We stopped by two beautiful vineyards for delicious wine tastings (Quinta Dos Castelares and Quinta Santa Julia) with a peaceful boat ride on the Douro River in between. The whole day lasted 9am to 6pm. Luis and Pedro did a wonderful job and made the trip seamless and memorable. They mentioned that they partner with different vineyards daily, so you could get other wonderful options for wine if you go on the tour with them. I…read morewas extremely jealous of people living in Porto, having access to such great fresh food of absolutely every sort, from dozens of different vendors. There's a large section for produce, which all looked fantastic, and I would absolutely be shopping from frequently if I didn't live thousands of miles away (though one vendor in that section also sold a bunch of different fresh-squeezed juice mixes by the glass as well as selling the fruit itself, for *way* cheaper than you'd find in the US, which went wonderfully with our food), then a separate large section for the more touristy packaged foods such as chocolates/candies, olive oils, hot sauces, tinned fish, etc. Those were definitely more tourist-priced, some of them felt quite overpriced, but some were also more reasonable. I did buy packaged food items from several vendors while I was there. (Honestly, I wish I'd brought back more different Portuguese tinned fish than I did. I did also love the hot sauce made with local aguardiente, that turned out to be just 100% high-proof aguardiente, infused with extra-spicy local peppers. Absolutely not complaining! Just funny, since US liquor laws would absolutely had something to say about them selling that product at a market like this.) Then, around the edges of the inside of the building, where they have full access to utilities and water and such, are quite a number of vendors for food for immediate consumption, as well as a number of fresh seafood/butcher shops. Obviously they varied wildly in both price and quality (one packaged sushi spot looked delicious, but was *quite* expensive, so we didn't try any; one of the two sandwich shops we got little sandwiches from, was *much* better than the other one), and mostly slightly more tourist-priced than the produce, but overall, pretty reasonable. I don't know how frequently vendors rotate in and out, but we had, possibly non-exhaustively (I didn't write everything down), a couple little sandwiches with great locally cured/smoked sandwich meat from one of the butcher shops, some great fancy grilled cheese (not the sandwich - cheese that had been grilled), obviously some tinned fish (samples, not purchased), and some truly wonderful empanadas (most notably, one made with wild boar!) We also took home some of the pre-packaged cured/smoked sandwich meat from one of the butchers, which I wish I had left with more of, as well (though we basically used up all our weight limit for the flight home, mostly on bottles of Port.) Definitely look around before buying anything for immediate consumption, though, as some places were a lot pricier than others, and there is definitely competition in a lot of product categories. Upstairs, they also have vendors selling non-food products, but we didn't shop there. We were here for the food! Also notably, unlike some similar markets we visited on our Iberian vacation, it also absolutely has more than *enough space* for the number of vendors and the number of visitors it gets, so it didn't feel cramped at any point, even though it was definitely well attended. Definitely recommended.

I did notice that there are a number of food tours going through this space. So it does have a level of that touristy feel. She stopped at various places to let us take photos, including Regua and Sabrosa (where explorer Magellan lived). She also kept reminding us to drink water and made sure we were comfortable on the windy roads. I also loved that she was a local from Gaia, around the area, and could share many personal stories and experiences about wine in the Douro area. Regarding the tour in general, the 7-seater van was clean, spacious and comfortable, with large windows on either side, and adequate A/C. The river cruise was relaxing, though I was hoping for some commentary from the captain instead of just the boat ride. It didn't hurt that the weather was perfect, sunny but breezy. An excellent value tour, and would definitely recommend to others!

It was very interesting The van picked us up near our AirBnb in the morning and dropped us there at day's end. This was a small tour group, only 8 people plus Luis. The Douro is a stunning area and all of the stops were really well done with locals introducing us to their oils and wines. The one hour boat ride was beautiful and the lunch at a local restaurant was good. Highly recommended!

I love that this tour is rain or shine and that they are very upfront about it. They are also very punctual. Part of our group was late, so our guide started the tour with my wife and me, and then another guide brought the other people to catch up a little later. They are also very accommodating to dietary needs or if you prefer an N/A beverage instead of wine (although there is a lot of good wine!). All of the spots were wonderful, and I really appreciated the market aspect of the tour. I just wish I had more time to go back. I would spend way too much money on all the amazing food there! This was the last part of our stay in Porto, which was nice, and we actually ended up eating at a spot (Popina) that my wife and I had dinner at the night before. Highly recommend and would definitely do it again or try one of their other tours.

The people are friendly and inviting. There is much history here with churches and cathedrals galore. The town is old but historical giving it its charm. There are much options for food from little mom-and-pop shops to fancy affairs. All offering authentic cuisine. Regardless of the choice, all are small and quaint so reservations are highly recommended especially at the mom-and-pops since locals eat there as well. As for sightseeing, I recommend walking about since the town is relatively small. Walk down the narrow streets and navigate your way around to soak in the culture. Go down to the rivers edge and take in the people and scene. Since I'm a foodie, looking for a good place to eat and having wine (or Port) or their local beer, Super Bock, took priority. The town appears to be going through a change as one local told me. Construction work can be seen throughout with cranes and scaffolding pretty much everywhere. There were lots of dilapidated buildings that were unoccupied and some were being renovated. Looks like the old is leaving awaiting the new to come. I think I may have experienced Porto while it was still in its infancy. I can't, or don't want to, imagine what it'll be like in 5 years as I definitely see this as a major tourist destination.
