I've been a AAA roadside assistance member for over 10 years, and last night left me completely disappointed.
My wife locked the keys in our car at our son's baseball game outside Modesto. I requested roadside assistance and was given a 60-minute estimated arrival. As the timer ran down, I waited in the parking lot so I wouldn't miss the driver. The timer hit zero, and 15 minutes later, no one had arrived or provided an update.
I called AAA. The representative was rude, put me on hold, then said it would be at least another hour. Frustrated, I was transferred to a supervisor, who said that because of my frustration and the inaccurate estimate, they were canceling my assistance and blocking me from requesting it again that night. I tried submitting another request, but it was canceled repeatedly--about six times.
My family was stranded without help from the service I'd paid for. I rarely need AAA; my last call was for a jump-start over three years ago. After more than a decade as a member, I couldn't believe they handled a lockout this way.
After reading AAA's reviews, I realized this is common with their roadside assistance. Helping customers clearly isn't a priority. Owners keep replying to reviews, asking people to email them. I won't. I reviewed my experience here, so stop sending automated replies that only reinforce the impression that you don't care.
I spent this morning on the phone with AAA and received a full refund for the roadside assistance they failed to provide. I won't renew or recommend AAA. Thanks to the guy I found through Facebook who showed up and unlocked our car for $40. read more
