Dr Reeder was excellent in her professionalism and delivered high quality compassionate care: able to provide flea and tick management for my elderly male Yorkie, Theo. Vet assistant Jenna, provided skilled service to Theo; soothing Theo with utmost care when Theo needed it most during the initial phase of the vet visit. Theo was very uncomfortable from fleas and was irritable from the heat from the hot day and from the trip to the vet. Theo's energy was mostly exerted from constant scratching himself from fleas; making him dehydrate and too tired to adequately drink water. I knew it was really important to manage his fleas since it was majorly affecting his quality of life. Jenna documented responses to relevant questions about Theo's issues and Jenna demonstrated a high skill set towards handling and comforting animals. Dr Reeder asked questions about Theo's daily pattern for hydration and nutritional needs. Dr Reeder detailed her assessment results as dehydration and a recommendation for a senior blood work panel. Dr Reeder added reasons for legal vaccination responsibilities for pets. After careful review of past reactions to medical issues, Dr Reeder listened to concerns and accounts of Theo's response to treatments in the past. Dr Reeder's care for Theo involved several factors that come with experience as a professional Veterinarian and ability to consider and include important information from care givers. Theo will not allow me to cut his nails at home. Theo had to be muzzled for a nail trim but to my amazement, Jenna cut Theo's nails and was gentle and reassuring towards him. Theo did not show signs of agitation when he was brought back to me. After Dr Reeder's careful expertise in consideration of Theo's care for best quality of life, My Theo received his Nexgard chewable prescription for a 4 lb Yorkie. Obtaining his medication with an external prescription is a different matter but finally obtained it at Walmart. I brought Theo home and gave him a bath, medicated him with Nexgard chewable and he was able to sleep well finally without constant scratching. I paid 35 dollars for the nail trimming and 80 dollars for the pet examination. I received a 6 month prescription with another refill. I was very happy with the care provided to my Theo. read more

My husband and I have 3 fur babies, and not only are they our literal kids, but they are ESA animals and very very much needed and loved. Dr. Grilley has always shown kindness and patience, even with my crazy River who has anxiety and triggers after coming from an abused home. And for me, I'm always worried about how she will be treated, I want everyone to love her and see beyond the reactiveness. We just had our other girl, Rose, have surgery, which we were very nervous about. Dr. Grilley made sure to talk to us about everything, in detail, so we felt SAFE. Which is the most important. I can't imagine ever wanting to take my girls to a different place or a different vet. She really is the best. In March of this year I had brought my dog Marshall, he was my Maltese he was 7 years old. He was very sick. He was my heart. My best friend. I had to put him down, this clinic was very caring and understanding of our feelings. They put a candle out in the waiting room out of respect that we had to say our goodbyes. Don't count on them. I have had so many issues with their "system"! I've always paid every bill which is a lot because I have 6 pets. I booked an appointment for my pet Brisa on Sunday for Tuesday at 9 AM. A pets choice sent me a text message to confirm my appointment on Monday. I sent back Yes to confirm. Tuesday at 7 Am they confirm AGAIN and at 8 AM I showed up early for my appointment . When I arrived I checked in the lady at the register and she said oh we tried to call you. We have canceled your appointment. I asked why she canceled my appointment and she said because I didn't pay a deposit fee for a visit because of a cancellation from a prior pet. I explained the situation about the prior pet and said: that that was a misunderstanding. I canceled as soon as I received the initial text message asking me if I wanted to confirm cancel or reschedule. I told her the note should be in the system as the lady told me she would note it. She said oh well there no note and you still have to pay a deposit to book a visit and we tried to call you about that yesterday. I'm in court a lot so I don't get to answer my phone but looked back and saw no missed calls. I like to text that's why specifically picked this place back before it was a pet choice. She explained that they could see me now but they were required to charge me a $25 work in fee. I'm no longer a customer. I left with my pet and we will find a new team. They're not compassionate or helpful when your pets are sick. It was a wonderful place before it turned into a pet choice and now it's not my choice and definitely not my pets! I feel like I was price gouged. They waited until I arrived, sent a text to insure I was coming, and then thought I had no other choice but to pay or would be too invested to leave. I would rather pay the emergency hospital thousands and wait hours than see my pet on short notice than return to this vet. The vet I saw in prior visits were great but there STAFF and POLICIES are horrible nobody knows what they are doing up front which is incredibly scary! read more

