Take your dog - the ferry's dog friendly, as is the concert. The Algiers Economic Development Assoc. coordinates the weekly shows, which are sponsored by various local businesses. They're often at the ferry landing, but they can also be elsewhere within walking distance. They have great local musicians, and it's more laid back and less see-and-be-seen than the sister Wednesday concerts in the middle of the big-lawyer-buildings at Lafayette Square. (Wed. at the Square is still cool too - it's just gotten so big. And crowded. And professionals-talking-the-talk-and-networking. It's hard to find and meet up with your friends and just hang out any more.) Also, Algier's Point is just cute, and worth the boat trip to ride your bike around or take your dog for a walk.

The Mardi Gras exhibit was fun! There were photos and items from Mardi Gras in the past, the crowns and scepters from Mardi Gras queens and kings, and even a Mardi Gras float! I learned so much about it - - there is even a pet Mardi Gras parade! The hurricane Katrina exhibit was fantastic. There were video clips people who were there and experienced it that even brought tears to my eyes. I was so engrossed and literally had to be kicked out because they were closing. There is a hurricane booth, where you can go in and shut the door and it simulates a hurricane. We had a good laugh at our hair after that! Entry was very affordable and definitely worth it. This museum is located right in Jackson square in the French Quarter, so it couldn't be located any better.

First floor is a documentary about 2005 Hurricane Katrina which caused $200 billion dollars damage in todays dollars, the most costly natural disaster in American History until the 2025 LA fires, which caused $275 billion dollars damage. While I spent a lot of time checking out the Katrina exhibits, it was already well documented on the internet. Did like interactive exhibits depicting the personal stories of people struggling to survive the hurricane. The second floor had exhibits of Mardi Gras throughout history, along with dozens of parade floats, and extravagant costumes. Interesting watching historical photos of time in the past of New Orleans. I've been to New Orleans at least 5 times , but have never found timeshare openings in February and March, the time Mardi Gras is held. Even today 20 years later there are signs of the hurricane with block after block of empty lots in the 9th ward. Not a place you want to be after dark. $6 for seniors and $7 for adults under 65. You're going to pay more for parking.

Then, I remembered and did a little of that hot search engine action and oh my goodness, I am so very glad I did. I made a reservation on the website (reservations are highly recommended, though you may get lucky and they might have space) for a Thursday evening "Season of Light" show. Amazing. The gal working was so very excited about it. She also mentioned other shows they have going on. The library was very neat and clean, and the employees are very friendly. The planetarium changes its shows monthly. I look forward to coming back and seeing other shows.

We happened to travel to New Orleans on the weekend of Bayou Boogaloo, so I thought it would be fun…read moreto check out a local festival. It was a lot smaller than we expected, but there were a good number of food and drinks tents, live music, comedy shows, drag bingo, and local arts & crafts vendors. I was jealous seeing all the locals with their kayaks, floaties, and barges! It looked so fun, and I definitely had FOMO. But we got some amazing watermelon fruit juice, played Drag Bingo with Katrina Waters who had great energy, picked up some art prints from a local artist, and listened to some music. A great day was had!

Super cute sugar museum, funded in part by the nearby Domino Sugar Factory, in a renovated jail…read morehouse, the first in the area, gives a partially white washed history of the sugar plantations and refinery in the area. There are photos, a historical timeline, in chronological order, from left to right. I am very confident that the basic facts are true. I just wonder what is missing. The nearby factory is the second largest in the world, and the first employer to start back after the area was beaten by Hurricane Katrina. They have done a lot for this area. The museum is run by the St Bernard Parish department of tourism, and is only accessed by an employee at the nearby tourism board. They are more than happy to let you in, walk around and explain everything to you. It is run off donations, which is cool. Come down and take a look around. You will not regret it. They have done a great job restoring the jailhouse and still have a replica of a cell inside. Parking is street parking. There are no restrooms in this building. This is a great thing to do that I think most kids 10 years and older will even appreciate. There is a lot of reading material to cover. I am glad to have taken the time to come and visit.
