Huge outdoor patio with fire pits and then cornhole. There's a huge indoor game room, with Scrabble on the wall and all sorts of boardgames. There's a bar with three TVs showing regional sports whenever possible.
The menu is my idea of perfect: innovative and creative recipes, and not too many of them. I don't need an overwhelming menu or a kitchen thing. Just do a few things well. That's the. Periodic Table.
For dinner last night, I had the Costa Rican mahi street taco for $12. These were two well stuffed tacos - the taco shells were more like naan, which was delicious- filled with fresh fish, sweet corn salsa, and drizzled with dill sour cream. Other tacos include Korean beef, Indian butter chicken, bánh mì spicy pork, and black beans in a balsamic glaze. A trip around the world in a taco in the middle of Iowa!
My companion had a Buddha bowl with black beans, brown rice, pico de gallo and avocado. You could also get a linguine bowl with marinara, cream and wild mushrooms, and the option to add chicken, or a Japanese noodle bowl in which you could add a flat iron steak.
We shared a StoneFire pizza for $10. Ours came with Kansas City BBQ, including pulled pork and red onion. Out of this world.
I had a five dollar Mojito mocktail that was so refreshing. They've got a great cocktail selection for nine dollars each, $10 for the classic cocktails, but they'll make the mocktails for five bucks which so rarely see and really appreciate.
We went over the top for dessert and head a s'more's pizza. Really fun and tasty. I was tempted to get the chocolate fondue but that just sounded like it was too much! Might've done it if we had a few more people.
This is definitely in the top three restaurants in Grinnell but I just can't believe it wasn't getting more love on Yelp! It is in the fabulous Hotel Grinnell, but it is definitely not your standard Hotel fare.Check it out!
