I grew up with access to chemical-free, unprocessed honey and am always on the lookout for it when I move to new cities. I was stunned to taste such a delicate, nuanced honey in urban Chicago. As it was a beautiful, sunny morning at a park in Chicago, it seemed the ideal time to figure out why it was so darn tasty! It turn out, that much of this has to do with the history of Chicago having feedlots. Anyway, I was blessed to learn this, and so much more, at the Chicago Honey Co-op booth at Green City Market. Did I mention that they happily recycle the jars if you bring them back? I have since been back twice to purchase more honey for myself, as well as for gifts, and every review remains 5 stars. It is always a pleasure to see them and I highly suggest checking out their services. I already know that allergy season next year will be a breeze for me! Chicago Honey Co-op does ship jars but I know that I will be stocking up at Green City Market. It is a blast to sample the new batches of honey, catch up with them, and also experience everything else that this fully organic and sustainable market has to offer!!

The main reason I wanted to submit a review of this store is due to wonderful customer service. I met Katie today and can immediately tell she knew her stuff. But the rock star of my first visit was Sharon. Talk about someone who is very kind, knowledgable, passionate, and extremely thorough with explaining in a way to allow you to make the best decision for your situation, she covers all bases. She provided names of other staff members to ask for on my next visit as she is only in the store a couple days a week. I saw the owner, also providing focused customer service to someone. People, please understand, doctors, especially new young doctors are not being trained to fix your medical issues, but only to provide medication to help you live with your health issues. My new doctor's office is a couple blocks from Southtown Health Foods and I know for a fact, after every doctor visit will be followed with a visit to Southtown. Although I came in to ask about sea moss and other herbs, I think I may also consider doing my grocery shopping here as well, and yes, try a smoothie on next visit. Any store can have a vast amount of product, but the knowledge and kind customer care is what will keep me coming back to Southtown from now on. Thank you Sharon and Southtown for a wonderful experience. May God continue to Bless all of you for doing his work.

Got lots of healthy things from this market in Beverly. It apparently has been around a long time…read moreso it's apparently popular enough with those who live around here. Southtown Health Foods has a pretty okay variety. Maybe is more expensive than it should be but the service is usually better than expected. They're known for the juice bar as well as produce and supplements. Coming here on a weekend isn't recommended because it's usually crazy. It's got pretty limited hours because it closes early. The only bad thing about it other than the high prices. Even so there were a few good finds. It's about $10 for a cup of the fresh juice which they make on site. Certainly it's excellent. The prices are just too much at times. You can find a few okay prices on vitamins. It's about $12 for certain supplements. There's also a pretty great selection of vegan items like pies and other things. Has a lot of things worth looking around for here. It's closed Sundays. There's lots of foods and supplements for vegans and vegetarians.

Boley Farm on 151st Street in Orland Park is now run by a new person who bought out the old operators, but he just seems to be getting up to speed and the selection wasn't as broad ... hence the search for a new stand ... and I think we found it in Just Picked. We stopped in at Just Picked on 171st Street in Tinley Park on a weekday and they had a very nice selection. We have driven by this place dozens of times over the years but never stopped in ... glad we did this time. While the selection looks relatively small as you drive by, once you stop in and look around you'll be more impressed with the variety and quality. This is an everyday kind of farm stand during the Summer and Fall, and the people running it were very nice. The owner (Tom) grows much of what is sold on his farm just outside Kankakee ... thus you get fresh, local-grown FFV everyday where the stock is refreshed daily. All the FFV ... and oftentimes flowers ... are presented outside under an awning ... the barn is for his work equipment and other stock. If you are in the market for a farm stand, you have to give this place a try.
