My earlier review is in the "Not Recommended" reviews, but we gave 5 stars and would again. Henry is a wonderful addition to our family!

I had been looking for the right dog for 3 years. It was a Saturday and I was off to Trader Joe's for my usual weekly shopping, but it was nice out and there were these little "Adoption" signs pointing to the adjacent PetSmart. So I followed them. A Home 4 Ever Rescue was set up and they had the cutest small and mid-sized dogs. Henry was in the furthest cage with his back to the people staring at the wall. I asked the women volunteering, "What about this one?" I was told, he is only available for Foster. He's been returned a couple of times because he was not warming up and not a snuggly dog. (We say that his cuteness is also his curse because he does not want to be carried everywhere and he is not a lapdog.) Henry turned to look at me with the saddest eyes I have ever seen. He let out a huge sigh and then turned and put his head down again. Yep...this dog needs me. Erin asked if I wanted to hold him...so I did...for an hour. She gave me the information and paperwork on what it means to foster and I took it home to my other half who said he would come with me the next Saturday to meet him. Luckily, he was in love as much as I was. We fostered for many months and decided he was the perfect fit for our family. It's now two years later, we are a foster fail story, and seeing this sweetheart blossom and lose his fear of us has been a huge gift. He still runs if you sneeze, but it's only a few feet now compared to him heading to a different floor when we first brought him home. He is my constant shadow and absolutely loves to join me on hikes and beach walks and can convince my other half that he must have a treat by staring at him with those beautiful brown eyes. If you are looking for the right dog, talk to this rescue, talk to any rescue about the personality traits you are looking for...they know these dogs better than the shelters do and do want to find the right family so that these dogs...and you...thrive as a unit. Thank you A Home 4 Ever Rescue.

Rocco's first outing!

Let me start by addressing the people that left negative reviews - I am so sorry that a dog you wanted to adopt was adopted to someone else because your emails were ignored. That is unfortunate and I did have an email also go unanswered initially. The reality is that this is a non-profit and it's made up of volunteers. Their priority is save the dogs/puppies, make sure they are well cared for, see the vet, get their shots going, etc. and then are adopted out into forever homes. If you have been to one of their adoption days at PetCo, you can see how overwhelming it is to care for so many animals or different ages, temperaments, breads, issues - along with all the people that are there looking at them - and keep things straight. My daughter found our now puppy online and went to one of the events at the pet store on 17th in Costa Mesa. We filled out an application shortly thereafter and after a few inquiries, I was contacted by the actual foster mom who put me in touch with Erin, who runs the operation. Once I got a phone number for Erin, we were able to speak and we decided to head to the next adoption day so my husband and I to meet the puppy. In the meantime, the foster (Leanne) was SUPER helpful, and texted me all kinds of info on our soon-to-be puppy. Whe took Rocco home the following week. Erin was great at the adoption event - she remembered me from our phone call, and Leanne and another volunteer foster mom, Kelly, were SO helpful once we got him home. It's been about 3 months and they still text me, to check in on us! This is a great origination that does amazing work. Please give them grace if they have not gotten back to you. With that being said, if there is a puppy you have a strong interest in, I encourage you to be a "pest" and keep trying to connect with them. *Note they will not take you seriously until you fill out the application. I know it's a lot of info to fill out, but the job of the rescue is to vet you out and make sure you have the temperament, patience and resources to give these dogs a forever home. We had a very positive experience and our family is better because of it.

I am so grateful for this rescue! I stumbled across one of the events they were holding at petsmart and met the sweetest dog I have ever met. Erin allowed me to foster to see if it would be a great fit and I couldn't bear the thought of giving him up after a couple of days. He is the most perfect boy and I truly couldn't imagine not having him around. Fast forward a year and I adopted my second fur baby from this rescue. Both dogs were in very bad shape with rotting teeth, fleas, mites, ticks but the rescue made sure that they received all vet care needed so that they can live comfortably. They are both in great health and are the greatest dogs!

