I used 30A Vet for my 2 dogs prior to Dr Kelly Brawner's purchase of the practice and continued after she bought the practice. She refused an emergency appointment for my dying dog on a Monday during normal business hours after canceling a scheduled appointment the previous Friday. When I made it clear my dog was dying and it was an emergency I was told to call another vet. Unable to get treatment from any other local veterinarian, my dog died a painful death on my living room floor. Dr Kelly Brawner had her office manager call me to apologize. She informed me that I wasn't the only one who was refused emergency treatment. I informed the manager that I would appreciate a call from Dr Kelly Brawner. Our experience with 30AVet was unprofessional and disappointing. We arrived for our scheduled appointment only to wait 45 minutes to be seen. We were told that the delay was due to a staff member not showing up that day. Yet, lack of staff didn't keep the staff in the office from spending plenty of time eating cookies and donuts from the x-Ray table in full view of the waiting room. Once in the exam room - the vet quickly examined my dogs and they were taken back to another area for their shots. As the visit seemed to be winding down, I asked if the vet was going to come in to talk to us. I was informed that the vet had already left the office to pick her child up from school. during the visit, I had authorized bloodwork for my elderly pup. Before we received results from the bloodwork, my older pup got sick. We were in Louisiana so we took her to our regular vet where she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. This was a full week after our visit with 30A Vet. It took me another 3 days or so to get a call back from 30A about the results from the bloodwork they had drawn. The call came around 7:00 p.m. on the Tuesday 10 days after our visit. The vet did not call but the tech called and informed me that they believed my pup has Cushings Disease and needs additional testing (about $500-600 worth) to be sure. I received a copy of the results and noticed that they had not even sent the request for processing bloodwork until the Tuesday after our visit. I still do not know why it took another week to contact us with the results. I spoke with our long-time vet about the findings. She did not recommend additional testing and felt confident that the course of treatment we'd begun was best to continue. I also spoke with Dr. Brawner at 30A about my frustration. She agreed to refund the cost of the bloodwork. When I was transferred to the vet tech to provide info related to sharing shot records with our Louisiana vet, I asked the tech if she needed info from me to process the refund that I had just discussed with the doctor. The tech was rude and gave me pushback. I suggested that she ask the vet to confirm. Eventually, she agreed to process the refund. We thought that was the end of the matter and then the vet called me around 8:30 that evening. She was insistent that we test our pup for Cushings even if with another vet. Then she berated me for challenging her tech. Truly do not know what she's referring to as the only person who was rude the day of the callback was the tech. When the tech gave me pushback - I explained that the refund was because the bloodwork wasn't useful. She scolded me saying that "bloodwork is always useful". I simply responded that it wasn't useful if not timely. I cannot in good conscience recommend this vet. I will continue my search for a local vet. read more

I did not appreciate AT ALL how they treated my dog. They required me to bring him in first thing in the morning and then kept him crated (a dog who is NOT USED TO BEING CRATED) LITERALLY FOR HOURS and HOURS, for a treatment that took only about 30 minutes. Other vets have done the service as soon as I brought him in and then I picked him up a short time after. Also, while he was sedated for the procedure, they were SUPPOSED TO DO MULTIPLE OTHER GROOMING services AND THEY FAILED TO DO THAT too. VERY unprofessional. read more

I arrived at topsail state park for vacation and as we pulled in our 13 year old dachshund had a seizure. The veterinarian here met me at the door after taking my hysterical phone call. She was the most compassionate, sweet person as was all of the staff. Unfortunately we had to make the horrible decision to let our little guy go as he was 13 and already had been diagnosed with cancer. This office was so wonderful. We traveled from Chicago and discovered our Elvis had an infection and blood in his urine. He has special needs due to recovering from meningitis. The staff here is top notch! We couldn't have asked for a better experience during the beginning of our vacation. They took care to prescribe medicine that will not complicate his immuno illness, saw us the day I called, and read through Elvis's extensive health records- so thorough! Leaving poor reviews is something that I rarely like to do, but in this case, I feel it is warranted. I've been to 30A Vet on two occasions. Living close by, I was so excited to find a vet in my neighborhood! I was surprised to find the office so small, but hey, it is 30A! No big deal. After arriving 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment time, my pup and I were immediately escorted back to an examination room. I was thrilled for such prompt service. (At the time, I noticed that we were the only clients there. Great for me, as I had lots to do that day)! That ended up not being the case. We waited in this small room, with paper thin walls, listening to the staff loudly joking around like high school girls!Waiting...hoping that the next conversation I heard would be about my dog, and bring the Veterinarian into our room! The floors are concrete, and every few minutes, my dog would have to readjust, struggling to lift herself and gain traction each time. Not easy for an elderly animal. Never did anyone check in on us to let me know when we would be seen. After walking out of our confined space to see if I'd been forgotten, I was told the doctor would be in to see me in a few minutes (it had already been 45 minutes)! It was an hour and fifteen minutes before the vet graced us with her presence! She briskly apologized and quickly examined my pet, ordered multiple blood tests (which were repeated twice more at hundreds of dollars), only to find nothing! The second time we went in, as a follow-up, we once again went through the same scenario, only this time, we waited for an hour and 45 minutes! Another brisk apology and NO examination! This time, it was suggested we send another specimen out to pathology, now for a condition that was totally unrelated to the last and another $140! After much concern and cash the last time, only to find that all bloodwork was normal, I refused. Leaving with an antibiotic, I was told to return in two weeks for yet another follow up. Not this time! I will find a Vet that respects my time and appreciates my trusting my best friend to her care! Feeling that both my time and love for my pet were taken advantage of, I will not return for a third time!! Professionalism and mutual respect seems to be greatly lacking at 30A Vet. UPDATE: I stand by my review on all issues stated. Regarding excessive testing, the new Vet that I am now seeing has reviewed all records and agrees that the additional testing was not necessary. Furthermore, I had asked to talk to the doctor at the follow up visit. That should have been communicated prior to my visit. Having a 12 + year old dog, I am more than familiar with testing protocols. My long experience with multiple Vet care (as I travel for work) has given me a standard of expectations that 30A Vet did not meet. I do hope that this review will improve the experience of future clients. read more

