We were impressed at first with their intensive pre-enrolment evaluation where they used their proprietary tools and methods to assess our student's learning needs. They did a decent job presenting our student's needs and recommending learning plans to achieve our stated goals. I also like that they meet with us to discuss our student's learning progress. However, their program did not meet our specific needs due the following: Beyond what we were told in the periodic meetings, we did not have visibility to our student's learning materials. By design, there are no take home exercises or learning materials to encourage continued learning and practices while not at the center. We never saw the actual learning materials! Since there are no take-home work, it was important for us to see the actual learning materials and even how our student was graded on tests/exercises so that we can procure similar materials for ongoing practicing outside of tutoring sessions. The tutoring sessions did not translate to success in the classroom or report cards. We did not really have designated teacher/tutor. There seemed to be a rotation of teachers/tutors who would attend to our student during various tutoring sessions. This would be ideal for younger students but a concern for our student and our tutoring needs. We also became aware that their recruiting requirement for tutors indicated that "teaching experience is not required." Their fees outpace that of seasoned experienced tutors with teaching experience. In addition, I agree with another review on google (which looks like it has been taken down) about their tendency to be unnecessarily rigid. They once approached us within two hours to the start of our scheduled tutoring session and begged us to accommodate their last-minute schedule challenge and asked to inconveniently change our time. We obliged. At a later time, when we gave them a 12-hour notice of absence, they were unwilling to accommodate and instead rudely pointed to their policies (which is within their rights; they have a very rigid 24-hour rule). I did not appreciate their rudeness and overall impersonal attitudes considering that their services cater to families. I will definitely not recommend this tutoring program to other families!

Due to differences from their previous school in both teaching style and curriculum, both children needed additional support in mathematics. We have had such an excellent experience with Tutoring in Fairfax we have continued sessions throughout the summer and now into this next academic year- both students are excelling in their math classes and exhibiting confidence in their skills. For anyone seeking tutoring I would highly recommend Tutoring in Fairfax- the team that runs this organization has been highly responsive and efficient and the girls think the world of their tutor Marvin. The cost of quality tutoring in NoVA is significant but, in this case, I would say you absolutely receive what is promised. They offer both group and individual tutoring and they are truly invested in your satisfaction and in your student's experience.

They were able to hone his strengths and focus on areas needing improvement. They make learning fun and instill discipline at the same time. I've looked at other tutoring places but we chose TIF because aside from the amazing staff, principles, and depth of learning, the place is very conducive for individualized and focused learning --- they have separate rooms to help the students get 100% of attention. Laleh also makes time for parent interaction; you don't feel rushed when talking with her and she's a good listener and will work with the parents. It helps a lot that Zach, who manages the front office is always on top of things (scheduling changes, etc.). Plus, they offer a lot of flexibility in cancelling lessons ahead of time for any reason and will not charge you (unlike in others where you are locked in). If you are looking for quality for your kiddos, this is definitely the place to go.

Since he started Kumon, he established good work habits while he is doing Math and Reading everyday. I am very pleased that he is much more confident at school. My older kid who is 7th grade, taking Algebra Honors course at school. He started Kumon at beginning of this year because he is making careless mistakes at school. Because his lack of Math drill, he started Kumon on much lower level but he is catching up fast now. I am very confident that Kumon will be beneficial for both of boys and looking forward to see my kids improvement over the summer.

I still feel this could have just been explained to us during the time we just stood there or someone could have just rescheduled, I do think it's admirable that they care enough to spend the time talking to parents of enrolled students (hence the bump). I'm still no longer interested in enrollment though. 7/20: 1 star We were very excited to enroll our daughter in Kumon, as we have friends with children in Kumon, but in different location. We scheduled an assessment and appointment about a 5 days in advance (they are very busy and this was the earliest we could get). We arrived for our assessment, and our daughter was taken back to complete it. We waited outside (due to coiv.... very understandable). No one explained the process to us, just gave us some paperwork to fill out and review while we waited for our daughter's assessment to be completed. Once she was done, we had to ask what we needed to do next. after some confusion, someone told us we could wait inside. Then we waited, 20 mins (mind you, there were no chairs, just a window to lean on). We asked if we were waiting for someone, and they said, yes, someone would be out to talk with us shortly. We waited another 10 mins, and asked again what exactly we were waiting for, and they said someone would be with us. After another 10 mins, we gave up and left. We were set up for a 1 hour appointment, and left with our kid having only done a 10 min assessment in that time. They just seemed really unorganized and extremely busy. Not the best impression to make when seeking this kind of service. Parents should be aware that you cannot drop off your kid and return at the end of class... you must wait outside or in your car. The only plus was that our daughter said her assessor was really nice.
