If you enjoy looking for holiday decor all year this is your place. A Christmas Past sells a variety of holiday decor that appeals to everyone's taste and style. It is fun to browse and see how the trees are decorated and maybe find something you didn't know you needed.

The listing should mention that this shop is inside the Biltmore estate and a full day entrance ticket is required for entry.

Date of visit: September 18, 2024…read more Note: Receipts from all of the stores in this section of The Biltmore say "Carriage House," whether it was the Christmas shop, the confectionary, or the main location. This review is for all three just mentioned. For such a large and fancy house, I fully expected the items in the shop to all be ridiculously-priced, but was pleasantly surprised at the variety of price points that could be found here. Make no mistake, there is some expensive stuff here! But it isn't all crazy expensive, either. At the small Christmas store, RBLUHM was very nice and chatty with me as I browsed and as she handled my purchase. I found a very nice candle on sale to give as a gift and she did a great job packaging it up. At the confectionary, my only complaint was that the space is a bit too small to browse comfortably. That being said, staff was great as I stocked up on local food items to bring back for my team. The chocolates looked great, but I was concerned about them making the journey back home safely! The main store at the end of the building is really the showcase for Biltmore items, from the wines to clothing, and other souvenirs with several cash stations and welcoming staff. I snagged a bottle of wine made on site as a Christmas gift and some local preserves for my mom--jam is her jam!

This shop is the largest I saw aside from the Historic Village and was loaded with expensive goodies including clothing, decor, jewelry, and wines. They had a ton of cool and inventive wine accessories as well as nearly all the flavors from the Biltmore winery for sale. A large area had ladies clothing and accessories and they sell little collectibles and memory items from the trip to include postcards, magnets, bookmarks, water bottles, etc. It's a very nice shop and large and easy to navigate. It's well worth the stop if you're already at the restrooms and I saw some items here I hadn't seen in any of the previous shops to this point.

I talked to Wanda and I told her I needed a very special arrangement for a friend's daughter who is battling cancer. I told Wanda that this women's favorite color was red and I talked about something I saw on their website. However it wasn't their website it was one of these 1-800 numbers that don't do arrangements. As Wanda explained to me those companies, FTD, put pictures that look nice and when you call them, after taking your money, they in turn call businesses in the city where you want your flowers to come from and ask if they can make a bouquet like what you wanted. I don't know who makes all the money but I think it's the 1-800 companies. I was warned about this years ago from a friend who worked in a florist shop. Bottom line call Clements directly. The recipient said the bouquet was stunning and it was the nicest arrangement she had seen in years. Call Clements. They are great people.

For those of us who want QUALITY pieces of furniture and not necessarily looking for the "vintage" look... this is THE place to go. The furniture here is sold on consignment, but these ladies know which pieces to keep and sell and which pieces to say no to. Brand names like Lee, Henredon, Baker, Thomasville, Lane and even Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel at amazing prices and terrific shape. Admittedly, some of the pieces here are only a few years old (like 3-5 years) and come from people who like to change out their furniture (and can afford to) every few years or so... other pieces look like they have come from estate sales, that are definitely older pieces but have been kept in extremely great shape. You won't find furniture from Ikea here nor will you find items from any of those discount furniture stores either. The furniture sold here can be classified as tasteful, very gently used and super clean. Oh, and the owners (Sheila and Dana) are absolutely WONDERFUL. They are knowledgeable, fair and have great taste. I kid you not, very often, their selection covers a WIDE/BROAD spectrum; you can furnish a formal dining room, formal living room, family great room, guest room, rental homes or summer homes, man cave or dorm room. From classic to contemporary, the furniture and furniture accessories come from quality materials. Heed this advice from someone who just moved to Asheville and did over three months of research (prior to moving) on where to buy transitional furniture. I found more than what I had hoped for in this store... I consider the items I purchased here not to be just transitional pieces, but permanent pieces to build on. Make sure to come by often as their inventory and showroom floor changes almost daily. It's so much fun to come and see what's new. Thanks to Sheila I have completed furnishing the first floor of our 3,400 sq. ft home. You know I'll be back for more to finish furnishing the basement and second floor for sure :) Come one, come all, but don't take the furniture (and accessories) meant for me :)

The woman said she would check and then walked away and continued helping everyone else in the store but avoided us even as we stood by the couch we wanted to buy...was extremely awkward and very off putting. We won't be back to this place and I would go as far as to suggest if you're not a middle aged or elderly white woman then don't shop here because your business won't be appreciated or welcomed.
