I have to say it was fresh and the service was good and fast, the food was decent, and the restaurant is very cute, just not something to write home about. Anastasia will right away make you feel at home and serve you the best fish you'll try in London, or in England for that matter. Having visited various cities and restaurants in this country, I haven't found anything coming even close to Anastasia's place. The fish is fresh and made to perfection. You can choose fried or grilled. You can have chips (the quality is simply beyond words) or a fresh Greek salad that is simply delicious. All ingredients are of the outmost quality and freshness. This last visit I was very pleased to see that an inspector had come to check the place and granted them not only a five (highest rating for cleanliness) but he also went to the extent of congratulating them on their menu choices (see pictures attached). If you're looking for fish and chips, this is THE PLACE to visit.

However, today there was an extremely grumpy man behind the counter who when I asked him to recommend a good strong cheddar, simply said: "There are loads of Cheddars at the end, take your pick". Well, the reason I asked was to get an expert recommendation, not to simply pick one out of several by chance. There was no one else in the shop, so it wasn't as if they were over run with other customers. I will probably try this place again, but it has been a little soured for me!

The pastries and freshly baked goods are spread all over the counter in neat arrangements. Most of the cakes are displayed at the window and really make passerbyers salivate. The place is also family friendly with a change table across the toilet and toys around the eating area. On my first visit, I had one of the best hot chocolate I've ever had. The eggs benedict was a decent portion size and satisfying on a cold winter day. The day right after I couldn't help but go there again and had a generously filled smoked salmon crepe filled with cream cheese. Definitely will make this a local fav of mine!

I'm not sure I would mission it all the way over here for brunch or breakfast but I will say that I'd like to go again. I left with a chicken, roasted pepper, tomato chill sauce and cheese sandwich on Italian bread. All then toasted. More not sound like much, but it is amazing! I have also tried a tuna melt which wasn't as amazing and I now won't cheat on my original lunch choice! There are loads of options here - different bread, different toppings, hot or cold, small or large. They also have a fresh salad bar, a hot food counter, ice cream, cold drinks, crisps, little area that sells homemade cakes and biscuits and even a little area that has biscuits in tins and olives etc. You can take away or eat in for a little extra. Little tip - if you taking your sandwich away (this may apply to eating in too, but I've never done that) order your sandwich at the counter where they are making them, get a ticket then go and pay.

My friend didn't enjoy the turkey panini, but he has only recently started eating meat ... so I wouldn't read too much into his review yet :) The employees were very courteous and accommodating, although the service was somewhat inefficient. They seemed lost in thought occasionally. The combined bill for the five of us came to around £27 which I thought was very reasonable. I do want to visit Pumblechooks again.

Yes, parsley sauce is available; made with water, flour and parsley which is a little bland for my palate), you only talk to your companion when your plate is empty. Then, snap! You are back in Maureen's squarish dining canteen like room. pie and mash GBP 3.00 - The home made steak pie looks small, but the pastry is thin and crispy and the filling is real chunks of good quality beefsteak; very tasty indeed, the gravy glistening but not a put off, the mash is good and fresh. A good filling dish, especially if you add a portion of carrots or peas. sausage, mash and gravy GBP 3.10 - very ordinary. Service although casual was very friendly. Maureen's is a proper East End cafe that does not disappoint. I am proud to have an award winning pie and mash in the neighbourhood! Takeaway is available but whilst the dining room can be dreary, the local ambience is somewhat homely.
