I was not notified about having to call in and neither front desk nor the owner gave me my money back. I have been waitlisted and still have not been called to this day. The only way I'd be back is to receive a refund and use it for the North Coast Academy business across the street.

They are an incredibly unorganized (unlicensed) childcare option and offered little to no training on child safety protocol for their staff, at summer camp the head teacher barely gave any instruction to kids and families on safety expectations and rules. Children were constantly getting hurt and the head teacher did little to provide appropriate consequences when my coworkers and I would bring incidents to her attention. I was one of the only teachers that would actually accompany kids to the bathroom, the head teacher would send 4 year olds to the bathroom out of sight by themselves every day and was shocked when I would go to accompany them with another camper to maintain ratio. She provided so little structure during the day that kids were completely under stimulated and their behavior problems that had been enabled throughout the school year were exacerbated in the summer. I felt like there was so little I could do to support my campers in a way that would be supported by the Firs. I have worked in childcare for many years and this is the worst place I've ever worked. Do not work here, do not send your kids here, their negligence is going to land them in a lawsuit some day. The homophobia too.....

American Girl Camp…read more Yes, you heard me right. A week long camp that allows your AG obsessed little one to share-no, FLAUNT her obsession for these strangely addicting dolls. They have daily activities focused on the different eras of the dolls and even a play at the end of the week that my little one was ecstatic about. The best part isn't just that the camp exists or even that it's super affordable, it's more that the kids actually have a BLAST and ::GASP:: always learn something in the process. Heidi, the director, is a kid-whisperer I'm pretty sure, she seems to be the human embodiment of a modern day Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. My daughter, a transplant from Seattle, was charmed immediately and had the best time ever at camp and now goes yearly. At the end of camp, she hovers around Heidi to tearfully say goodbye with thoughts of next year already in her head. The space is well laid out and perfect for learning and playing, the staff are always kind but firm and learning seems to happen around every activity they engage in. This is a small private school and unlike a public school they are not required to provide…read moreadditional resources to vulnerable populations such as ESL or special needs students. This, in combination with small class sizes, allows for a certain level of increased academic rigour. That being said, any of the legal provisions which protect students at a public school, such as rights to privacy and anti-bullying laws or teacher professionalism and credentials processes, do not have to be observed at this or any private school. At BCS in particular, these rules are not independently supported either. Furthermore, the school's administrator is punitive and capricious in his discipline tactics. He shows little regard for parent input, and is particularly dismissive of women in general. He is terse and stern with the older students, and often selects one or two students to malign as the class parriah. He does this in a very personal and calculated way. As an alumni of BCS as well as an educational professional who is invested in this community, I do not recommend this school.