I have no clue what the heck was going on there during covid. I am Sooo happy they have the clinic back up and runnung again. The phone company they were using was horrible. I decided to give them a try again. Polite over the phone, 55 for annual vet exam for my kitty whos been seen many times there before and 13 for rabies. Some may think that's expensive but let me tell you- it's not. Some places charge you 30 for rabies vaccines. I'm calling from California and managed to get the appointment time I needed and update my information as well as inform them of the individuals taking my pet. I am pleased with their service. We have been taking our dogs to this vet since we got our first dog back in August 2020. We specifically have been working with Dr. Horton and her assistant Amanda during most of our visits. We moved recently and tried out another vet but decided to stay with APCB despite the longer drive because of how professional and compassionate the staff is at this vet office. We just had our annual checkup appointment and both of my dogs experienced a lot of anxiety and were hiding under the chairs. The whole staff was so patient with them to coax them out and into the exam room. During their checkups, they were mindful of how they can keep my dogs as comfortable as possible. There was a bit of a wait in the office but to us, it's worth it because of the high quality care both Dr. Horton and Amanda provide to our fur babies! read more

From the time we entered the door until we left everyone was extremely cordial. Technicians took a personal interest in Lily asking about her and commenting on how beautiful she was. Our Veterinary Technician Jada was thorough. She relaxed Lily before taking her in the back for her shots and complete physical examination by the Veterinarian. We did not hear her yelping or barking. We were told she growled a little when they attempted to check her teeth so they took our word on her gum & teeth health. Unfortunately they were unable to clip her nails. We will continue to work on touching her paws so her nails can be clipped and hopefully avoid sedation but that is a possible option in the future. She is a rescue and her nails were not regularly clipped. The compassion and flexibility they showed was admirable. They knew when to stop so as not to cause any undue stress or trauma. Next time we'll bring some treats for her since she turned her nose up at the milk bones they offered. The prices were very reasonable. I like vets like my dog likes vets ... he doesn't. I found this vet has reasonable rates but they'll nickel and dime you to make it worthwhile for them. Double check your receipt for missing items. I got a $12 tube of meds that he needs for chronic dry eye and they didn't put it on my invoice so I could get it somewhere else. Now they want me to pay another vet visit and they tell me it will go up from there. ‍ I am retired on a fixed income.. Today we were feeling a bit iffy about one of our dogs health, so we went in around noon. The front desk said we could have a curbside appointment at 1:30 pm w/no guarantees that we would be seen at that time as there were lots of sick animals today. Fine, we made the appointment. As we were waiting we changed our minds and decided we'd rather go home and monitor the dog instead of waiting in the parking lot for 90 minutes minimum. We CALLED IN TO CANCEL our appointment. 1:30 rolls around and we receive a voicemail that we had no call no showed and that going forth, we would need to put a deposit down to make appointments. We called in to explain that the appointment itself had been made with less than 90 minutes notice, and we had called to cancel. They didn't care. Since we had canceled w/less than two hours notice we'd need to pay a deposit going forth. Even though we've been patronizing them for over 10 years, I guess we lost their trust! We've taken our adopted Pitbulls to 3 locations for Thrivewell Pet Care aka Affordable Pet Care. They have been really good with our pet needs, to include approving cheaper prescriptions from third parties. Every location has been clean and attentive. We were told another group was buying out the practice except for one location and wed have to reenroll with the new company or just go to the one location, that's not close to our house. This place is definitely cheaper and as good as the other vet my daughter used to take her dog to in Castle Hills to. I haven't had to go to the vet yet and didn't reenroll with the new company. read more

I previously enjoyed taking my little Pekingese to this clinic. However, when her heart worm medicine ran out the Dog pharmacy required an approval from my vet. The vet then required an unnecessary heart worm test, although my dog had been on the heart worm medicine continuously. I asked to speak to the vet who never returned any of mine or my wife's several calls. The clinic's solution to solve the problem was to ignore it. How RUDE! Well I guess they could not justify requiring an unnecessary test just to run up the bill. I have used this place several times. I have used the to put animals to sleep to getting low cost vaccinations. Rabies shot for 10 bucks and no exam fee. Yes please! I will take it. I get my animals their yearly checkup but I just needed a rabies shot for the moment. I call all over town looking for an affordable place since it is the middle of the month and pay day was well over two weeks away. I don't know why I didn't think of them first! I was in and out in about 20 minutes. They gave my hounds some treats and even though I was embarrassed by my big goofy mutt being just that, they thought he was sweet and loved all over him. They were gentle with my nervous soul of a dog and gave her some treats and off we went. All of their prices are reasonable and the staff is great. I will be back for my future doggie needs. Beware there is some crazy construction going on around there. If you take Blanco to Basse you can get there pretty easy, if you come up Basse you will have to take a detour through the neighborhood, I don't know how easy that works but they appear to have it marked pretty well. read more

