Everyone speaks Portuguese but thankfully they did have an English menu. Don't let the small menu fool you or the lack of frills or modern decor. You will be served well and big! Even though we read that many dishes fed two people we wanted to try two mains and two sides. It could have easily fed a family of four! Giant prawns with shells in a mustard based curry. It sounds strange but tasted wonderful. Not spicy just flavorful. Then came the huge side of rice and beans for only €2. We did not expect so much. And it was delicious! Lastly we had tender stewed veal which came with a small salad and side of fries. Another big serve. All that plus a half liter of wine for €40. Incredible value and quality food. Felt like we were in someone's home.

The salmon in particular was cooked very well and was not too dry. The sardines were a bit salty as expected but very tasty. The satinfin shiner fish was very difficult to eat given its many bones. The octopus was also very tasty. We didn't know it was cash only ahead of time - that would've been nice for the waiter to tell us ahead of time (though his English was not very good, so it was understandable). There's an ATM close by down the street. Great value for what we ate though.

The chef is from Thailand, so the authentic Thai flavors do come out. We enjoyed every dish we got, and took the leftovers home for a late night snack. The only thing I would say is that I thought the spicy-ness scale can be ramped up a bit, but they brought by some fish sauce with chilis to add to our dishes that satisfied my spicy craving. Overall, absolutely worth the visit on your trip to Lisbon. This restaurant is now under new ownership and is a Thai restaurant!

If I had, I would've missed out on one of the best meals of my trip and honestly one of the best all around meals I have had in a very long time! Saraiva's was actually pretty empty upon entering on a Monday afternoon which seemed a bit unsettling but we took a chance. We were promptly and courteously seated, the menu expertly explained, and our orders place. The restaurant itself is very bright and well decorated inside and have very nice bathrooms. We felt completely at peace inside this space among the colorful glasses which adorned the tables. Now, to the important stuff. We were provided bread and butter, like one would receive in a normal restaurant, but this was on a whole other level. Leek butter, banana chips, banana focaccia, and flat seed bread, all fantastic. I was honestly amazed when I tried each item both on their own and with the butter spread atop. This was also complimentary! For our starters we orders a creamy vegetable soup which I only tried a spoon of but which was good and pork jawl toast. The pork jawl toast, oh my gosh! If you want an explosion of pork, salt, fat, and succulence, try this dish! It is small land I was disappointed at first but these four small pieces are all you need! I felt like I needed a nap afterwards but then came our main courses. My mother got pistachio crusted chicken breast with beet rice and I got pork loin with mushrooms, onions, potatoes, and bak choy. Both were very tasty but I preferred mine. I must have been on a pork kick that afternoon! Everything was cooked to perfection and the mushrooms in my pork dish were to die for and were the star for me. Along with the food, the service was stunning. Very attentive, very friendly, kind, patient, and professional. Do yourself a favor and eat here! We had a very hectic and busy day in Lisbon and this hour was just a joy and one of our highlights!

Like most restaurants in Portugal you start with bread, cheese, and olives. The cheese was very smooth and the olives tasted fresh. I opted for the chicken plate and it wasn't too heavy but was jam packed with flavor. Service was pretty solid here despite the language barrier and I definitely would recommend Tascardoso to those who are nearby the area for an authentic Portuguese meal!

Everything from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. For my meal, I went with Açorda de Camarão, which is a bread porridge with shrimp. I jokingly referred to this dish as "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) The blend of flavors and seasonings was absolutely amazing. While eating the dish, I told my partner that I could eat this dish everyday and even twice on Sunday. In fact, the next day when were having having some trouble deciding on a place to have dinner, I was like let's go back to the place that has "Portuguese shrimp and grits". ;) If you are hungry, this is the place for you because the portions were huge for the price. After eating my Açorda de Camarão for lunch, I wasn't hungry again until well into the late evening - even after walking around Lisbon for most of the day. Another delicious part of our lunch - the grilled octopus. In my opinion, the octopus was perfectly grilled and seasoned with a chewy, but not too chewy, texture. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially considering the restaurant is located in a very touristy part of town. The restaurant has a nice outdoor dining area where you can enjoy your delicious food and wine while enjoying the hustle and bustle of Lisbon. I thought service was fine. Although our waiter was not the friendlies of characters, he wasn't flat out rude. When I visit Lisbon again, this restaurant (in particular the Açorda de Camarão) will definately be on my "must do" list.
