I have had a terrible experience with one of the instructors from Irish School of motoring. During…read moreone of my classes, the ISM instructor got out of the car and started arguing with a cyclist. It raised to the point that he threw the cyclists phone and bicycle away. Not only this, but I have had scheduled classes and a test the following week. The instructor didn't bother to show up to any of them. I rang ISM and complained about this. They said they will resolve this issue and offer me a refund. It's been weeks now and I still haven't received my money back. The instructor is still on the road, teaching people. The Irish School of Motoring in Ranelagh is a professionally run service, offering driving lessons…read moreand pre-test lessons. You can choose to take the lessons in a car that they provide (€40 per hour), or in your own car (€2 cheaper). I had taken 6 private lessons with a private instructor that I found cheaply over the internet, and failed my first test. As the lessons had been pre-booked, I couldn't change instructor. Booking lessons through ISM means you can change tutor if you find the one you are with doesn't suit. I took 2 lessons with Sean in ISM before my second test, and passed with just one minor fault. He was clear and concise in his instructions, but I think he is very popular, so you may need to book a few days in advance. The only negative thing is the location of the school - amazingly they have no parking facilities. I had to chase the clampers away when I parked around the corner for 2 minutes to collect my instructor, and apparently people are given parking tickets here all the time.

It all comes down to instructors; my instructor for automatic lessons was great; pick up and drop off on time with improvement pointers and guided lessons based on what you need! And I hired them again during the driving test; I feel 125 euro for car hire with 1-2 lessons for the driving test is a bit steep but then every other school is expensive as well. They are a good school for learning lessons though.

I recently passed my driving test and genuinely could not have done it without Kevin's help.It was…read moremy third time to do the test and my first time to have lessons with Kevin. I had taken lessons from two previous instructors before i had sat the test on two previous occassions and did not find either of the instructors as professional, experienced or as helpful as Kevin.I had been driving for years and pisked up so many bad habits. Kevin immediately pin pointed the areas which required work and began focusing on them during each lesson. He covered off on each of the areas he felt I was particulary weak in and worked on them until I was comfortable with each individual area. My confidence was quite low having failed the test on twice before and I honestly thought I was going to fail the tes again. However, Kevins tactical approach, encouragement and guidance gave me the confidence I needed to pass the exam. His knowledge of the area and relaxed manner made everything so simple and his tips definitely worked. I would reccomend Kevin to anybody who wants to pass the test first time round. If I had found Kevin first time around I know that I would have passed the test on my first attempt. So on that note I want to say a HUGE thank you to Kevin and hope many new applicants awaiting confirmation of their test go to you Kevin. I promise you will NOT regret it. Claire from Kildare

I would highly recommend ABC School of Motoring. Gerry was such a pleasant and approachable…read moregentleman.

Brilliant, just brilliant!…read more His name is Gerry he is a friendly GAA mad man from Tipperary and he REALLY knows his driving. He has a perfect personality for teaching and makes even the most nervous of learners at ease and comfortable in his car. The great thing is he will come and meet you at your house or wherever you want to start your lesson and will drop you off wherever you want to finish up when your lesson is over. He knows the test inside out and is able to guide you through all maneouvers by constantly talking you through each small move that you make. This builds your confidence up so much which i think is invaluable to learning to drive. Gerry will take you for a course of lessons or one or two top up lessons and of course will look after you for your pre-test lessons. He is more than happy to accommodate your driving needs in anyway you can. He is a super friendly man too so he is very easy to get on with and ask questions from and no question sounds too stupid to ask when he is teaching you. One thing i love about learning in his car is the fact that it is a normal car (well it has the pedals on the passenger side too) but from the outside there is just an L plate no massive glowing triangles on the roof of the car or huge writing on the doors declaring that you are a learner (those types of signs might as well say , quick its a learner, beep as much as you can and get impatient!) This is a big plus for me! So, if your learning to drive and want an excellent instructor who really cares that you do well you should give Gerry a ring.