My family had been coming to this place for years for their pets but when I took my pet the front desk was rude, lack compassion and are unprofessional. I even asked simple questions like where I could buy flea medication and the front desk flat out said "I'm not gonna tell you that" (They apparently changed their policy so your pet has to be seen or they won't sell you flea medication) Safe to say I will never step foot in this place and quite frankly you'll be better off going somewhere else. read more

I'm only giving them two stars because they used to be good, and because I think 1 star would mean they actually harmed my dog. This is friggin long story, but the bulletpoints are that they only want your money and cannot be trusted. Take your pets elsewhere, there are so many other options. This hospital has changed a lot over the years, and I sincerely think they should change their name, because it is very deceiving. We take our dogs to the mobile pet clinic at Locke Hill Feed Store to get their shots, and I keep all of their records. We WERE taking the dogs to "Affordable" if it was something that seemed minor, or Castle Hills Companion for more major stuff. Affordable always kinda insinuated that we weren't getting our dogs vaccinated ANYWHERE just because we didn't get them done there. I now believe that their receptionists are told to say things along those lines so that they can have more of an income stream for that. This week, our chihuahua mix was not eating or drinking, and there was blood in her urine. They were able to fit her in the same day on Wednesday, and were told that we should collect a fecal sample, authorized X-rays, and after waiting to hear the results, the doctor said that there was an unidentified mass in her g.i. tract, that was hopefully just fecal matter. We paid $600, which also included flea meds(our bravecto hasn't been working on them) and i.v. fluids, and were told that the X-rays were being sent out to radiology(told this by the DOCTOR, not a Tech), and that we should collect a fecal sample. We were told that we would hear from them the next day about what the radiology dept. had determined. Then, the next day Thursday, we don't hear anything, but we still hadn't been able to collect the poop for the sample, and I was off the next day, Friday, also. So, Friday, I call around 12:30, and am told that the Techs are out to lunch, and can they call me back? Sure, no problem. Then, finally around 3:15, I get a call back, and she says 'We've been kind of busy, sorry for the delay. I wasn't here yesterday, but I am told that you need to pay for the X-rays to be sent out to radiology." Argggghhhhh. I'm not even talking about yesterday and you should be able to access my appointment day, right? Then you tell me that your hospital hasn't seen this dog in two years, and while it is frustrating, as dogs age, a lot can happen in two years' time. I say that I was told that the X-rays were sent off and we would be hearing from y'all yesterday, but nothing, and AGAIN you say you weren't there yesterday. Ok, lady, so we dealt with 4 people on WEDNESDAY, and I'm pretty sure if your hospital has been around for 15+ years, that y'all have a way to make notes on the files in the computer, or you can find one of the 4 people we spoke with on WEDNESDAY, not yesterday. I say"So, if someone from your office told us that the x-rays were being sent off to be looked at, but maybe you forgot to charge us for it, I still have to pay?" "Yes ma'am." And it was the DOCTOR who told us the ball was in motion, and now they want another $101 for something you told us was included? Why in the heck would I ever take any of my animals to you again? No more. This place has changed for the worse so much, and they are no longer less expensive than other much better institutions. read more

We have been bringing our pets here since 1999. The staff and doctors from the past 5 years or so until now are the best so far. Dr. Horton and Dr. Grilley are the vets we see most often. Our pets have had surgeries there and I received updates over the phone, which was very nice. The vets and staff know our pets and are always very helpful. While all vet care is expensive, I appreciate that I am given an estimate of any treatment and options are always discussed before deciding on what to do. The techs and front desk staff are incredibly helpful on the phone and in person. If you visit the vet, you always get a call the next day to see how your pet is doing. If you have any questions or concerns, they get back to you by the end of the day. read more

