I highly recommend James Place for your childcare needs. Their staff is professional, responsive,…read morecompetent and always very friendly. Originally, James Place was planned to be a good temporary fit before getting our child admitted to the YMCA. Our child stayed for 1 month at James Place before getting admitted into the YMCA. During that time, our child grew to make friends with other children and establish great rapport with James Place's staff. Our child "spoke" more and showed developmental progress. Clearly, our child flourished at James Place. When we eventually took our child to the YMCA, we quickly noticed that the YMCA simply does not compare. The security at James Place is better (locked front door with passcode entry), the staff/child ratio is higher and James Place has live streaming video cameras which allow viewing of your child from a laptop or smartphone. The YMCA lacks these attributes. Additionally, we noticed our child was sad, fussy and hungry when we picked our child up after work from the YMCA. In comparison; our child was always happy, well-fed and sleeping better when staying at James Place. We allowed our child to stay for one week at the YMCA before switching back to James Place. After that we begged James Place to take us back! They did, with caring and open arms. This felt good. Our child is happy again. Although James Place is only (slightly) more expensive than the YMCA, the peace of mind of knowing our child is in a safe, happy environment with a caring, top-notch childcare staff is PRICELESS. We're extremely happy they took us back! I can't say enough good things about James Place. I'm confident you'll be just as happy as I am with their services. :-)

BCLC is grounded in the belief that children are competent, curious, resourceful learners. The child's role in the classroom is to construct their knowledge and develop skills through exploration, self-expression, and collaboration with their teacher, parents and peers. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has recognized BCLC as an accredited early learning program since 1999. It is a true validation of the quality of the program and the dedication of the staff. The heart of NAEYC accreditation focuses on the child's experience. The process carefully considers all aspects of a program including health and safety, staffing, staff qualifications, and physical environment. The greatest emphasis is on the children's relationships with the staff and how the program helps each child grow and learn intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. Unlike other childcare facilities, BCLC calculates tuition on a sliding scale, based on a family's ability to pay. BCLC is the only Center in Whatcom County that offers this unique sliding scale program empowering parents to work and gain higher levels of education while providing essential early learning opportunities for their children.

Other places smelled of cigarette smoke, had toys piled in the corner about to collapse on the kids and fed potato chips to the kids in front of me ( not even trying to fake healthy). Leah gave the kids blueberries. Her place of business was clean. She was relaxed and always happy to see the kids. She didn't mind that for about the first month I stayed for about 45 minutes before I left my daughter (Im sure my daughter would have been fine if I left her but I wouldn't be ). My daughter went to her for 3.5 years and I think Leah only missed one unscheduled day due to an illness. She was very reliable. Her guidelines are clear and concise in writing so there are no surprises or misunderstandings which I really appreciated. My daughter never wanted to leave at the end of the day. I always took that as a good sign. My daughter hasn't gone to Leah's for a few years but we ran into her at Haggens and she was so excited to see my daughter. She talked to her for like ten minutes. She loves those kids and her job. I highly recommend Leah's Place Childcare.

My son was going to be enrolled once he was 8 weeks old, and I knew right off that a center wasn't where I wanted to take him. But I couldn't find any in home childcare facilities that I was comfortable with. I decided to look closer to my work and came across Leah's Place Childcare. We went to visit when my son was 5 weeks old. We went during her business hours so that we could see what the atmosphere was like when kids were there. Being that I was a first time mom and that my son was going to be very young when I enrolled him made me very nervous. But the minute I met Leah I knew we had found our childcare. The minute we walked in we were greeted with happy, excited kids. The first thing Leah did was remind the kids that they could look at my son, but no touching allowed since he was a baby. Then she promptly asked if she could hold him. As simple as this sounds, she was the first person to even acknowledge my son when we went for a visit. Everyone else just ignored him and went about their business. We stayed for about an hour and Leah was more than willing to answer all my questions. I felt very at ease when I left knowing that my son would be in good hands. When he started there Leah was wonderful. She didn't mind me calling 2 or 3 times a day just to check in and see how my son was. She also kept track of when and how much he ate, when she changed diapers, and whether they were wet or dirty. We have know been with Leah for 6 1/2 years, first with our son who was there until he started Kindergarten, and now she cares for our daughter who has also been there since 8 weeks old. I would not trust anyone else with my kids. Leah has a beautiful childcare area that gives the kids lots of room to play and learn. She does Preschool activities with all of them, and they are always doing arts and crafts. I would recommend Leah to anyone. She has become more like an aunt than a provider to my kids. We absolutely love her!

The space is on the 3rd floor of the recently remodeled Granary Building. There is nice bright lobby with reception desk that has been staffed I have been there. Check-in for class is pretty easy, there is an iPad on a stand where participants find their name and tap "check-in". A sign indicates what props will be needed for the class. Props are neatly stacked to the left after entering. The two bathrooms are always clean and are spacious. The yoga room is a simple hard wood space with windows to the north. I (male) have often been the only male in the class, but with the weather getting colder, the mix of participants has increased. I have enjoyed all the instructors, they are kind, helpful, and very good at leading classes. I have taken part in Gentle/Restorative, Hatha, and Vinyasa classes. The times work pretty well for me. There is usually a 7AM class, then 9:30AM, then noon. Those are the classes I have attended (my schedule has been flexible lately). Only once has my class been sold out, a Sunday AM Hatha class, 40 people fit in that room. I have had a number of teachers ask my name, that has been nice, adds a personal touch to attending classes. BYC has a lot of special events, too, I have not attended any, but it's good to know they are there when I am ready to give one a try.
