I go to BCAC to drop off the payment for the water bill. Pre-COVID-19, I used to go to the second floor and drop it off at the office where a clerk would stamp and date the bill upon receipt. Due to the pandemic, I have been using the drop box option where I don't even need have to get out of my car. The drop box is located at the foot of the median facing the building when you drive in. The building has quite a nice interior. The directory is located in the vestibule, as well as an Official US flag disposal box. The building has two floors and there are offices on both floors with two beautiful staircases on either side. The different services/departments that can be found at BCAC include: - Main Floor - Tax Commissioner Department of Division of Aging Services Environmental Health & Animal Control Public Health - Second Floor - Engineering and Planning & Zoning County Administrator Commissioners' Meeting Room Tax Assessor Clerk of Court Magistrate & Probate Court There is also a nice art exhibit throughout the building which I'm sure includes works by local artists which I think is such a great use of the space! The building is always pristine and very peaceful. I have seen the building used as a voting site as well. Parking can be found in front or back of building. Usually, I don't ever need to go to the back of the building for parking because there's always a spot in front, but there is a really nice firefighter memorial in the back. Stay safe, Friends!

I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to early vote for this major Presidential election, at…read morethe Eisenhower voting location, at the office of Board of Elections. The line seemed long due to the enforced Covid 6' spacing, but it moved quickly. All in all, beginning to end, it took me about 40 minutes. That's about what I expect on any major election. Don't forget your mask- it's required. Additionally, tenting kept those waiting out of the direct sun/rain, complimentary water available while waiting, voters were respectful and cordial, as well as, the volunteers. The voting machines at this location appear new and require a slight different procedure. You'll receive a plastic voter card, that has a chip reader, to insert in your machine. The voting process is much the same at this point. However, once you make your selections and you've finished voting, you'll print your ballot that will include a scanning code. Your final step is to take your printed ballot with scan code and insert into a machine that, I'm assuming, will read your scan code. Additionally, the printed copy will not be returned and remains in the machine. Two ways to confirm your vote! As always when voting: no cell phones, no videoing, no campaigning, no weapons. Also, secured absentee ballet box here and waiting area for handicap voters that are given priority.

