Had a great experience. Captain Keith was knowledgeable and showed the kids a great time and taught them a lot. Thank you

Matlacha Bat House Park - Restrooms at Bat House Park, Matlacha

    Matlacha Bat House Park

I agree with Karen T - this is an itty bitty park but it more than makes up for that with the…read morelocation that is adjacent to the Matlacha draw bridge. The view from here of the Matlacha Pass is fantastic. Because of the causeway, the fishing here looks to be pretty darned awesome since the fish are just going right past and you can pull 'em right out. There are only a small number of parking spaces and if they're full, you're SOL. Serious bummer because this is a pretty solid view. The park has some shady spots for fishing, restrooms and easy level ground that is completely wheelchair accessible. And no, I didn't see any bats today. This park is TINY. Located just past Matlacha Bridge on Pine Island Road. You'll find the park…read moreentrance on the south side. I counted 7 regular, 1 handicapped and 1 staff parking slot. Despite the size, this gem of a park has some great amenities and features. It's fully ADA accessible. It's location along Matlacha Pass makes it great for fishing. Of course, it's adjacent to the bridge, which is known as one of the world's most fishingest bridges. The park has restrooms with a covered porch and two benches. The big draw for me was the bat house. I wanted to learn more about the bats. The park has a great informational sign. I discovered: 1. The bats here are Brazilian Free-Tailed Bats and are found throughout most areas of Florida and 2: A single bat can eat up to 3000 insects a night.

    Bokeelia Fishing Pier

I was hoping there was some resemblance of what once existed here but that's not the case as of…read moreIndependence Day 2025. Although the rebuilding process continues there's not much left here after the devastating hurricanes, the public access fishing pier has been totally destroyed and the sea wall has been mostly destroyed, the sandy shell road is riddled with potholes and standing water and the businesses that were on the point are severely damaged, close and abandoned. There are signs that this place will recover, the sea wall sheet pilings are being installed from barges and land based cranes before the sand can be hauled in to fill the voids. It's apparent that the entire island has taken a beating with the collapsing buildings and uprooted trees scattered about but there's no doubt about the resiliency of the people that call this island home so the restoration will continue. There is still a small parking area that allows you to fish from the concrete sea wall that remains intact and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, hopefully the fishing pier construction will begin soon so the area can return even bigger and better than before. I hope to return here when everything is restored to give the 5 star review it deserves...

So sad to see the conditions of Matlacha and Bokeelia after these last two storms. I don't think…read morethe quaint little islands will ever be the same after Helene and Milton. Things were trying to get back to some sort of normalcy since Ian, but all the piers that were just rebuilt were destroyed. We love to go there and have breakfast at the Perfect Cup and the Getaway Place. A lot of cleaning up was going on, but the quaint little stores that made it through Ian are pretty much gone. This makes me really sad!
