Excellent barbers in manchester city centre, very reasonable price at about 7.50 and I always get a consistently good haircut.

I'm pleased to be giving the Cornershop Barber Shop, its' first review in 2016 and only second in…read morethe past 12 months, and I'm pleased to announce, it is still quite a nice place to go for a haircut. As regular readers of my reviews will know, I'm with Jonny Q and Michael B on this one, I hate having my haircut done and hate the awkwardness of chit-chat with my barber, and just want to get in and out of a place, with minimal effort, this place is right by Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter, opposite the Old Koffeepot on the corner of Hilton Street. It is quite a nice place, and it charges £10 for a haircut which isn't bad considering I'm used to paying £15 at Supercuts and Kim-Creative.Com in the Arndale. The barber was nice enough, he wasn't as friendly as I've seen before at the other places listed above, but he did do a quick haircut, upon request at 6 minutes. Overall, the haircut was okay until he used the scissors, it felt like he went on for hours, being really heavy handed, cutting big chunks of hair with the scissors, and then banging the comb on my head near enough every-time, which shown hints of aggression and perhaps it being too rushed, this probably felt like the longest part of my haircut, even though looking back it was probably nothing more than 1/3 of the time taken, but if you would of told me that part of the haircut, took double what the whole haircut taken, I would have believe you. I got a decent haircut as well, which was much better than other cuts I have had before, but perhaps still not as good as Supercuts in the Manchester Arndale. It is also open on a Sunday between 12 and 6pm which is handy, and when I visited, it didn't seem really busy and I got seated and my haircut straight away. I noticed they did have a few newspapers on the table for people to look at while waiting. My search for a barbershop has been a long one, I've devoted a long list to find one on Yelp, I hope now my search is over. I hope this place doesn't suffer with "Second-time barber blues", I continue to get a lot so for now, I feel it only deserves a 3. UPDATE: I now feel Cornershop deserves a single one star rating mainly down to a huge decline in service and the overall finished haircut of late, the fact they don't do appointments and often leave you waiting with the staff not seeming overly friendly makes the situation worse also.

Anyone who regularly reads my reviews will know my constant battle to find a good haircut with…read moreminimal effort. Not only do I struggle with "barber talk" but the fact that it usually takes a good hour to get my pretty short hair cut makes me want to spend that time doing something much more fun. That usually results in me carrying what can only be described as a birds nest around on my head for a much more desired time period than is acceptable! But for no more - yesterday at the Barbers on Stevenson square opposite Koffee pot, I was in and out within 20 minutes, loved my new haircut and it only cost me £10. All the guys working there were pretty friendly and up for a chat about the local bar scene and that suits me just fine. If you're after a quick cut, walk in service then this place is just for you.

"Northern Quarter Barber" is probably one of the many barber shops in Manchester, this one in…read moreparticular, has reasonably cheap haircuts for the city centre, costing about £10, but still the service still was very poor, and made me feel, they were taking the mick, and not running a business at all. When I first arrived, the experience was quite pleasant, as it is quite a cool barbershop, with wallpaper of London and New York, in quiet a cool, colorful design, mainly consisting of yellow and orange, and they also did let me charge my phone, in one of the empty plug sockets at an unused barber point. The waiting situation in this shop confused me, in a negative way, they were 2 barbers working, however it seemed only one was cutting hair, and one was just either watching him or walking around the store, I understand training is a good idea, but he didn't even seem to be training him, and he just seemed to be useless being there, and he really should have been doing something, such as cutting someones hair as they was a reasonable queue, or at least offering drinks to waiting customers. My long wait for a barber took around 40 minutes, and that was basically for him to serve 2 people, meanwhile the other barber just sat and watched basically, hence after a time like this, I'd expect them to pick up the pace and at least get another barber on and offer me a beverage. After waiting a good amount of time, the barber took a break to have a cigarette, still with 3 people waiting, and I personally think this was taking the mick, he only asked the "next person", to the point where they basically had no choice and he was telling them, rather than asking them. I think it is basic common sense and customer service skills to have breaks, whether it be for food, drink, cigarettes or just to relax, when no customers are waiting, but he decided to do it, when they was a line of 3. When I finally got in the barber chair, the barber did seem nice, however he offered no apology for a wait, and neither did his friend, he told me about the origins of this barbers, with them originally coming from Israel, which I found interesting, and he did talk in arabic a reasonable amount, during my haircut to his friend. My haircut was quite a nice haircut, but compared to other ones I have had it was barely average, although towards the higher end of average, he did catch me a few times, being very heavy handed with his razor, at times he " hit me on the head with it " , and he wasn't very light handed with the scissors too, which for people which are "head-sensitive" like me, can be a little painful. Even though they was some minor positives, such as the haircut being reasonable, they did let me charge my phone and the barber being nice, I still feel like 1 star is the highest I can go for this barbers, with the main reasons being the very slow service and the "break" my barber took, the lack of an apology about the wait, incidents with the barber catching me, and simply the confusing, annoying and pointless nature of having another "barber" just walking around the salon, not helping out, when they is a lot he could have done, even if not cutting hair, to increase the customer experience.

BarberBarber is a small chain of male barbers in the UK, with 5 stores in London, Liverpool, Leeds…read more(Quite a pattern there), a new store which opened in August in Birmingham and of course this location here in Manchester, just off Deansgate in the Barton Arcade, so close to Market Street and part of the Manchester city centre, being basically just opposite the House of Fraser and being so close to Bella Italia, Pret A Manger and Lunya, the latter being also based in the Barton Arcade. One thing I dislike about this branch is a lack of appointments, meaning at any time you could obviously turn up and end up waiting hours on end, I had even been given waiting times of two or three hours at one point, and I've even been turned away at times when I'd expect them to be quiet, towards the end of the day before close when they're not. The staff don't seem really friendly at all, I've even seen staff go outside to smoke with customers waiting. It does look really nice here, and I've always wanted to call in for a haircut but I'm just sick and tired of the waiting, if they are used to this demand they should move somewhere else in Manchester, expand and get more staff as their is a demand for it and right now that is sacrificing levels of service and the overall feel, which are terrible I'm sorry to report that with regret BarberBarber deserves one star at this moment in time - I hate having my haircut and I hate being sat there in the chair for ages, let alone having to wait hours on end for a haircut which still is overpriced and one of the highest prices in Manchester at over £17 for a dry-cut meanwhile for some reason the branch in Leeds is 10% cheaper. From a service point of view, this branch needs to improve asap or this place is going to turn away and frustrate more and more customers and turn them to many of the rival barbers in Manchester city centre.

A well thought out and equally well executed barbershop. The no woman rule is kind of funny, but…read morekind of pointless. The free drinks is a nice touch although not really appropriate when I like to go in at 10am. The queue is ridiculous at times, even with all 4 chairs in full swing, an hour or more is common for a hair cut. This place is a modern classic - the guys are friendly and well trained, and the place is obviously clean and well run. The boom of lumberjack beards in Manchester doesn't do anything to help the queue time as once self-respecting men now debate which beard oil to opt for, or how thick to keep their sideburns. For a simple guy with a simple hair cut, I do love the attention to detail here, but not sure I'll keep returning for long if I have to commit half of my Saturday to waiting, for a 10 minute sit in the barber chair. Having said that, I really can't fault the place.
