Carol knows the body and how to work with it to heal your pain and stress. She is a master at her craft and I highly recommend her

Carol delivered an outstanding massage. I called on short notice and she kindly fit me in to her schedule. Carol was able to identify my knots before I even pointed them out to her. The facility at her home was inviting and Carol was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend her services and will be scheduling another appointment on my next stay! read more

I've traveled around the world getting bodywork in all corners of the globe, and get massages nearly weekly in "normal" life in NYC. After 5 months of quarantine and isolation during COVID, meeting Carol has been a highlight of this year. She is a master healer and a gem in OBX. We were here for 4 weeks and I had the privilege of Carol's magnificent hands and care 3x during our stay. I am the pickiest of all picky people and I was blown away by her astute touch. Also to note, in this sensitive time of COVID, she took extra care to provide a sanitary and safe space. After my 3rd massage today, I feel like the trauma of the last 5 months have melted away. I am infinitely grateful that women like this exist in this world. Thank you Carol. You are a treasure. Do not hesitate to come here! It will be the best investment in your wellbeing you could possibly make. BEYOND 5 stars. read more

Carol gave my wife a massage in 2018. She loved it and Carol was kind enough and came out to talk to me and my son (while we tossed a ball out front) after they were done. I'm happy to see she's using best practices during COVID-19, even though cutting back on clientele is likely bad for business (health is more important!). Due to our schedule, we won't be able to use her services this year but we are looking forward to doing so again soon (hopefully by next summer!). read more

My husband and I were in town visiting and booked a couples massage with Carol and her colleague prior to us arriving in town. She was extremely easy to work with, very responsive, and even sent a reminder text the day before our massages. When we arrived at A Sanctuary Massage, we were immediately greeted and did not have to wait around or fill out unnecessary paperwork. They did, however, ask us if there were any target areas we wanted them to focus on. The massage tables were both heated, which felt INCREDIBLE. The entire massage was relaxing and felt amazing. It really felt like stress left our bodies and was a nice, relaxing start to the weekend. Carol also offered us bottled water and yummy chocolate after our massages were over. Also, as they are locals, they were able to give us some great recommendations on places to check out while we were in town. Super helpful! If we are ever back in town visiting, we will definitely book her again! We cannot recommend her enough. Thank you again, Carol! read more

After 3 days of painting my neck and shoulders were really tight. We were visiting in the area and I called Carol about coming in for a massage. I'm so glad I did! She couldn't have been nicer and took precautions against covid virus very seriously. Her massage was the best I've ever received. Her knowledge of human anatomy is amazing, and she knew exactly what to do to take care of my aches and pains. Her garden truly is a santuary, and the massage setting was serene and very relaxing. I can't wait to go back! read more

A Sanctuary Massage - Massage Therapy Near Me

My boyfriend and I booked a couple's massage while we were on vacation in OBX. Everything went very smooth. The house was easy to find and it was very welcoming when we walked in. Everything was set up and within minutes we were getting massaged. They made sure we were comfortable and asked us if there were any areas that needed worked on more than others. If I ever come back to the area, I would love to return. read more

Outstanding massage! Carol has healing hands. Her work on my frozen shoulder did more to loosen it up then physical therapy and cortizone has. I left feeling like jello. Highly recommend! read more

I have not had a massage here. I contacted (via text which is listed on the website) this lady about getting a couples massage for me and my husband on our honeymoon and was wondering if she had openings (told the dates) for couple massage. The initial response was not a friendly greeting but just "I will see what I can do in the morning". It was about 8PM so understand needing to check schedule. Next morning she sent me what was open and agreed to a day. I inquired about price and what she told me was different than what was reflected on her website. Website says $50 hr and $75 for 90 minutes. So I expected $150 or so for 90min couple. (Stone massage was listed at $100 hr. Home visits, travel visits were listed at $70 hr. with 2 person minimum) I do agree no specific price was listed for couple but figured it would be close to that price and was listed as available services on the site. We just wanted a nice massage with some deep tissue with us coming to her office space. What she told me was $100 hr for each. Even with the price different than expected I was ok with it and agreed but just let her know that her website did not reflect those prices and sent a snap shot of it in the text. I was not rude and not haggling over the price but was just letting her know the price listed was different than expected based on website in case she did not realize. The response I got back from here was rather rude. She states she "spent my morning trying to arrange this for you", " this had happened one time before" (I assume she meant confusion over price due to website) "I did my website so I know what it says" (which she obviously does not know) and that she was not going to "argue with anyone" followed by a very unprofessional "I think I'm done here". That was not my intent or even implied. I had already told her the different price was ok. I told her that I was not trying to argue with her but just trying to let her know what the website says. Thanked her for her time but that we would take our business elsewhere and hope she had a good day. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what (benefit of doubt rating of 2 instead of 1 star) but I was really surprised at the responses I got from the first contact and the continued lack of professionalism throughout the encounter. Considering the reviews I have seen for here on Yelp and all I was really taken back by my encounter. I would not go there after this if it was free. read more
