In Castlegar, BC -- Called and got Mike's wife (lynn) and asked for service at my home in…read moreCastlegar. I was provided with Mike's cellular to contact and speak to him. I did that and Mike was pleasant and I explained the 4 items I needed him to handle for me when he did the house call we booked for the following week. When Mike came, I was at work and it was previously arranged that I would not be home and my son who is 21 would show Mike what needed doing. Mike did only one of the repairs that may have taken him all of 20 minutes and did not even look at the other work he was called there for. I asked to have my furnace serviced and the biggest reason for the visit to my home was to repair a leaking water tank which was explained in great detail to Mike. When Mike came to the house, he repaired a black PVC pipe connection and nothing else. I then had to contact him days later to ask what I owed him for his services, I was not yet aware he hadn't repaired the items I requested. Mike's wife was incredibly rude to me on the phone and I said, just have Mike call me when he wants to get paid. Mike called right back and asked if I had a problem - I said, not at all I just want to pay you and I don't want to speak to a rude person while I try to get information on where my bill is. Mike said he had emailed the wrong email and then sent me the bill - I promptly paid it. Few days later, I had a home appraisal done and the appraiser alerted me to the pool of water at the water tank and it was then I realized that Mike had not repaired the tank NOR had he serviced my furnace as was my request. Mike did a house call charging me $100 and did a very quick and easy job and left the rest without even communication that to me at all. Mike and I emailed back and forth for him to come look at the water at water tank and he did come by my home when I was not here an left his business card. I called today and his wife answered the phone again - she told me she was not going to give me his cell phone number to contact Mike and she was abrasive and extremely rude and unhelpful to me again on the phone once more. I tried to ask why she was being so rude to me and she hung up in my face. I called back and a man answered and I politely said I was looking to leave a message for Mike or speak to him - this man said this to me verbatim "what you think he just sits around the fucking house all day doing nothing"?? I asked why he was speaking to me in such a way and he too hung up. Needless to say, despite Mike being a nice person, he was unprofessional, didn't do the job he was called to do and did a house call for a 15 minutes job to get his $100 house call fee. His wife and whoever else answered his phone are nasty people and rude as can be - I will NEVER use this company again. I have been a homeowner in this community and this is the second tradesman who I have found to be very unhelpful and even dishonest and very rude. BEWARE - thanks.

The longer I live in Rossland, the more I realize just how hit and miss contractors here are. Trail…read moreRoofing was a HIT!!! My roof required a fairly urgent but partial repair. Trail Roofing's competitors gave me the runaround. Two outfits told me my job was too small and they were only taking on either new construction or complete roof replacements. The third guy promised to start work "at the end of next week" for two months straight. When I called Trail Roofing and explained my situation, their head guy (Eric) came out to assess the damage and provide a quote the next day. The day after that, a two-man crew (who couldn't have been more professional and were very careful to clean up every scrap) arrived to commence the work. They did what they needed to do to prevent any additional damage, and actually gave me some very good news with respect to the damage that had already been done inside my gables. As the metal panels I needed were on back order, I had to wait a couple weeks for the work to be completed. But two days after the materials arrived, the guys were back to finish up. The roof looks fantastic, and my final bill was actually a couple thousand LESS than I expected.

I cannot say enough good things about A&A painting!…read more In a nutshell, I first hired a crummy painter to paint the exterior of my Rossland house and I got ripped off. By the time the crummy guy had billed me for about 85% of his total estimate (which comprised 35 hours of work), he'd completed only about a 20% of the project. (You do the math...) I then called Rick at A&A and explained my situation. He came to have a look and provide a new estimate. Unfortunately, the house still needed to be pressure washed because the previous outfit had not adequately addressed the old paint, and much of the work was so shoddy it would require an extra coat. By that point, I'd blown a huge chunk of my painting budget on the crummy painter and could no longer afford to do everything I'd initially wanted to do. Rick and I walked around the exterior of the house together and he took the time to help me come up with a plan to paint the house in a way that would still look great but would ultimately save me some of the money I'd wasted on the crummy painter. The team that came to paint (John and his son) were efficient, polite, professional, and amazingly good at what they did. They had the whole place pressure washed, scraped, and painted (including trim and windows) within a couple days. They even fixed some of the sloppiness (poor cutting in) left by the crummy painter. I plan to paint the exterior of my detached garage next year and you can bet I'll be calling A&A and nobody else.
