I was moving from AZ to Utah and totalled my car around Needles, CA. The HWY patrol officer called "A Toe Truck company" and had my car towed. The driver was really nice. He even gave me a ride to the hospital to get checked out because it was a pretty bad wreck. I hit the retainer wall at around 70 mph after falling asleep at the wheel. Because I was not a local I had no idea what to do and knew no one in that area. I ended up hitchhiking and walking all the way to Laughlin, NV. I got a room there so I could wait for my friend's parents to could come from Las Vegas to pick me up and give me a ride to the St. Goerge shuttle. I made the first shuttle from Vegas to St. George, but just barely missed the last bus going to salt lake by about 15 min. I was stranded again and had to wait for my roommate to come pick me up and drive me the rest of the way home. Because I had originally reserved a rental car at the airport across the river from Laughlin and was dropped off at the hospital by the toe truck driver I was unable to take any of the stuff from my car with me. When I arrived at the rental car i was told they didnt have a car for me even though i had a reservation with a confirmation number. They didnt care. I had hitchhiked to get the car after spending the day in the hospital and was planning on going back and getting all my stuff from my car and driving the rest of the trip. When I couldn't get the car I got a motel in laughing and waited for my friends to come from vegas. I was going to have to take the shuttle the rest of the way. Because I was pushing my luck to make it to shuttle on time I could not get my stuff. I ended up making the first shuttle to St. George but missed the transfer to Salt Lake by about 15 min. I was
Now almost 3 days in to the trip that usually takes about 9 hours. My feet were covered in blisters and I was tired, hungry and craving a shower. My friend picked me up after being stranded in st. George and I was relieved to get home. Although, all I had was literally the clothes on my back. I felt proud that I was resourceful enough to travel through three states by foot. make it back. I tried, oh did I try. My first attempt to drive back down ended up with the car I was in actually catching on fire on the freeway. So, the few things I had with me were lost in the fire. I stayed in contact with "A Toe Truck" to let them know every time something happened or when I was going to attempt to make the 7.5 hour drive. The second time I ended up getting admitted in to the hospital with MRSA and Sepsis and nearly died. I had emergency surgery and was in the hospital for weeks. Again I called "A Toe Truck" and let them know why I hadn't made it back. I tried to have a friend pick it up and they emailed me some documents I would need to do that, but my friend cancelled her trip. When I was finally actually ready to go I called them and was told they threw my stuff away after getting a mechanic's lien. I would bet my life (cause I have nothing else left to bet) that they did not throw my stuff away. Like I said I was moving so every thing that was important to me was in that car. My new Laptop, Google home, Google cast, all medications that I take daily, ALL my clothes, shoes, jewelry and hygiene, camcorder, tents, hammocks are just a few of the things in my car. My entire life was in that car. The most devastating thing is the loss of the irreplaceable things that were gifts from friends and family esp my children. My memories. The person that I spoke to that day just started working there when she filed for the lien just days after another employee assured me everything was safe and they were saving it for me. In return, I told them I would bring the title with me and sign it over to them. I am felling a huge loss and void right now. I have gone through so much since wrecking that car and now to lose all my belongings because they never contacted me once. Every conversation was initiated by me. I called or emailed every time my plans changed. They did not have the respect to notify me things had changed and they could no longer store it for me. My car wasn't even on their property, it was at the state impound due to the HWY patrol calling for the tow so why was it so imperative they empty my car. I begged the woman to please try to help me get my stuff back, but I had to hang up on her due to my crying kept insisting everything had been thrown away like my entire life was trash. I feel like they went through my car and dispersed my life how they saw fit. Why didnt they try to get ahold of me after they had ASSURED ME they were keeping my stuff safe. I would have gotten my stuff immediately. I was misled to feel secure so they could rob me. I do not believe they threw it all away, regardless they told me it's all gone. NOT A TRUSTWORTHY company to steal all my belongings from me whatever they did with it. I lost hope after this. She was apathetic and rude.I feel violated and sad. read more
