Marty at Angelita's is rocking the smoothest, most balanced, long-enjoying, chocolatey, cold process, cold coffee I have had in a long time...and by long time, I mean, I'm a coffee roaster and I had some really good coffee Yesterday, back in San Francisco ... and to stumble across this careful, studious, mad scientist, meticulously light-roasting an amazing Brazilian bean from the Cerrado region...careful to not simply burn it like 90% of folks do, but hang wayyy back and let those complex fruit notes and spices survive the Texas heat AND humidity, and boom, in this music-lover's paradise of a room, quietly protected to perfection. I mean, it was delicious, no complaints here, but not at all what comes to mind when you think of a bagel! The rice and beans was exceptional. Aside from the weird texture of the matte/unglazed mug, the drink itself was phenomenal. Not too sweet. Warmed me right up! The cortado was fantastic. My trip to Brownsville (and my first coffee shop of the visit) was a letdown, so ending my trip on such a high note was exciting. I think I picked up a bright and fruity note, but it didn't have any of those funky notes that are typically associated with the more fruity beans. The consistency was like velvet, and overall it was a delicious cup. My parents each had a brown sugar latte and they both loved their drinks, too - down to the last drop! I'm excited to add 956 Coffee to my list of "must come back and visit!" shops whenever I find myself in Brownsville.

Sounds strange, but tastes great! We were a bit on the fence about trying it and the barista convinced us to go for it- I'm glad she did. It's not very sweet and the espresso is high quality so the drink is really tasty. It's hard to compare it to anything else so I would just recommend trying it if you enjoy the flavor of espresso but maybe don't like drinking it solo or with milk. The shop is very cute and great for photo ops while sipping on your latte. My partner ordered the cinnamon dolce latte with oat milk and I ordered the pour over. The latte was delicious and full of flavor, a little more on the sweeter side so if you're not a sweet tooth individual proceed with caution haha. Mom had the Lavender Latte, and I had a PSL and a cortado. The PSL is the best one I've had this year so far. It's warm, comforting, and layered in flavor. It was thicc, and gave an air of romance, if that makes any sense. The cortado was a LOT better than it was the last time I was here. Slightly bubbly but not foamy or yeasty looking, very smooth with a slight fruity and caramel tasting note. Excellent crema and consistency. Nerve Coffee, I was going to sing about your redemption arc but it turns out you were always pretty great.

It does have an inviting feel for me. Plus they actually do make cold brew, which is a procedure to make the coffee less acidic. It is slow dripped over long period of time, like other places like Starbucks that serve expresso on ice and call it cold brew. There is actually a reason to making cold brew coffee. It is made for those who love coffee but have acid reflux issues. Or want to prevent any stomach indigestion. They also sell vegan muffins of carrot cake flavor and banana bread.
