Sierra Dorada Arabians

Sierra Dorada Arabians

(1 review)

1/2/16 I received 2 Arabian horses from a man named Mike. He had purchased them 9/29/15 to be broke…read morefamily/novice/childrens riding horses. From what I gathered talking to Mike, his family needed gentle, family horses, not projects or anything that would test their riding capabilities. The horses he purchased were from Sierra Dorada Arabians. $4500 was paid for a 2007 gelding and a grade 2009 mare sold under the title "SD Saphira pending," although no registration application came with her or was filed. The seller, India Burke, insisted that he couldn't keep the horses there, even though they were next door neighbors. Upon speaking to her myself, she insisted it was a lawsuit waiting to happen because Mike owned an insurance company and she was sure he was out to get her (maybe if she sold him what he thought he was getting, she wouldn't have felt that way). She said that an injustice was occurring against her when Mike purchased the horses from her (why did she sell them to him in the first place?) and that he was going to corner her and sue her. Since India didn't want the horses at the Sierra Dorada Arabian facility, Mike took them to his new trainer's facility, who told them the horses were not broke and would take a long time to be suitable for novice riders and children. Since he was sold horses that he thought were trained, but were going to cost thousands to make safe for his family and grandchildren, Mike decided to cut his losses and re-home the horses. I received the horses, I contacted Inida Burke of Sierra Dorada Arabians LLC for the registration application on the mare. My only interest was the papers. She yelled insisting on the injustice that had been committed against her when Mike bought the horses and that she was sure he was going to corner her and sue her, which I never got the feeling from based on my conversations with Mike. I had to cut her short on the conversation because she ranted on for 30 minutes, despite the fact that I told her repeatedly that I didn't care about what happened between her and Mike and that the only thing I cared about was the horses and making sure they were properly documented. I told her that I didn't care about paying the $350 to file the paperwork, as long as the mare had them and could always be traced for who she was, in case she ever ended up in a bad situation. Also, you can't show or shouldn't breed unregistered horses (at least at any higher levels), so the papers were very important. All India could go on about were how terrible Mike was and how the trainer was terrible telling Mike the horses weren't appropriate and that she was not qualified to train Arabians because she (trainer does hunter/jumpers) didn't know who Shiela Varian was. All original documents declaring my ownership were scanned and sent to India. She declined meeting in person and said after were sent that she would send the registration application form via email. Once I sent paperwork, she told me I was a liar, forged the signatures, and had stolen the horses. I repeatedly tried to get back to the issue, getting registration signatures for the mare, which only could be completed by the breeder. She became verbally violent and badmouthed my business, ethics, said that the horses were surely depressed under my care, that I was throwing the mare away to my "secret group of friends for resale," and that I was misrepresenting the mare publically and badmouthing her business to which she was going to file suit against me. This was a lie. I have all documents declaring legal ownership and told her I would give the mare away without documents. I run a training business and regularly find horses that need time under saddle and give them what they need to be desirable to society. I sell the horses to recoup my costs, but I would hardly call it making a profit. After months of training, hauling out to events, feeding, $350 for registration, a couple hundred to make sure the horse is current on getting their teeth done, vaccinations, deworming, hoof care, etc. I have to charge something to even make it worth helping these horses. All on a 7 year old and 9 year old horse that should have been trained years ago. It is a big gamble. I have a great reputation, good clients, and a great history in my business, but rarely do I run across people as goofy as India Burke of Sierra Dorada Arabians LLC. At this time they are dispersing some of their herd. The horses are nice and are generally kind, but tread carefully when it comes to finding out how trained they really are or if you are going to actually get what you pay for if you want a registered horse! All I ever wanted was to contact the breeder to see if I could get a piece of paper and a signature... I have gotten a plethora of hate mail and threats and the one who really looses in the end is the horse... Not to mention Mike, who might as well have thrown $4500 out the window...
