel. It was definitely different, but we had a great experience.
