I was referred to this shop by my mother, so I arrived with positive expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was highly unprofessional and fell far below reasonable standards. Prior to my visit, I called and spoke with Stephanie to confirm they accepted walk-ins. I clearly described the style I wanted large knotless boho braids and she quoted me a price of $125. When I asked whether I needed to bring my own curly hair, she informed me that the salon provides curly hair for $75, or I could bring my own. I chose to bring my own curly hair based on that information. I also asked about the price for a wash and blow dry, and she quoted me $45. The only detail not discussed during our call was the braid length, but even considering that, nothing justified the final amount I was charged. When I arrived, I never saw Stephanie, and the stylist who was originally supposed to do my hair, Jackie, never showed up. Instead, two other young stylists worked on my hair. At no point did anyone communicate any change in pricing or mention additional costs. I am a very professional person and did not argue with anyone. I even tipped both stylists $20 each before they finished, and I had no issue doing so. However, when it was time to check out, I was shocked to learn that my total was $405 three times the price I had been quoted. The style was absolutely not worth $405, especially considering I brought my own curly hair. Afterward, I called Stephanie to explain what happened. She denied ever quoting me a price, which I found dismissive, unprofessional, and extremely disappointing. For anyone considering this establishment: * Get your price in writing or confirmed clearly before any service begins. * The environment lacks ambience no music, no atmosphere and the shop is not clean, which was surprising given its long-standing history. * Two different stylists may work on your braids without explanation. * The braiding is very heavy-handed--I am used to it, but others may not be comfortable with that. Overall, the experience was unorganized, misleading, and did not reflect professional standards. For a shop that has reportedly been in business for 15 years, the lack of cleanliness, communication, and ambience was extremely disappointing. I cannot recommend this salon and will not be returning. read more

I lost more than half of my hair from this shop. This was my first -- and absolutely last -- time coming to this location (not the one on Mack Rd). My husband and daughter had good experiences at the Mack Rd shop, so I figured I'd give this one a try. Big mistake. When I walked in, every employee looked at me but didn't say a single word -- no greeting, no smile, just awkward stares. After standing there for over a minute, someone finally asked if I had an appointment and called someone from the back to get me. Still, not a single smile or "hello." The energy in the shop was cold and uncomfortable from the start. Then something really stuck with me: While I was getting my hair blow-dried, my husband came in to drop something off to me -- and suddenly, the whole energy in the room changed. Every employee greeted him, smiling from ear to ear. Even the braider who had barely spoken to me started talking to him. As soon as he left, all the smiles and fake kindness disappeared, and the same negative energy returned. It was very clear who they chose to be friendly with. As my hair was being washed, I also noticed packets of Jack in the Box mayonnaise sitting on the same tray as the shampoo, brushes, and other products being used on me. This is not only unsanitary and against state board regulations, but it made me wonder: was that actually going into people's hair? Why is food even in the work area? Once in the chair, they asked what size braids I wanted, and I clearly said medium. They ended up doing small braids, without asking or confirming -- and charged me small braid pricing. I also told them I'd been bleaching my hair and asked if they could go easy on the tension. I've been getting braids my whole life, and I've never had anyone braid this tight. Two people were working on me, and I was still there for almost 10 hours. The next day, I had painful bumps all over my scalp -- not just in a few areas, but everywhere. It took 2-3 weeks for them to go away. But the worst part? When I took the braids out, clumps and clumps of hair came out with them. I'm talking full strands from the root. My hair has never fallen out like this. I could feel how much thinner it was -- and I was devastated. I genuinely believe the way they handled my hair caused severe damage, and I'm still dealing with the fallout. This shop should be investigated. Between the poor sanitation, inconsistent and rude customer service, and the physical damage done to my hair, it's clear there's a serious lack of professionalism and accountability. I will be filing a complaint with the state board, and I would absolutely never return or recommend this place to anyone. read more

200Below Braids - My hair that kept coming out after taking my braids out - Hair Stylists Near Me - Sacramento, California

I really like how they braid my hair. It lasts at least 6 to 8 weeks and I get it redone every time so good job.

