To say that these people are dishonest, is a major understatement. I've leased more than ine thing from them in the past. The first thing they tell you is you "must" buy the insurance which is not true. But they will coerce you into doing it by telling you they won't rent the item to you unless you buy the insurance and since they are about one of two dealers in the area, you're stuck with their demands unless you go to Vegas. Second, the last time I rented a 25 ft truck from them, my mover picked up the truck. He didn't tell me it had an engine light on it. The mover was Sidney Howard. The Uhaul agent there told him not to worry about the engine light. He said the catalytic converter was out, but he had fixed the problem. The mover loaded the truck, then told me it was brojwn and it wasn't safe to drive so he wasn't going to drive it. He was supposed to drive it to LA that next morning for me to move in. Needless to say, I was upset as to why I wasn't told that it was broken before getting loaded it. I contacted Uhaul agent the next morning and asked about the problem. He said there was nothing wrong with the truck and refused to give me another one. He said someone had stolen the catalytic converter and they put a smaller one on it to save costs so that is why the engine light was on. He also said, "you wouldn't have known there was a problem had there not heen an engine light on." I told him, that was the first I'd heard of the light. He hung up on me and told me not to call back. I had to spend all day getting regional involved. They issued another truck from another location. It took nearly half a day to get that done. By the time the movers unloaded and reloaded another truck, I missed my moving deadline and lost the apt. So, I ended up having to leave most everything and bring a small 6x12 trailer since the movers charged me $1800 for all of that. Uhaul regional admitted, after many calls, that they don't know why the truck was ever rented out. They said there was no catalytic converter on it at all. It was stolen and had not been replaced. There wasn't a "smaller" one on it. They were going to investigate the problem. Basically, the agent at A1 forced me to get the insurance knowing the truck would break down then he wouldn't have to deal with the problem. It would be my problem on the road. Uhaul only reimbursed me $900. I lost over $5000. *Note, the mover is just as at fault for not telling me it was broken before loading it. read more