I have a true appreciation for this rescue. I found a stray dog roaming a busy street and because I already have two dogs of my own, I did not intend on keeping her. I reached out to about 10 rescues, only 3 got back to me, and only 1 offered their help, which was A Home 4 Ever Rescue. I volunteered to foster the dog, and the rescue offered to help me find her a home and to help with medical expenses. One member in particular, Adriana, went out of her way to assist me and help find this doggie a home. This rescue is solely run by the kindness of their volunteers and I had a first hand glimpse of how much work it is. So the fact that Adriana found the time to help me, in addition to her volunteer work, and her full time job is truly amazing. The volunteers of this rescue sacrifice so much of their lives to this cause, so please consider donating or adopting one of their wonderful dogs.

We found a home forever on petfinder.com. After falling in love with a pug, Australian shepherd mix, we went to Petsmart to visit the puppy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The dogs looked healthy and happy. They are well groomed. We are in love with our new dog.

We are so grateful for our experience with adopting "Braveheart" from A Home 4 Ever Rescue. The entire process from submitting the initial application, to meeting our pup, to filling out the final adoption paperwork, was so quick and straightforward. We truly appreciate Adriana and Alex with A Home 4 Ever Rescue for being so supportive and for their dedicated to finding these pups their forever homes. Braveheart is the most perfect little guy and we already cannot imagine our lives without him. Thank you!!

After saying goodbye to our 17 year old Labradoodle at the end of last year, we found out there are a lot of doodles that need homes. We found California Doodle Rescue, and started to look at what dogs and puppies they had available. We are so glad we did! Tilia is the most sweet, loving doodle with an amazing disposition given what her first 6 mos might have looked like, she is learning fast and interested in exploring the world around her. She is a perfect fit for our household and we feel blessed to have taken the adoption route!! Thank you to Jennifer, our contact there, and to the foster we met when we picked up Tilia. So he saw me coming from a mile away and left them here but said only for a few hours and surprise surprise he never came back or answered his phone after that or replied to any of my texts. And as a matter of fact blocked me all together on fb. So i did what i had to do when i was left with no other choice but to look in to relinquishing them to a shelter. And it was tough because the first day after he brought them WITHOUT a cage and just brought the babies in a shoebox and momma he was holding in his arms with no food for momma. So he screwed me. And i had to do what i had to do. So i understood everywhere i went at first because the number 1 policy is that the person taking the animal or animals has to live in that city so the first three had a legitimate excuse but then i went to the appropriate one and my bad i forgot my ID ive never done this before so i didnt know there was such a process. And i went took the cats back home and got my ID went the next day with kittens ID ready to go because thats what they said that thats the only thing i would need to be helped there. And im there a different woman and the same one that was there the day before were now both at front desk and the one i hadnt seen the day before starts to ask for my ID and asks what i was doing and i look at the other one and i asked her if now i was going to be helped because i did what she said and the other one asked me what seemed like a TRICK QUESTION one that no matter how i answered would be the wrong answer and i knew i was there the day before so i said two days because i didnt want to lie and the girl says its $800. $100 for each cat because ive had them for two days so that made them legally my pets AND I WAS HOT BECAUSE FIRST OFF IM NOT A PIECE OF SHIT I WOULD NEVER TAKE ANY OF MY PETS TO A FUCKING SHELTER. I CARE FOR MY PETS THEIR MY FAMILY. So then i said because some guy abandoned them that made them mine really because i was there the day before but they didnt want to proceed even when i promised i would email a picture of my identification. So im trying to do the right thing and would it have been better if i left them at their door and one of the women immediately talks over me and takes a copy of my id without my permission and says she's going to use it and contact the authorities and say i abandoned my cats and its a felony and all of this with my dad sitting in a chair in the waiting room. She was talking out of her ass like if she were a lawyer guarantee she doesnt know the law. But thats how bad this place is

