An absolutely frustrating experience! I should've gone with my gut feeling and called someone else after Mike, the owner, didn't call me back or reply to my texts regarding the meeting for a quote on the job, and had to push for a response. When we met with Mike he was professional and straightforward, but really scatterbrained, a trait that continued through the end of the project. Although I contacted him first, once he had my husband's contact info he told me that he does not reach out to communicate with married women because he doesn't want to deal with husbands questioning why he's contacting their wives and not them. That never settled well with me and still doesn't.
When they started the job Mike was scatterbrained about which colors went where even though he was given a sheet with the colors and the corresponding rooms. The guy he had doing our master suite showed up late, had an attitude, and got very little done. Then, Mike discovered that his guy had lied to him about rolling out a bedroom wall again he told me he called the guy and told him that I didn't want him back in my house and that he didn't need to come back. I never said that. When he told me he could get other painters to come in to replace the other guy I said I was fine with that. Mike called me later to say that the guy called me "ever name under the sun" and that he'd never work for him again.
I went out of my way twice to pick up extra paint so that Mike wouldn't have to leave another job nor would his guys need to leave the house to pick it up. I offered our kitchen for them to refrigerate or microwave their lunches, and our bathroom for them to use. Mike told me that they don't use the client's bathrooms. I insisted that it was ok since I knew they didn't have an alternative. Now I wish I hadn't because when I went to that bathroom after they were finished the job they had urinated all over the seat and back of the toilet. It was disgusting!
After they left on the last day I found picture holes that they were asked to fill and didn't, splattered paint and paint can rings all over my countertops. They also used my kitchen sink to dump paint down it - I pulled a glob of paint out of the drain. Lastly, I found that the master bath was very streaky as the guy he told me had been fired only put on one coat and there were roller marks all over the wall. I contacted Mike about coming back to roll it out with another coat and it took him a month to come back after not showing up when he said he would and never called to reschedule. I had to reach out again to ask when he was coming. Once we confirmed a day, he told me that I should text him that day to remind him. Another example of his unreliability. Even after he came back, the master toilet room still has the same streaks and missed areas that were there before he came back. How am I to think anything other than that he didn't roll it out as asked? On top of it all, when he left the house he told me he rehired the guy who called me "every name under the sun" but that he doesn't have him painting anymore, just power washing. So let me get this straight: it doesn't matter that the guy said about awful things about me (mind you, my only communication with him was "hi" and "do you need me to get you another gallon?" So I'm not sure how I was a "B" or "had it out for him."), all that matters is that he gets moved to a different type of work where he can't screw up painting.
Do yourself a favor and call a different painter, I know I will be for our next project. read more
