I have had AAA for 9 years. In those 9 years I've used the service maybe one time previously. I drive a Jeep Wrangler with slightly larger than stock tires. The company refused to cover the cost of a tow because they said that my larger than stock tires count as a "Modified Vehicle". I spoke to numerous customer service reps at the corporate office and none would offer any assistance aside from saying "It's a modified vehicle. We can't cover it". I asked if snow tires count as modified. They said yes. Beware. I have been paying them every year for 9 years for no reason whatsoever and will never use their service again. I have been a AAA member for 57 years. Membership in this organization doesn't "cost" you, it "pays" you. Over the years, I have often used their emergency services for unlocking the car with keys locked in them, running out of gas, and having the car towed when it broke down, and for changing a flat tire . If you do any travelling, the maps and tour directories you get from them are invaluable. You get excellent discounts on hotel accommodations and car rentals which can eventually total the cost of your membership. Your membership is honored in Canada as well. I was travelling home from the Montreal jazz festival one time and I had a blow out. I had no sooner parked my car when a truck pulled out behind me. I saw that it was a CAA truck and the driver came out and asked me if I was a member of AAA. I told him I was, and he then asked me if I would prefer changing my own tire, or if I wanted him to change it for me. Of course, I allowed him to do it; no cost. He recommended a tire shop in the town ahead. AAA has always done well by us and that includes the Champaign office. read more

So, I get this email from my *former* car insurance agent asking for referrals - "My business success depends on asking my clients for referrals." Notice that emphasized "former" there? Consider this anti-referral fair warning to NOT get your car insurance through Ed Olsen at the AAA office in Champaign. When I first got insurance with them, it was at a competitive rate, and I went with it because of the tow service, etc. They proceeded to hike my rate every term following that, which I somewhat expected by way of a few speeding tickets that I picked up along the way... but this last period, with no additional tickets? They tried to hike my rate to over $400 a month. For a policy with one VERY mundane sedan. His explanation when I stopped in to cancel? "Oh... we must have calculated this wrong..." and tried to back-pedal by reducing the quote. Sorry, buddy - you've lost my trust and my business already. This wasn't the first head-scratcher moment from them, either - when they were still in my good graces, my roommate went down there to get a quote from them, and they wouldn't give him his own card or policy - they wanted to stick him in under my name. AAA in champagne is a scam !!! I paid for the premier membership but it is completely useless. They claim they help with roadside assistance but the truth of the matter is that's not true at all. I've been trying to get my vehicle towed not for 5 days already and everyday they keep telling me no one is available to help me. My vehicle is nearby this location but 2 1/2 hours away from me. On New Year's Eve, I explained how far I was from my vehicle and the people at this location told me to make that far drive and that someone would be able to help me once I'm by my vehicle but when I arrived no one was able to help me at the moment.so I waited hours and drove almost 3 hours just to be told I can't be helped. Keep in mind the people here told me to drive that much and that it was certain I would be helped. So I waisted over 6 of my time and money on New Year's Eve. After that I kept everyday and still no help. Once they finally told me I could be helped they said I had to wait till the next day to just call back in the morning so I did only to find out the number was disconnected. But if you call they're number to sign up for a membership, they answer within seconds. Anyone see what's the problem right ? Please I'm trying to help people not waiste there time and money here like I did. I've bee lied to and scammed by the AAA people at this location. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY ITS A SCAM. read more