I booked an appointment for 9am. I arrived early & walked to the door right on time. The salon was empty with only one stylist working on a weave. I waited until I was approached by someone asking my name & then directing me where to sit. There was a second customer approached the same way. As my stylist begin setting up behind me the original stylsit came to confirm what I wanted. I booked online... So i confirmed i wanted small bra strap length braids. she flicked my hair & said it was too long & said Mid back length, ok? I agreed. she walked away then came back & said my total today was $255. I asked if that was minus my deposit & she walked away. I asked my stylist to confirm & she said "idk the price talk to her" referring to the original stylist who greeted me. she came back & I asked is that minus the deposit. she said no & asked how much I paid. I told her $68.xx. she said ok. ok. we began braiding by 10am. by 12 a braid assistant arrived & began braiding my braids down. They got finished at 6pm. I allowed the stylist to get videos of her work & then asked where do i pay. I got to the counter & the 2nd braid assistant said my total was $355. I asked why & she said "idk that's the total". So i explained what happened on arrival & how I was told $255 before the services began. My stylist claimed to not have heard our conversation but knew the total was $355. The other stylist said she never said that. They called the owner, who left, & she claimed to also not have heard our conversation but knew she said $355. She claimed that they don't offer braids that cheap (but their name is 200 below braids & it's advertised in their shop). I explained to her that it is deceptive to make one claim prior to the service & change it after. I was willing to pay the increased price for the longer length that I know my hair is not too long for (I specialize in braids as well) but not a hike of $100. The owner apologized & settle for $255 plus my $68 deposit. I paid & i left. about 20 minutes after that I got a phone call from the owner saying she listened to her cameras & she heard the stylist say $355. Now mind you there was a fake gucci bucket hat half sitting over the camera they had behind the stations. Not sure how it managed to capture the audio but i explained to her that no matter how well they repeat that they heard nothing but $355 is not enough because i personally would not agree to paying that much for braid services. I would have declined & asked for my deposit back or even forfeited it because that's well beyond my budget. I asked her why did she call & she said to tell me. I told her they have a lot of red flags like AI pictures in the advertisement along with pictures of other stylist work throughout their website & in their shop. she said "so i can not have posters inside" i told here you can but it's a false representation of what they offer because my braids look nothing like the image represented on their booking website site. & their is no disclaimer suggesting the pictures are for entertainment. I give 2 stars because the work is well done. If they properly advertise what THEY can produce & the exact cost (not a price range) of the service & even a time estimate that would make this a great place to continue being serviced at. I will not be going back based on the MANY red flags including the price change at the last minute. read more

Nicky was the person who braided me she did a really good job. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she executed very well.

Overpriced is an understatement!! The pricing online isn't what it is when you get to the shop. And the worst part being that they'd have you sit, start with your hair and then one of them walks up to you with a phony screenshot from her phone as a price list and then proceeds to tell you that's the price. Mind you $355 (which was what I was charged) was never stated on the website. Waist length knotless braids, but the extensions are barely touching my waist, the strands are thin like they were managing the extensions. Everything was so wrong with. I'm not one to complain about my hair do, but if I absolutely have to then of course there was a problem. Plus, all the stylist didn't seem to know the price of anything, they work there but have to call the Boss to haggle prices with customers. They literally just come up with whatever price they seem fit and it's left for you to be okay with it or not. Very BAD!!! Very Disappointing as well- Did I also mention that she made sure to collect payment even before the hair appointment started? If I could give a 0 star!!! read more

I booked an appointment at the Mack Road location on 04/15/2025 and had Stephanie install my weave using the invisible method. My hair looked good, paid $375 and I went home. On 04/28/205 I noticed that the invisible part kept opening and revealing the base of the weave, it looked horrible. So I called the shop and asked if they can see me and use a crotchet needle to cover the opening part ( coz thats what Stephanie did). The person who picked when I called told me that Stephanie wasnt at the shop and she wont be back for like a month. I told her i understood that and asked her if anyone else can just fix the hair for me. She told me she was gonna call me back. I waited the whole day but she never called me. So I have just called her today on 04/29/2025 and reminded her that she was supposed to call me back. She didnt even acknowledge that but she went ahead to tell me that no one can do my hair. So i attempted to tell her that its not a very complex thing that needs to be done because I saw wat Stephanie did while she installed my weave. I kid you not, the woman on the phone started screaming at me, she said if I dont like how my hair looks I should take it down myself and that she doesnt care if I paid to get the hair done, I should go and find someone else to do my hair. So I asked her if this is how they treat their clients, she said she can treat me whichever way she wants and that she doesnt care, she hang up on me. A few minutes later, the shop called me and i picked, just to see how far people can go to humiliate themselves and how unprofessional they can get. The person who called me introduced herself as Stephanie's sister, she didnt let me talk she simply told me,"Listen to me" and she went on and on to explain how the girls at the shop are experiencing family loss( am sorry for ur loss). But this is no way to treat a client. You guys are so rude and very unprofessional with the worst customer care. read more
