While vacationing in Vermont, I needed a cheap large suitcase to bring home my shopping. I stumbled…read moreupon this charming thrift store on July 17, where the helpful staff (husband and wife) offered me a perfect-size suitcase they had been using for storage at a ridiculously low price. When I tried to pay more to support their worthy cause, they refused, so I had to buy more instead!I found a great selection of high-quality, brand-new Naot sandals, as well as some Nalgene water bottles. Then they gave me an additional 15% off my total (i had to chuckle that they were thwarting my effort to support the cause). Overall it was a wonderful reminder of small-town hospitality. Stop in for great values and genuinely lovely people.

We were camping and needed knives, which we found sharp steak knives with the butcher block knife holder for $4. I was looking forward to checking out Jason's Joy, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me…read more The business is advertised as a thrift store, but it felt much more like someone's personal collection with a storefront. The inventory was mostly heavily worn clothing, older furniture, and random odds and ends. We spent some time looking around but didn't find a single thing worth buying. The experience itself didn't help. There was a dog barking before we even came through the door. As we walked toward it, the dog was shut in a bathroom, and I overheard a comment suggesting it only reacted after seeing me. Since it had already been barking before I entered, that struck me as an odd and unnecessary thing to say. The front door was left wide open, and while browsing I was bitten by a flying insect inside the store. I ended up with welts afterward. I know bugs can happen anywhere, but it definitely wasn't something I expected while shopping indoors. The store also felt surprisingly loud and cramped. Between the barking dog, conversations carrying throughout the shop, and the tight layout, it wasn't a relaxing place to browse--even though we were the only customers there. What honestly surprised me most was seeing the near-perfect online ratings afterward. Everyone has different tastes, but based on my visit, I just don't understand the hype. I left empty-handed and with bug bites, which isn't exactly the thrift-store experience I was hoping for. I do wish the owners the best, but my visit was disappointing enough that I don't see myself returning.