I arrived at 2:40 at my appointment at 2:45 pm ... after me, 3 patients arrived and they passed them to the rooms before my dog, why?.. I dont know. They passed me to room # 3 at 3:35, the doctor arrived at 4:00, the doctor took 7 minutes to see my dog... I no longer wanted to waste my time there, I left the room at 4:40 pm ... I'm going to look for a doctor who is respectful and with a better service... the service in this place is disgusting. First let me say, the reception and staff of APC Basse are great with animals and this review is no reflection on them On the morning of December 17th, 2020 I brought my Newfoundland, Boomer, to an appointment with Dr. Horton. I listed his symptoms as weakness, lethargy, diarrhea and a cloudy right eye with poor vision. After she examined him, she called me to inform me of your findings. she told me his weakness, lethargy, diarrhea could be caused by digestive issues, his eye issue was most likely a manifestation of another problem and stated "his labs from October looked good". She prescribed some eye drops ($160), gave me a referral for another doctor to look at his eye and sent him home. When I brought him home, his symptoms continued. I went to work and my wife stayed home with him. At approximately 4:30, my wife called and said there was something wrong and she was trying to get Boomer up to get in the car to go to the pet emergency room but he couldn't get up so I immediately left work to help her. 15 minutes later, my wife called me and said Boomer had stopped breathing. When I got home, she told me he threw up, let out a loud yelp, began to shake, took gulp of air and went limp. Boomer was dead less than 8 hours after you told me you examined him. About 5 years ago Dr. Megan Boening, formerly of APC Basse, examined Boomer and with an echocardiogram, confirmed he had SAS, a potentially serious heart condition. She told us if precautions weren't taken or we didn't seek prompt treatment if he became ill; any illness that could effect his heart could be fatal. My wife and I have gone to great lengths to try to keep his weight down (before the Pandemic and the hip surgery), make sure Boomer didn't over exert himself, ate well, and took the medications she prescribed to keep him as healthy as possible, which we did with excellent results. In August when he needed hip surgery, an echocardiogram was done (by the same people who did his first echocardiogram 5 years ago) prior to the surgery to make sure his heart was well enough for the procedure. When they compared his first and latest echocardiogram, they concluded his condition was unchanged so the surgery went as expected. APC-Basse is the only veterinarian service we ever used since Boomer came to us as an 8 week old puppy, more than 9 years ago. When the Pandemic hit and owners were no longer allowed to accompany their pets into the clinic, I became nervous because I felt I needed to be in there to speak for Boomer to assure nothing would be missed or overlooked in his treatment. I am not a doctor, I had to assume Dr. Horton knew what she was doing and I made the mistake of trusting her. She knew of his heart condition and ran no tests to find out what was wrong with him; she relied on tests from October, two months prior to this appointment. Since first coming to APC-Basse in December of 2011, we've seen numerous very good doctors come and go and noticed the jumps in prices for services. Yet, we stuck with APS because we always felt Boomer was getting excellent care and good medical attention until we began dealing with Dr. Horton. I blame myself for allowing her to continue treating him. My advise is, if you go to ACP Basse, the reception and staff will treat your animal with love and care but I highly recommend you avoid Dr. Horton. read more

My wife and I have been taking our pets here for more than 12 years. A couple of years ago they went under new management. At the beginning they were great and since the takeover we noticed things were going downhill towards our pets care and just how we were treated. Well, our latest was the final time and the search for a new and caring vet has begun. They told my wife this last time that they couldn't work with us on scheduling and if we wanted, we could be a walk in customer and they would charge us the 35.00 fee. Also, if we made an appt and showed up late, we would also he assessed the same fee. My wife explained that we're long time clients and Gabby needed to be seen and it was hard for her to sit and wait because of her teachers scheduling. We've walked in before and have waited for hours before being seen. They replied there was nothing they could do and the 35.00 dollar fee remained no matter the circumstance. My wife told them we would be picking up the pets records for another vet. Shame that it all becomes more important about the dollar and not the treatment. They're just not the same vet anymore. We loved it here. The staff was amazing and the doctors were awesome. BUT...We decided to take our pets elsewhere because it became to much of an inconvenience. Basically they started charging for two visits. You can't take your pet anymore to get routine check and vaccinated. You have to book two separate appointments (one for the check up and a separate one for the vaccinations). This no longer worked for us. We have busy jobs and taking time for two appointments was not convenient. Unfortunately they lost our business with that change. read more

I did not end up going here. "Affordable" is a questionable part of their name. I was in the area for one day only and wanted to get a rabies vaccine for my daughter's dog. The friendly receptionist said that they were booked solid, but for an extra $7.50, I could wait in the office until they could work us in. Since we had not been there before, it would also cost an extra 55.00 for an initial exam fee even though I only wanted a rabies vaccine. Then, the rabies shot would cost $15.00. I couldn't afford that, so I went elsewhere and paid only $13.00 for the shot and no extra fees. read more

I wish I could give this place a zero star, I took a puppy I found who had been having seizures. They recommended I take her to an overnight facility but wouldn't release my puppy to me. Then the female veterinarian told me the puppy accidentally bit a technician while she was having a seizure and would have to report it once I took her. She was such a bitch, never in my life had I had someone throw oh well she bit my tech during a seizure so if you take her I'll have to report it. The female veterinarian recommended me to put her down, which I eventually did because she wouldn't release her to me. Fuck that bitch. Don't ever come here read more
