The way he spoke to me was disgusting -- he slowed down and talked to me as if I'm a two year old child, even though I'm fluent in English, have an American accent, and it's my first language. What made it even more disturbing was how warmly he treated the white customers who walked in right after me. The contrast was impossible to ignore. As a person of color, I was left questioning whether the hostility I received was rooted in something more than just bad service. For a place that prides itself on being an LGBT-friendly establishment, the way I was treated was genuinely shocking. The difference between how I was spoken to and how the white customers after me were treated was impossible to ignore. The first two are Club Lapello and The Barclay Club, who are owned by the same company while this one, as I understand it, is independent. Which should be a warning flag in of itself. Secondly, it's located in neighbourhood that looks ok, but it's in the basement of a building, and when you first come in the room looks pretty nice. But the girls look really bored on their phones and disinterest in almost everything. God help you though if you have to go to the bathroom. The floor tiles haven't been cleaned for years and the toilets have thick shit stains inside of them, making me wonder how much time a toilet has to be left like this for a shit stain to become this thick. Thirdly, the girls you take for a dance is like playing Russian roulette. You never know what will happen because this place is so unprofessional that it doesn't care about how the girls act and so they have free reign. The first one I took for a dance was a girl that took good care of me, was really fun to talk to and was fun to watch dance. She was even so generous to speak with me for a while without me paying her to, which she hinted shouldn't be allowed, but it made such an impression that I returned for a second time the day after.
