Fortunately, we walked past Cafeteria Jackie's en route to the museum. The menu looked promising (mainly because the gringos in the group wanted hamburgers) and we decided to sit outside because the weather was so beautiful. It was the beginning of my second week in Vigo and I had not yet had seafood (bar mariscos). Blasphemy! In order to redeem myself, I ordered the merluza a la gallega. I'm a huge proponent of leisurely lunches, but when the rest of my table had received (and almost finished) their food and tables adjacent to us, who arrived after our group, received their food, I began to get a little cranky. Not to mention, I was hungry. My friend tried to reassure me that my merluza was coming straight from the port and that's why it was taking a little bit more time than expected. (I wish!) When my merluza arrived, I was very disappointed. My two cross-sections of fish (the fish is served steak-style) were of the boniest and most narrow part of the fish. After I was done carefully removing bones from the fish, there was hardly any fish to eat! So instead of enjoying fish, I filled up on potatoes in a sauce that was a lame excuse for anything "a la gallega" - the sauce wasn't even orange-y red. Prices were also a bit steep, save the menu of the day. I have another few weeks to find the merluza of my dreams, or at least a horizontal dictionary who can tell me where I should go.

On this trip I had peppers, steak, and desert to which my tummy said "thank you for the yummy food" two deserts I had were homemade and the peppers were amazingly tasteful. Makes me want to make them at home, but I'd still screw up and end up flying to Madrid just so I can come here! My suggestion is if your going to Vigo, Ribadavia, or Galicia, stop by here! Is not really a proper…read morerestaurant is more like a bar that used to serve wine and some tapas but ended converted in a restaurant by popular acclamation. They serve the most amazing lobster pot that I have never tried. It consist in a huge clay pot that contains one or two (depending on the number of people) whole lobsters cut into pieces and cooked with soggy rice. Amazing flavor! They also serve other typical dishes of the area like 'empanada de zamburinas' (scallops pasty) or 'pementos de padron' (spicy small peppers). I would recommend to anyone visiting Vigo to go to this place to have lunch. It is important to book.
