Overall an incredibly bad experience that I wouldn't recommend unless you literally have a paint…read moreemergency and these guys are the only ones in town. You get what you pay for, I guess. I was surprised how low the quote was, but Chris - the estimator - was so nice and they provided plenty of reviews and guarantees that we just bit the bullet and went with CertaPro. Biggest mistake of our lives. We have hired many contractors in the past, but this is by far and away the worst experience we have ever had. The finished work looks good at the end of the day, but anything we pointed out (missed patch work, punctuality of the crew, the fact that the prep didn't live up to the guarantee presented with the contract), we were made to feel like we were being overly picky and critical. From the joint compound tracked all over our floors and stairs ("oh that's normal - gets on the shoes. We usually just scrape it off.") to the missed patchwork ("oh these guys are working close up all day. They can't see every little thing.") to the fact that they couldn't accurately estimate their time ("it's too cold in your house so the paint didn't dry.") We ultimately just gave up on expressing our extreme dissatisfaction in an effort to just get them out of our house. I work from home and lost several hours of productivity between the very loud workers to the multiple meetings with the crew to discuss the work. (As a side note, HUGE shout out to Chris and Paolo. The customer service ranking here is absolutely no reflection on them. They were fabulous.)

I had received Certa Pro mailers for awhile and after getting an outrageous bid I decided to try…read more Cert is not cheap but was considerably less than my other bids so I decided to try. The Certa Pro reps you deal with are great. Very communicative, punctual and great to work with. Thats where it ended. I am assuming your experience could vary depending on the crew they have do your job. They use outside painting crews that in my opinion don't share the same pride in quality work or customer experience the franchise does. The crew rushed through the job, did a crap prep job of scraping and proceeded to put 2 coats on back to back. They were done in 3 hours which means there was zero dry time in between coats. And don't tell me modern paint doesn't really need to dry much because thats bs. Now I will say that the Certa Reps are great, I explained the issues and they had the crew come back and did another coat while they then told me it was a third coat. The reps want you to have a great experience but they are only as good as the crew that you get. Honestly if the crew had show the slightest bit of concern for doing a great job I probably wouldn't be writing this. All they were concerned with was getting done as fast as possible and getting to another job. I heard the crew boss amidst multiple smoking breaks talking about getting to the next job. I mean even if they could have done the job that fast they could have at least waited and took lunch and then did a second coat and made it look like they cared about the job. Find a good solo painter or small crew that local with referrals, I will never use again.

We worked with O'Shea Builders for what would have been several small jobs. However, our primary…read morejob, a waterfall inside our house, turned out to be much more extensive than both we and O'Shea anticipated. Due to upper deck flashing that had been incorrectly installed by the prior owners, water had seeped into the walls and caused extensive damage. Jeff, the O'Shea foreman in charge, a contractor in his own right, and the person who did the vast bulk of the work, was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating of our needs, as well as professional and exacting in the work. He and Warren O'Shea, the owner, offered us several alternatives of varying prices in terms of how to deal with the issues involved, and gave us the pros and cons of each alternative. The damage was addressed extremely competently and thoroughly, and a significant rainfall that occurred within a week of the job being finished showed that our interior waterfall was now gone and that has been the case since the job was finished. The other jobs within the house, cited in our home inspection, were also addressed quickly and resolved beautifully. As a side note, I would like to address hiring contractors generally, having been through seven major jobs through the years. I got what I view as excellent advice from the first two contractors I worked with. The first advice was to be aware that no contractor can see behind walls (our house was almost 100-years old at that time,) and once they break through the walls, they have to deal with what's there - and that means that if, for example, electrical wiring isn't up to code, they are legally required to bring it up to code, and doing so almost always is going to add to the cost of the job. The second piece of advice was that our quote was very specifically based on what we'd told the contractor we wanted/needed and that *ANY* changes would likely result in additional costs, so we have always been extremely careful to know exactly what we wanted beforehand and to never have changed the scope of the job. In conclusion, we were more than satisfied with O'Shea and will certainly call on them for any future work. They are exceptional - as in great - to deal with on all levels.

My wife and I used O'Shea Builders LLC to work on our lake home in Standish, ME. Warren O'Shea bid…read moreapproximately $180,000 for the job. The final price came in over $300,000 and at the end of the job he chose to not complete the job. The work done was good, but his price was so far over what he quoted it made for a very unsatisfied customer. In addition he didn't finish the job when he said he would, which was sometime mid April to early May. He stopped working in early June and as I said before he chose not to complete the job leaving me kind of stranded. My suggestion when working with O'Shea Builders LLC is make him sign a contract where his price is his price, not this contractor mumbo jumbo excuse laden "Not my fault, man".
