I was suddenly diagnosed with moderate to severe arthritis in my neck, and my doctor recommended physical therapy. He suggested a few places, but I did my research and felt that A Step Ahead Physical Therapy was the place for me. Why? Because for one, their motto is Move well, Move often, Be Well... which I believe is the key to a successful third stage of life. Secondly, according to their website, the therapist gives you their complete attention throughout each appointment. While they may have student observers, they do not use students to conduct PT. I found all these things to be true - it's not just a line on a website. Each and every time, I was greeted warmly by the front desk staff. The facilities were always immaculate and I noticed that as soon as someone used a room, a massage table or a piece of equipment, someone came along behind them to wipe everything down. The therapists are top-notch, experienced, and many with doctoral degrees in PT. I initially began working with Jim Lewis, but when the timing of my schedule became more complicated, I transitioned to David Smelser. Each of the therapists was very good, and they collaborated with each other about my treatment. The treatments focused on exercised that would help my neck, and much of the time of each visit was focused on making sure I was doing each exercise properly. The exercises are such that they can be done at home, and the therapists encouraged me to do so. They always answered my questions clearly and completely. It took about 6 weeks for me to feel back to normal and able to resume my previous activities, but I feel great. I realize that these exercises are key to my good health, so I continue to do them daily (it only takes 10 or 15 minutes). I had been seeing Chiropractors for several years for hip pain. Very little improvement and their response was to come more often. I have lived in the Atlanta area for over 30 years and have been a patient of a few different Physical Therapy practices and I have to say unequivocally that A Step Ahead is outstanding in their field. From the moment you walk in the door the office staff is warm, friendly and engaging and are concerned about your condition. Your therapist spends about 55 minutes with you each time you visit and provides you with their undivided attention. The other therapists are very friendly and warm as well. I have worked with David Smelser, PT, DPT for several months now and I really appreciated his warmth, understanding of my problem(s) I was experiencing and always providing me with options when I was unable to perform an exercise to obtain the same result. For someone who is 60+ and suffers a bad broken ankle, recovery is not the easiest thing. I was never so lucky as to start my physical therapy with Marian. This is the third physical therapy place I have attended over the last 7 years. And this has been my best and most successful experience with physical therapy. Severe burning foot pain was limiting my exercise and comfort. I came to A Step Ahead with some hope and a lot of anxiety. I was greeted with a bright and genuine smile and I sensed that I was in the right place. David took me through a series of exercises and evaluated my condition. Then he suggested exercises that I could do at home. After 3 visits, the pain is almost gone. David is professional, polite and very knowledgeable. He was very patient with me, explaining the source of the pain and describing how the "at home" exercises would help my condition.
