I'm torn as this could have easily been a five star review. I have used these folks a few times and they do great work. We recently needed new locks/knobs put on four doors. I called and was given a "quote" (not an "estimate") of roughly 195 (they actually gave a precise quote but I don't recall the exact amount off the top of my head). When the technician came to our house and did the work, he did a great job. But then I got the invoice and it was for $243.42. That's roughly a 20% difference. I called as I thought it might be a mistake and there was no willingness to make it right. When I called to book the service if they had advised it was an estimate or rough idea, I'd have no issue. But it was presented as a quote. A quote represents a fixed, agreed-upon price for a specific service or product. It's a formal offer that, when accepted, becomes legally binding. An estimate, on the other hand, is an approximation or a "guesstimate" of the likely cost of a project. It went from a great experience to leaving a sour taste. That 20% difference made me go from a lifelong, dedicated customer to a person who will shop around for locksmith services. read more

Nothing to complain about after 10 years of using their services. I've had three homes re-keyed by ab1 and they do the best job For the lowest prices. I've had maybe as much as 100 keys made by them and if I ever had a problem with any key they re cut it no questions. Also, I've had custom and import cars (with codes) and motorcycles re keyed by them with never a problem. One bike I had, nobody had the blank for, (antique Austrian motorcycle). but these guys found it and cut a perfect dupe. Also they have some great safes and installation service is top. I accidentally locked my keys in the trunk of my car and A B1 was the first place I called since someone recommended them to me. When I was explaining what happened, the man over the phone was kind of abrasive and I could hear his impatience because he kept asking if there was a switch or manual release in my car that could open the trunk. I tried to tell him yes but in order to get to it I need to get in my car which I could not do because the keys were in the trunk. Then he explained that if they attempted to get into my car and the trunk release was linked to the car battery, the alarm going off would lock us out from opening the trunk and then they would have to do some serious breaking to get into the trunk. This happened early in the morning and the technician was able to get over to where I was in about 20 minutes (their regular business hours had just started). At first they tried to use their hook to pop the lock but because of the design it was hard to get to it so instead they managed to reach down and grab the trunk release lever. Of course the alarm went off but the trunk opened and I was able to get my keys. For $40 and about 30 minutes of time, it was a pretty good deal. I was worried at first because of all the other horror stories I read about people waiting for hours and then their car had to be all smashed up to get in. read more

Had the worst experience. My husband left his keys in the mailbox, and someone took them. That was on Tuesday. We waited a day, hoping whoever took them would return them. Didn't happen. So we are pretty uptight about someone, probably from our neighborhood, having keys to our house. I called A B 1 and the soonest they could come was Friday. So on Friday I got a call from the dispatcher saying the technician was parked in front of our house. Except he wasn't... A very long series of phone calls between the dispatcher and me, and the dispatcher and the technician (who I'm told was the shop manager) took place. The guy kept saying he was in front of our house. That was simply not true. This went on and on. I opened the garage door and stood out in the cold for the better part of an hour waiting for this presumably lost locksmith, so I could flag him down when he passed. I finally had to call the dispatcher and tell him I was cancelling and would have to call another locksmith. We've had zillions of delivery people, painters, plumbers, and landscapers come to the house. No one has ever had a problem finding it. It could't be easier or more straightforward. I have to say the dispatcher was great. I think he was very embarrassed by this absurdity and being caught in the middle of it. The manager/technician probably just wanted to get off early on Friday afternoon, and instead of being professional and honest about it, he played me for a fool. The owner of AB1 should rethink who he's got managing his business... The result of this guy's little game is now we have to wait until Monday - another 2 days - to get our locks changed, so we have to spend the weekend hoping some stranger doesn't walk into our house. read more

This review is quite easy to write. The whole process to get a key was easy and painless and lasted all of two minutes. I simply gave the employee the keys I needed duplicates of, hung back for a couple and he came back with the two keys. The price was nearly $6 with tax for both---perhaps expensive---but I don't have much frame of reference here and hell, I'll pay extra to avoid stepping foot in a WalMart any day of the week. On Saturday, October 4th at 4:45pm, I called AB-1 Locksmiths and requested urgent service to open a locked home office that has no key. The gruff individual who answered the phone said that he would arrive to my house between 6pm and 7pm and open the lock for the fee of $95. I gave him my address and phone number and told him we would be waiting for him. At 7:30pm, I called and left a message, and again at 8:45pm and 10pm. My calls were not returned. On Sunday, October 5th, I called again at 8:30am and my call was not returned. When they finally called me at 9:30am (16 hours after my original call), the man on the phone was gruff once again, and barely apologetic. He seemed to be pained to say he was sorry. This experience demonstrated AB-1's lack of professionalism and customer service. read more

They gave me an affordable price estimate and an acceptable expected time to arrival, both were better than expected. The lock on our French doors were broken and I thought we might need new locks. I made an appointment with AB1. I was helped by Ramos a few weeks ago. He is very knowledgeable and professional. He carefully checked the locks and he was able to fix the problem without replacing a lock! He also replaced the other doorknob on the door so that it won't interfere with the screen door closing. I called AB1's emergency 24 hr lockout number on Thursday morning at 5:30 am. I operate a B&B and was locked out of my kitchen. I received a call back on Saturday morning at 11am. Terrible, surly, and incompetent. Maybe if you just need a key made, go here. Anything else- No! I called about removing a mortise lock, they asked for photos and I sent them. He said they would call. I called them twice, but no one there knew anything about that lock. I finally got it out and took it in, they thought it would be rekeyed that day. When it wasn't fixed by 3:30, I went in to pick it up, and they messed around for a half hour. Then I took it to Territorial Lock- they got it done before 5! Territorial saved me from a night alone with no front door lock. This little old lady is very grateful to Territorial, and mad at AB1. read more

I was in a real bind. No keys at all for my leased 2017 Jeep. I called every company available. The first one sounded drunk or asleep and believe it or not, the phone number on their site isn't 'clickable'. Imagine being stuck at night as a woman in the cold and having to actually find a pencil, find the number, write it down, take off your gloves, open the phone, tap out the number blah blah I mean HELLO? Incompetence is a pet peeve. :) I then called AB1 and spoke to the AMAZING Nathan for drove from PECOS to my home in Santa Fe late on a Tuesday night but not before finding and getting my 'special pin code' for the key. Listen, losing your keys, shelling out several hundred dollars after you've spent 9 years on your hands and knees in the SNOW searching for the lost key, dealing with lazy or non-empathic people is a definitive no go.