Located on Bay Street that approaches downtown Savannah and the Talmadge Memorial Bridge, this…read moremarker points out the history of the adjacent neighborhood. There is a lot to read on the marker with dense text but there is parking in a nearby closed gas station where you can stop. The marker has the same text on both sides. It reads, "The Hudson Hill community derives its name from the first pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church located on Weldon Street. The church, established on April 10, 1895, was served by Rev. A. Hudson for its first 13 years. Rev. Hudson was such an influential leader in the local community that people began to refer to the area as "Hudson Hill." With the exception of the Jasperville area, Hudson Hill was settled later and developed differently than the other western Savannah communities. Hudson Hill is smaller than Woodville and West Savannah and its growth as a neighborhood expanded in the mid twentieth century after the area was annexed by the City of Savannah in 1939. The growth of employment in the port and industries was crucial to the development of each western Savannah community. However, the later period of significant settlement and proximity to the port and industries along its northern boundary resulted in Hudson Hill developing with a unique mix of single-family houses and employer-built apartments and duplexes. Examples of this housing in the community include the Mutual Quarters duplexes constructed by the Mutual Fertilizer Company, the Union Bag village, and the World War II-era shipyard worker housing developments later renamed Clearview Homes and Bayview Homes." The marker was erected through the cooperation of several organizations including the Federal Highway Administration, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the City of Savannah. Midway always surprises you. For a place that feels quiet today, sitting at the crossing of US‑17…read moreand US‑84 with its churchyard pines and faint coastal breeze, it carries an outsized share of early American history. The landscape looks modest now, but in the eighteenth century this was the heart of Saint Johns Parish, a community of educated, politically assertive New England transplants whose influence reached far beyond the marshes around them. The marker for Nathan Brownson fits neatly into that pattern, another reminder that this small corner of Liberty County produced leaders who helped shape both Georgia and the nation. This marker tells the history of another such historic figure. It reads, "Georgia Colonial governor, trustee of the proposed University of Georgia, physician, Nathan Brownson became governor of Georgia in 1781, serving until Jan. 1782. Prior to this time Brownson served as a member of the Provencial Congress which met in Savannah July 4, 1775. He was, also, a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1776-1778 and was surgeon to a Georgia brigade. "Born in Connecticut in 1742, a graduate of Yale College, Brownson studied medicine and practiced that profession in his home state, moving to St. John`s Parish (now Liberty County), Georgia in 1764. Active in the cause of liberty, Brownson became one of the leaders in the revolutionary cause. He was one of the delegates to the state convention that ratified the U.S. Constitution in Augusta on 31 December 1787. "Nathan Brownson died in Liberty County October 18, 1796, being best remembered as governor and as one of the founders of the University of Georgia." The marker itself carries no number, but it was placed in 1992 by the Georgia State Society and the Daughters of the American Colonists, adding one more chapter to Midway's long habit of honoring the people who shaped its identity. It stands quietly at the roadside, yet it points to a life woven deeply into the story of Georgia's independence, its early government, and its commitment to education, all rooted in a community that still feels the echoes of its revolutionary past. On a very busy roadway that leads into downtown Savannah, this marker points out some of the more…read morerecent history of the area. It's very small print and thankfully there is enough space to pull over to be able to read it. The marker reads, "Urbanization of western Savannah in the early twentieth century was spurred by growth in employment opportunities at the Central of Georgia Railroad facilities, the port, and the port-dependent industries that included the Hilton-Dodge Lumber Company, American Can Company, Mutual Fertilizer Company, Diamond Match Company, and Union Bag and Paper Corporation. The industrial facilities provided abundant jobs for both white and African American workers in the Jim Crow era, and the major roads and electric railways serving the area helped create the Hudson Hill, Woodville, and West Savannah neighborhoods as workers chose to settle close to the city's major employers. A diverse mix of small businesses that appealed to both neighborhood residents and motorists soon expanded along the Augusta Avenue and Bay Street corridors. These businesses reached their peak in number and diversity in the 1950s and included small grocery stores, seafood markets, fruit stands, restaurants, dry cleaners, pharmacies, and gas stations. They declined in the 1970s as residents shopped elsewhere and finally collapsed in the 1990s when layoffs in the manufacturing sector caused working-age residents to move, leaving fewer homeowners and customers to support local businesses." Quite a few sponsors for the marker including the Federal Highway Administration, the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Chatham County and the City of Savannah. It is in excellent condition and has the same text on both sides. [Review 19348 overall - 583 in Georgia - 318 of 2023.]

His is the second in the left-most column with Button Gwinnett and George Walton. The marker reads, "Dr. Lyman Hall was a Georgia signer of The Declaration Of Independence. He represented Saint John's Parish in the Continental Congress, and was a delegate from Georgia to the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia. "He was a founder of Sunbury and as Governor of Georgia (1783-1784) he gave strong support to education and religion. He was instrumental in obtaining the grant of land which led to the establishment of the University of Georgia. "Born in Wallingford, Connecticut, April 12, 1724, Dr. Hall moved to Saint John's Parish where he purchased the plantation now known as Hall's Knoll. He became a leading physician, planter, patriot, and was active in mercantile and shipping circles in Sunbury. Dr. Hall died in 1790 and was buried on his plantation at Shell Bluff Landing in Burke County. In 1848, his remains were re-interred in Augusta, beneath the granite obelisk, 'The Signers' Monument.'" Dr. Lyman Hall became a central figure in Saint Johns Parish, where the independent Congregationalist community trusted him enough to send him to the Continental Congress even before the rest of Georgia committed to the patriot cause. His work in Sunbury's commercial world and his ties to the Midway church network helped shape the region's political identity, and his later push for education grew directly from the parish's long tradition of literacy and religious instruction. His eventual reinterment beneath the Signers Monument in Augusta reflects how Georgia slowly came to honor a man whose medical skill, political resolve, and deep connection to Midway left a lasting imprint on the state's early history. The marker was erected by the Daughters of American Colonists. [Review 116 of 2026 - 888 in Georgia - 25306 overall]
