This weekend was going to be the first time I ever went to Mount Poconos. We only had half a day on…read moreour hands and horseback riding was one of the things I was dying to do. A short google search later, we found Daisy Field Farms and spoke to the owner who was kind enough to find us a slot that matched our schedule. We even got 20mins late while getting there because our GPS totally screwed us over, but they were kind enough to wait and immediately got us horses when we got there. I got Stella who was a beautiful big horse, strong and obedient. We trotted with our horses in a single file over a small hill/mountain. I don't know what to call it, only trust me when I say this IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. The farm looks like it's come out of the pages of an adorable old school english farm illustration. There are wagons here and there, Dumbo the dog is super friendly, there are goats you can feed, and rabbits too. During the one hour ride, you're taken up and down and around a mountain, through forests and fields and by small lakes. It was a gorgeous day when we went and everything looked 10times prettier. The couple who run this place are super nice and the horses look very well taken care of. Summer vacations are on and their three adorable little grandsons were helping around the farm too. I was positively jealous and swear I never wanted to leave. I'll be back again for sure, this place just made me so so happy!

Behind the greenhouse, we had a delightful time listening to our instructors who clearly have worked side by side at the farm. Educational facts about herbs with a sprinkling of humor began the event. It is so wonderful to attend a class where they share their knowledge about the herbs and their uses. They give you salient advice that helps you decide on which herbs fit the taste profile you enjoy so you build your herb pot on what fits you. Then to top it all off they gave us a handout that covered trimming, drying and pairing herbs as well as a few recipes! A wonderful experience! Thank you for making my Mother's day extra special!

It's clear how much she and her husband, Ben love and care for every single animal there. The hands-on experience was the highlight for me. I loved getting to feed the gentle horses, alpacas, pigs, goats, donkeys, turkeys, peacocks, sheep and more. The personal interaction with the animals was amazing. The animals seemed happy, healthy, and very used to human interaction, which speaks volumes about the ranch's welfare standards. Not only did I get to help with the animal chores, Kathryn is also very environmentally conscious as we composted, recycled or re-purposed everything at the ranch. It was a joy helping and I highly recommend making an appointment for an experience. It is also a great place to volunteer if you love animals, Kathryn is a remarkable woman. Kathryn not only loves the animals, she is knowledgeable and kind. I learned so much about the different rescue animals and the conservation efforts the ranch supports. The entire property is beautiful with spectacular views. If you're an animal lover or looking for a unique, educational day trip with the family, I cannot recommend Gress Mountain Ranch enough. From giving a snack to Buddy the friendly vocal sheep, to bottle feeding the adorable baby goats, my visit to Rose Bridge Farm was a great escape from the noise and commotion going on in the outside world. It is well worth making a reservation on the website to visit. There are also special activities to sign up for ranging from making a succulent "wall" to hiking with the lovely hiking goats in Wissahickon Park. Some yoga with the baby goats also sounds like a real treat and challenge to try one day.
