I went looking for a therapeutic massage about a week ago after I had a headache I couldn't shake. After reading the other reviews I decided to call to see if I could get in. She was able to make me an appointment for only a couple hours later. I would like to point out that it's in a regular neighborhood not like a crap strip mall somewhere. Do not be deterred. She has a space in her backyard that is beautiful, warm and cozy and that's where the massages happen. We talked for a while about what was happening with me, what I tried, what I was hoping to get out of the massage. The massage was focused around my neck/head/shoulders and she told me a bit about what causes long lasting headaches, some short term solutions and some longer term. My headache was gone when I left. When she finished I was ready to book again but she told me I should wait and see how I felt. The next two days I was sore but it was a good-sore. I've never had a non-relaxation massage and I was blown away. I haven't had a headache at all in a week which is a new feeling for me. So happy to have found Aaby's massage. I was in desperate, I can't procrastinate any longer need for a massage to get some tension out of my shoulders. Candy made sure to tailor the massage exactly to what I wanted and needed. I can actually see my shoulders have dropped like four freaking inches. They were bad. Like I felt like I couldn't relax them they were so hard. My neck even does a complete head roll. That might sound weird to some people, but I'd held so much stress in my shoulders I couldn't even roll my neck around(and I do yoga!) Wow! It was a Saturday afternoon. I'd had a rough day and needed some serious TLC. I called around a dozen different massage studios with good ratings on yelp, leaving messages on the off chance someone could squeeze me in the same day. I was happy to hear back from Candi within an hour, and schedule a massage for 8pm. (Who gives last minute massages at 8pm on a Saturday?! Candi apparently, thank god.) To my delight I also found out she was in my neighborhood, only five minutes away. I arrived and Candi came to greet me. She showed me her lovely sanctuary of a yard with landscaping, pond, waterfall and koi. Then she brought me into her... I don't know what you'd call it. Massage hut? Cozy backyard space with string lights, tapestries and a fireplace. Awesome. Straight away she told me about how she works. I like that. She gets to the heart of the matter. Then she asked what I wanted to focus on and worked with me collaboratively to form a plan. She was very communicative throughout, about what we were focusing on, what my body was telling her, how much time we had left, etc., and it was clear she knows exactly what she's doing and is able to communicate it intelligently. The work itself. My god. She's somatically psychic. Her fingers instantly gravitated toward the places in my body that have felt like they're screaming out for help for months if not years. She applied a good amount of pressure and worked with me to know how much was too much but I instantly trusted her and so I just breathed into it, knowing that all the pain I was feeling was the pain that was already there and needing to be released. We got some serious work done tonight! My body feels altered as things are realigning. It's going to take several more sessions to get some chronically stuck, hurting places to open up, so I feel pretty weird right now. But I am in good hands and feel I've finally found a healer I can trust to fix my body. I am saying all of this as an extremely picky person. I don't trust many people. After the super traumatic delivery of my son my body suffered nerve damage and my hips were way out of alignment. My doctor sent me to physical therapy which made my body hurt even more. I set up my first massage session with Candie yesterday. Prior to my massage we talked about previous injuries and trouble areas I have been dealing with and the type of massage I was interested in, a strong deep tissue massage. All of my expectations were met above and beyond. Candie kept the pressure just above my pain threshold. She worked in some new techniques and introduced me to some new stretches and at home massaging techniques for my "homework". She pointed out that my feet need a lot of work and told me where to go in town for a great foot massage. Candie is amazing. I've had some good massages before but hers are seriously healing. I write full time, and even though I have an ergonomic keyboard set at the correct height and a good chair and my screen at eye level, I still damage my body through repetitive stress. Since I've started seeing her I feel my posture has shifted to a more supported, natural state, mostly from work she's done on an old neck and shoulder injury (decades old) that I hadn't realized I'd been splinting. She's also given me some excellent advice so that I can work longer without as much repetitive use pain. I love her setup. It's very relaxing. I don't know if she works outdoors year-round but I loved being in her beautiful garden, with the music, and the tent, and her.