This was my family's first experience with pet adoption. Pet Match Rescue (PMR) made the experience smooth and organized, by having the adoptable pets online for review and applications available online so that you can prepare one in advance. You can look at their events list for an opportunity to meet the dog and talk with someone from the Pet Match organization. I love how Pet Match cares for its animals and focuses primarily on what is in the best interest in each of its dogs. They want to meet everyone in your family, talk with you and ensure there will be plenty of love and good compatibility between you and your future pet. If you want an organization where you just give them money and get a dog, no questions asked...this is not the place for you! They truly love their dogs and want them to have the best possible home. On the day of the event, we arrived at Petco and followed the Pet Match signs to visit Beverly, the beautiful little Yorkie/Pomeranian that we previously viewed on the website. We found a pen with some of the adoptable dogs in it, along with Phyllis, their foster mom. There we had an opportunity to visit with Beverly and chat with Phyllis about the dog. We found Phyllis to be a very friendly, caring foster mom for these dogs, with a very loving heart. She told us all about the little dog, including how she likes to play, her personality and eating habits. We were given an opportunity to take the dog for a short walk and get acquainted with our possible new companion. Along the walk our family spoke with Phyllis and shared what our home would be like for Beverly. After our brief walk and visit with Beverly, we decided that we would love for her to be a member of the family. We took our completed adoption papers to the table where we met Linda. We were a bit nervous when we talked with Linda, since we were anxiously hoping that we would be accepted as a match for Beverly. We talked about our home, told her a little about ourselves and even showed her pictures of our home. I thought bringing pictures of our home and the neighborhood where we would walk her, with lush greenbelts would help show Pet Match what it would be like for Beverly to live with us. The next morning, we received a call from Pet Match confirming that our family was matched with Beverly and that they would like to come with Beverly to visit our home. The next day, Linda brought Beverly to our home along with a big bag of toys and treats. Together we watched as Beverly played in our home and became comfortable in her new surroundings. Linda is very compassionate about their dogs and before we knew it, hours had gone by. She gave us lots of good advice on how to care for Beverly and showed us which food products were the best and which ones were not recommended. Linda talked to us about Beverly's feeding schedule and showed us all of the products, treats and coupons in the goodie bag. We enjoyed Linda's visit and appreciated all the advice that she provided about Beverly. She is an exceptional member of the Pet Match team and really goes the extra length to successfully adopt a pet. Beverly has been a wonderful addition to our family and has brought us much love and happiness. We couldn't be more pleased!

We looked on petfinder.com for a new puppy and we see a litter of six havanese mix puppies that are as adorable as can be. I submit an application and am told via email that we cannot see them unless we show up at a public viewing the following Sunday at the Petco in Newport Beach. It was Father's Day so we had to change our plans around to make it in time. They were showing them from noon to 3pm and we showed up at 2:30. The place was a mad-house. Totally mobbed with people from all over So Cal waiting around to get their 5 minutes in the play pen with the gorgeous puppies. There were literally over 100 people there during our stay. Our turn came and, after being handled all day, the puppies were all exhausted and taking naps. Still cute but it was way too difficult to request any one in particular. We needed to submit the names of our requested puppy(s) on the application, and then wait for a call. We figured there was no way we would "make the cut" but I did get a call on the following Tuesday. We were told that, based on our application (we listed that we had a kitten at home) we would best be matched with one named "Agate". We would need to agree to that one in particular but that was not one that we asked for. Based on Agate's personality, he would most likely have the best chance in a home with a kitten. We were thrilled to get any of the six and certainly welcomed their recommendation. They were going to stop by and do a home inspection later in the week. We did the recommended shopping for the right food, toys, playpen, etc. and awaited our meeting. We knew from experience that they wanted no dog door, locks on all of the side gates, a good perimeter fence, a nice yard with grass and someone home most of the day. Not great to lock up a puppy all day while mom and dad are working. Hence some of the bad reviews. Hey, I get it. When the puppies are cute and close to pure bread, these places can afford to be picky. Anyone can go to a shelter and pick up a chihuahua or pit bull and will cost next to nothing. A cute, almost pure bread, puppy will require different rules and a higher adoption fee. This is not a for-profit enterprise but they do charge more where they can and use the extra funds to help defray costs of running their program. What they do here is amazing. For example, we were ready to adopt Agate right away but we could not bring him home for two more weeks while he was battling an ear infection. The foster family, who was housing and raising all six puppies, was making sure he was strong and healthy before placement, and not looking to turn a quick buck. Our adoption fee was $625 (I think) which was a lot more than a dog from a pound and a lot less than a pure bread puppy from a breeder. Agate, now called Oliver, is a lovable healthy adorable little guy and were are lucky to have him. The folks here are all amazing, caring volunteers and they run a wonderful service.
