I'm happy to see she's using best practices during COVID-19, even though cutting back on clientele is likely bad for business (health is more important!). My husband and I were in town visiting and booked a couples massage with Carol and her colleague prior to us arriving in town. She was extremely easy to work with, very responsive, and even sent a reminder text the day before our massages. When we arrived at A Sanctuary Massage, we were immediately greeted and did not have to wait around or fill out unnecessary paperwork. They did, however, ask us if there were any target areas we wanted them to focus on. The massage tables were both heated, which felt INCREDIBLE. The entire massage was relaxing and felt amazing. It really felt like stress left our bodies and was a nice, relaxing start to the weekend. Carol also offered us bottled water and yummy chocolate after our massages were over. Also, as they are locals, they were able to give us some great recommendations on places to check out while we were in town. Super helpful! I have not had a massage here. I contacted (via text which is listed on the website) this lady about getting a couples massage for me and my husband on our honeymoon and was wondering if she had openings (told the dates) for couple massage. The initial response was not a friendly greeting but just "I will see what I can do in the morning". It was about 8PM so understand needing to check schedule. Next morning she sent me what was open and agreed to a day. I inquired about price and what she told me was different than what was reflected on her website. Website says $50 hr and $75 for 90 minutes. So I expected $150 or so for 90min couple. (Stone massage was listed at $100 hr. Home visits, travel visits were listed at $70 hr. with 2 person minimum) I do agree no specific price was listed for couple but figured it would be close to that price and was listed as available services on the site. We just wanted a nice massage with some deep tissue with us coming to her office space. What she told me was $100 hr for each. Even with the price different than expected I was ok with it and agreed but just let her know that her website did not reflect those prices and sent a snap shot of it in the text. I was not rude and not haggling over the price but was just letting her know the price listed was different than expected based on website in case she did not realize. The response I got back from here was rather rude. She states she "spent my morning trying to arrange this for you", " this had happened one time before" (I assume she meant confusion over price due to website) "I did my website so I know what it says" (which she obviously does not know) and that she was not going to "argue with anyone" followed by a very unprofessional "I think I'm done here". That was not my intent or even implied. I had already told her the different price was ok. I told her that I was not trying to argue with her but just trying to let her know what the website says. Thanked her for her time but that we would take our business elsewhere and hope she had a good day. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what (benefit of doubt rating of 2 instead of 1 star) but I was really surprised at the responses I got from the first contact and the continued lack of professionalism throughout the encounter. Considering the reviews I have seen for here on Yelp and all I was really taken back by my encounter. I would not go there after this if it was free. read more
