A local institution…read more P.I.C. has conscientiously built up the quality of the service it provides families in the area, encouraging the development of professional child care staff and offering a working model to many other child care providers. Parent participation in the workings of the program is considered essential, which won't fit with the expectations of those who would just drop their kids off in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day. For those who are comfortable with this 'cooperative' approach, it helps the children absorb the lessons of work-play-learning integrity.

Full blown day care was out of the question since we're already dropping dime for our Au Pair. A number of inside parks are on the pricier side, and further away. But the Parent Infant Center, also known as PIC, is close to us and very affordable. If you buy a 5 pack, it's $5 per visit. There are toys, lots of other kids, and they even provide snack time. They usually do some group songs and offer other activities. If you are up for helping, which is a super easy gig, you show up at 9am and help set up. Breaking down is even easier and typically happens while you would be there anyway. In exchange, they don't ask you to pay for that visit and give you three more free visits. Not too shabby. The crew is very nice and this is a great option for kids to interact without footing the bill for full blown daycare.

He came away knowing how to wrte all of his letters and how to write a few key words. they also have a robust (but fun!) curriculum and he would come home every day telling me all the interesting things he learned, from the features of arachnids, to the bones in his ear to countries in Africa. The summer program is awesome, too. The kiddos learn how to ride bikes, get tons of time in the pool and there are "fun Friday" themes. The office staff is great too. A couple of times last year I had to take my son out during nap for doctors appointments. When I brought him back later in the afternoon (which the rest of his class was still napping), he would get really upset. The women in the office took care of him, giving him little jobs as their helper and helping to calm him down. It puts my mind at ease every day knowing he is surrounded by such great people!

You (kids or parents) don't have to be beautiful, wealthy of wear expensive sneakers to feel valued here. And the parents are a thousand times friendlier than the ones at Gladwyne Elementary. If you read "Battle hymn of the tiger mom," Baldwin is more like the mom and FCS is more like the dad. They both end up as Ivy League professors but take different paths to get there. So, it depends what you are looking for. FCS is intentional in teaching excellent academics (just look at the list of colleges the kids attend), critical thinking, intellectual risk taking and compassion. The school uses various strategies to foster psychological and social well being and the result is that kids are not bogged down by loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc. Sports are in perspective alongside drama and music, and other co-educational activities. The curriculum integrates concepts with interesting experiences, such as going to the Rennaisance Faire as part of the social studies lesson on societal structures or examining cheek cells through microscopes for a biology lesson in cell structure. No wonder the school makes kids eager to learn and study! Our child has attended three schools and is by far the happiest at FCS. . Check it out for yourself: Friendscentral.org OPEN HOUSE Sat. In that time she has learned many things, but her language and social skills are what have really stood out to us. By age 2, she was saying her ABCs almost all the way through, counting as high as 20, and identifying shapes and colors like a pro. We're very thankful to have a school that is both affordable and flexible with her schedule, as it changes from week to week based on my work schedule. My husband and I moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 2017. Our baby had just turned 6 months and…read morebefore the move we were actively looking for a childcare center. We were disappointed that most centers were full and required us to be on a waiting list; however, we were pleasantly surprised that Bright Horizons had a spot available for our little one. We met with Laura, the director who insisted that we also bring in our 6 month old. Laura was very warm and disarming as she explained the curriculum and addressed my concerns from properly heating the breastmilk bottles and feeding schedule to when our daughter would be moved to the step up rooms. We are very much hands on parents when it comes to our little girl so we love to engage with the staff and ask how the day went and what the children learned. The instructors were very accommodating in terms of our expectations for our child. I am delighted that this is not just a daycare where I pay someone to change diapers and feed my child, but that there is a clear learning experience for all ages. We have had a couple of hiccups in relation to payment schedule/tuition fees. However, we were able to maintain clear communication with Laura and she was able to resolve those issues. The parents now have an app for Bright Horizons that include drop off notes and hourly updates on feedings, potty/diaper changes, nap times, and the lesson for the day. My last point in this review is that the classrooms are diverse. I haven't met many parents but the ones I see passing in the halls between dropping off or picking up my children are from many backgrounds. It is encouraging to know that this learning center fosters an environment of diversity at such a young age and we are happy to continue to support this education center.

She was a terrible napper at home and feeding was a challenge for me but within a few weeks, her teachers had her taking long naps and eating all kinds of things! They've definitely given me some tips. lol. I could tell that the staff really cared for the kids. Many mornings even the Pre-K and Kinder teachers would greet her by name! And Laura, the site director, has just been fantastic in being available and well-aware of how my baby is developing. It wasn't uncommon that Laura would see me in he hallway and update me on how well my daughter had napped that day or wanted to tell me about a new skill she was trying. Because my daughter started walking at 9 months, Laura worked with her to transition her to a room of bigger babies before her first birthday. This was really key for her because this exposed her to more activities, outside time (which she totally loves) and foods that the younger babes don't participate in. Unfortunately, we had to leave because it was no longer convenient for my commute but we really enjoyed our experience there.

The infant teachers are wonderful (saints, actually) and our son couldn't wait to get out of his stroller every morning to get to the classroom to see them and to play with his buddies. They followed the schedule we provided (for food, bottles and naps) and helped him with growth spurts/changes from breast milk to formula to different nap timings, etc. He was read to every day and was given the opportunity to explore with a multitude of toys and dolls and books. He also got the opportunity to paint often and when he started eating solid food, got to eat with his friends each day in an adorable little baby circle. The center is a little older so the toys and books definitely have gotten a lot of love but it's kept clean. It's secure, the kids' stuff is all labeled and organized and the rooms are laid out well to keep activities separate from the sleeping area. We were very happy we started here and were sad to leave.