Our miniature schnauzer woke up sick while we were vacationing in SanDestin. We were scared and needed to get her into a clinic quickly. After calling several vet clinics, we fortunately found 30a Vet. They told us to bring her in immediately, and one of the vet techs met us at the door to take her. Within minutes, the Vet came out to talk to us about her treatment plan. She was thorough, kind, and even offered to keep our puppy for monitoring if we didn't feel comfortable taking her back home right away. I can't say enough great things about the staff at 30a Vet! What a fantastic Veterinary Clinic this is! Their attention to care and treatment of our furry family members has been nothing short of exceptional. Dr. T and the staff saved our kitty from dying from an unexpected infection. Not only were they intuitive about diagnosing her situation, but the round the clock care and monitoring went way beyond any experience we have ever had with a vet. Although 30A Vet is not the least expensive, there is a reason for the expression "you get what you pay for." We have also been grateful for the additional healthcare services that other vets don't do including pet dentistry and senior care so that we can have our babies for their longest life. We were very impressed with the way we were greeted and the cleanliness of the office. Dr. Smith and the staff listen closely to our concerns with much compassion. Dr. Smith went over the CBC and Chem labs line by line and did a very thorough clinical exam. We felt the diagnosis and treatment was valid and the fees were very reasonable. There was a follow up phone call from Dr. Smith regarding Max's progress the next morning. On Spring Break with our 2 dogs, one with a blood disorder. Needed to get a blood test done to check on levels. Went over results with us, conferred with our 2 vets at home and shared the options that all the doctors thought were best. Unfortunately the results were dire and had to make a tough decision. I've been taking my cat to 30a vet since we moved here in 2015. Loved it, loved Dr Tonya, loved the staff. Dr T sold it a few yrs back. It was fine at first, while Dr Brawner was there full time. I'm not sure what happened, besides Dr B taking leave to have a baby, but since she doesn't appear to be very active anymore, if at all, it's gone downhill. We haven't seen her for quite a while now. I've requested, on a number of occasions, that they investigate my cat's apparent nervous/anxiety condition (which I diagnosed myself, online) with promises to get back to me...and nada. They didn't even know the condition to which I was referring, which I find very strange - it took me about 10 min to find it on the internet...maybe less. They then wanted me to record him when these spastic-like "fits" happened, which is completely impossible, since they happen totally spontaneously and only last about 5 seconds. But yeah, let me grab my phone, unlock it, and turn on the camera to video...smh. I would classify them as somewhat incompetent. Currently looking for a new vet...I miss Dr T...and Dr B. read more

First time visiting 30A Vet. Came in for annual shots and blood work for our family dog. The staff was so pleasant and knowledgeable. We arrived early, we played on the grassy field across the street and they texted us when they were ready. Everything was accomplished in a private room with a cozy bench for us to sit on (including checkout). We have 4 animals (two cats and two dogs) and it seems there is always something that they get into. Her office is so convenient to 30A and most of Santa Rosa Beach/Destin. Dr. T was my vet in Atlanta many years ago and we couldn't have been more thrilled when she moved her practice here! She's extremely honest and will tell you what you really need without any extra unnecessary (and sometimes very costly) tests or labwork. I'm a Vet from Atlanta on vacation with my 4 Goldens and unfortunately, as luck would have it, was in need of a great Vet in the area. My oldest Golden had developed a large hotspot that the owner/groomer at Shabby to Chic was grooming and shaving the hotspot for me. The groomer gave me a list of the local vets without bias and I went to the closest....Dr. Tonia Shatzel at 30A Vet. Both my wife and I were immediately impressed with the facility and the staff. Everyone was kind, happy, and super-friendly. I was there to ask a big favor that I knew would be a challenge back in Atlanta but Dr. S was so kind, empathetic, and giving. She helped me with all the meds that I needed to take care of Gracie and showed me here hospital. After owning a large hospital in Atlanta for 35 years I have to say I was more than impressed. She has all the latest and greatest equipment to handle just about everything imaginable. What I've learned is that what counts the most is a doctor's bedside manner and the support of his/her staff.
