INITIAL DISCUSSIONS (FEB 22, 2024) We asked Keith if…read moreremoving the flooring would speed up the project but eventually kept tile. HandyWorks would demo and install the new tile. We also discussed painting cabinets, eyeing a mid-March start. PRICING & COMMUNICATION (FEB 26-27) We received only a "line item overview," no per-task costs. Repeated requests for a true breakdown were never fulfilled. Sue, the project manager, offered no real help with fixture selection (e.g., she told us to "use the filters" on a website we'd already tried). TIMELINE DISCONNECT (FEB 28) Keith disclosed late that the countertop needed a 10-business-day lead time and that subsequent tasks would push the project to around three weeks--far beyond our hoped-for one-week timeframe. CONTRACT & SCOPE OMISSIONS (MAR 12-21) After I canceled a meeting, Keith declined to email the contract, insisting on another in-person appointment. We finally reviewed it on March 15 but discovered the trashcan insert was omitted. Keith apologized yet still never provided a detailed cost breakdown. TILE PROBLEMS (SPRING 2024-MAY 2025) Several tiles were laid out improperly, and two had extra-wide grout lines. Keith's crew returned weeks later, but he sent a finish carpenter, not a tiler, leaving flaws. They redid those tiles again in May 2025 without Keith supervising. The tiler also used floor leveler to raise part of our century-old floor several inches--without our consent--then tried to charge extra and later failed to remove it from the invoice promptly. COUNTERTOP & BACKSPLASH ISSUES (FEB-MAY 2025) Small items rolled off the countertop's edge. By April, the section over the dishwasher sagged, leaving a gap. Keith finally added a bracket in May, admitting it should have been done initially. For the backsplash, his crew broke the grey-white marble pattern without asking, substituting grey for white near the edge. Keith insisted the white pieces were "too small" to cut, which felt untrue, and he never consulted us. OTHER UNPROFESSIONAL INCIDENTS Keith brought up politics (specifically, Trump) during contract signing, which felt inappropriate. One day, his workers cut quartz with our windows open, blanketing our downstairs in dust, for which he offered $200. A worker also smoked in our backyard after we explicitly said no. FINAL INVOICE & REFUND DISPUTE (SEPT 2024-MAR 2025) Keith apologized for including the unapproved floor-leveler charge on our final bill. We requested about a 10% refund due to recurring problems and incomplete fixes. He verbally agreed in March 2025 but later avoided the subject. We still haven't received any compensation. BBB complaint pending.

After 4 weeks of not hearing back from him and reaching out, I got an email from the office staff saying my remodeling was not a good fit for the company. No reason just not a good fit. Mark slowly walked us through the whole process- what types of wood we could choose, coming to our house to do an initial look (free), and then setting up delivery AND installation of wood. The entire process was hands-free for my family. His installers were QUICK (two days!), friendly, and most importantly CLEAN (they left almost no sign they were there!). All the old stuff hauled away, AND they were able to move the big pieces of furniture around while installing! We had one other quote before going to South Broad, and I can say their price was extremely competitive (especially considering they are willing to move furniture).

The words that come to mind when I think of South Broad Paint & Home Center are...just don't. We…read morebegan our renovation in late April and were told it would take between 3 and 4 weeks. Now at the end of Week 9, we are finally able to begin using the kitchen. Our renovation consisted of a new floor, painting of the cabinets and walls, a new countertop and sink, dishwasher instillation, and instillation for 4 new (pre-finished) cabinets. In total, there were approximately 10 days over those 9 weeks when work was actually being done. Yes, you read that correctly. 9 Weeks, 10 days of work...that's 53 days of absolutely nothing! The rest of the time was spent tracking down the so called 'contractor' to find out who was coming to do what and when. After making an $8k payment, we were told the work would begin the following Monday. When Monday came and went without even so much as a phone call, we called to see what the issue was. We were told we were supposed to call when the wallpaper was taken down (we agreed up front to take it down on our end). If this were the only communication issue throughout the project, I would said say it was just a misunderstanding however, this was just the tip of the iceberg! The sub-contractor finally came, and they took up the old tile and laid the new. After a couple of days without a call or email, we had to reach out to the contractor again on next steps. This was the common theme throughout the entire renovation. We had to follow up each and every time with the contractor to get anything done. We also had to advise each of the sub-contractors on what they had to do as they arrived, they were not briefed before they got there. When the carpenter came to install the dishwasher (new to the space), he told us that when the countertops were put on, we'd never be able to get the dishwasher out. The reason for this being that the contractor never told the tile sub-contractor to take out the existing subfloor. Instead, they laid a new one over it raising the floor more than an inch! We were told that we'd have to raise the height of the cabinet to avoid having to take the countertop off down the line if the dishwasher needed a repair. This was something that could have been completely avoided had the contractor advised his team correctly. The contractor then tried to charge us approximately $400 for this work. Nearing the end of the project, it was evident that the ceiling had not been painted. We called, and the contractor said he'd call the painter to 'have him put another coat on'. When the painter arrived, he asked what was needed so we explained (as usual). He told us that the contractor never told him to paint the ceiling!' Every step of the way was nothing but a headache and it was obvious that we were 'small potatoes' for this contractor. The lack of communication and continuing empty promises made this process an absolutely nightmare. I would recommend this company only if you like the idea of being your own foreman!

The job included staining some raw woodwork, stripping some wallpaper, and painting the walls and ceilings. Then we had them power wash and paint our aluminum siding. The most amazing thing was how well they matched the wood staining to the existing woodwork and cabinets in three different colors. Their workmanship was excellent, and the owner, Vince, kept on top of the whole process. We were very pleased.

Finding tradesmen is on my list of things I don't want to do. I don't know how to compare bids or…read morejudge the quality of the work, sometimes even after it's done. We found Fresh Home Painting by following a chain of trust. We started with a roofer we trusted, who recommended a general contractor, who in turn called in a painter he trusted. This was no small job. We needed new windows stained (different colors in different rooms to match exiting cabinets and woodwork), wallpaper removed, walls and ceilings painted, woodwork refreshed, our roof cleaned, and the outside of the house (aluminum siding) painted. Vince Bayeh came out with the GC, and we all worked together to decide exactly what needed to be done and how. We had already told the GC that quality was more important than speed or cost, and since we'd followed a chain of trusted professionals (who were transparent about their finders and referral fees) we threw ourselves on their mercy. Vince gave us a contract, not an estimate. It was a firm price for a detailed list of work to be done. We paid part when we signed the contract, part when work started, and the rest upon completion. We don't regret that one bit. Vince himself is a perfectionist, and so is his crew (up to five people, at some points). Vince and the GC spotted things on their final walkthrough that we would not have noticed for months, if ever, and they were fixed immediately. Vince assured us that if we had questions, we should call him and he would take care of it. We did have one issue, and not only did he come out the next day, but he took care of it himself in the same visit. I can't imagine a better experience.

We had wanted to do some upgrading of our own and contacted FHF to do our entire first floor: parlor, dining room, half bath, and large open kitchen family room area. We are talking about a 1000 square feet over all. The only area that had hardwood flooring originally was the foyer which we had them refinish. The floors look great. The crews were all completely professional and the project manager, Juliano, wants to make sure you are satisfied with the job. They ask for half of the cost up front with the remainder due when the job is complete and you are satisfied. You do have to live with a lot of inconvenience during the process. Primarily dust, a lot of dust, noise, and odor from the sealing. You need to move your smaller items out but their crew will remove your larger furniture pieces. Good time to have at least a two car garage. And they do put you large pieces back when finished. Overall this was well worth the money, time, and inconvenience.
