I picked this place because it has a gasthaus in the hotel and online it looked charming and unique. That it is but not in the positive way that was express online. The reception desk personnel hardly spoke English. The restaurant and gasthaus are really nice but they again do not speak English and their entire menu is in German. I get that I'm in Germany but having traveled all over the world and also being in Marketing, I think it's poor form in 2017 to not provide one other language especially when English is quickly becoming the common language. The bar and restaurant are pretty and the food was really good! The beer was also very good! I'm glad I picked the right food location. As for the hotel, it's a dump. The room is very old, the bed is not comfortable, the furniture is aged, there is no heater that you can adjust. The towels supplied are like blue scratchy towels worse than you might have at home. Wifi doesn't reach the bar area so you're limited on range. Glad I'm only here one night as this is not the most charming town in Germany at all.

Also, the rates were very reasonable, and it included breakfast. The property does not have elevators, or AC. I don't remember seeing heat either, but then again, I went in the middle of summer and didn't look very hard for heat. The service at the hotel is wonderful. We got faulty directions from GPS unit, and got to the hotel after the stated last check-in time. I had tried to call to let them know that we were coming but alas, the cell phone reception was very poor. Nonetheless, the very friendly front desk lady stayed past her off duty time until we got there and checked us in before leaving. We definitely appreciated this level of service! The town of Lichtenau is a small quaint town. After we checked in, it was a little after 10pm. There were only two spots in town that were still open for food. The next morning, after our breakfast at Landgasthof zur Blume, we took a leisurely stroll around town. On the surface, there's not much to do or see at Lichtenau. In reality, we really enjoyed interacting with the local people during our walk around town. Everyone is so friendly, and the houses so beautifully kept. We love Lichtenau, and we love Landgasthof zur Blume. We hope to be back very soon.

I sat at the bar and got amazing service with some really good recommendations for wine. I chose the Dorado for my main, and the fish had so much flavor and tenderness. It all paired really well with the tomato sauce and rice. White fish can sometimes be plain, so I was really happy with how the chef prepared the dish. I finished it off with a vanilla creme brûlée that had the perfect creamy texture and a nice hard sugar shell. I'm normally not a dessert guy, but again, the young lady behind the bar recommended it and paired it with a port that really brought out the vanilla flavors. Quick note, the menu seemed to only be available in French and German. Fortunately my high school French came back after my first glass of wine. Overall a really enjoyable experience and I'd definitely recommend.
