Towering over is the famous St. Mary's church, so the Hungry pumpkin is perfect for tired tourists or city wanderers. The interior itself is warm and inviting, so i quickly sat down and was pleasantly surprised at the variety on offer. I ordered a cappuccino and a salmon panini. The coffee itself was a beautiful Italian arabica, coated with chocolate powder and served with a small Italian biscuit on the side. Absolutely delicious. The panini was packed with smoked salmon and goats cheese, and was very tasty. Price wise, it was similar to most cafes. I ought to try their full breakfasts next time, they look great. This would have been £0.25 more than normal, however, I was charged my usual price of £3.75 which had a further £0.25 knocked off as a reusable cup discount. The staff seemed friendly enough and my drink was okay, it was a little too milky however and the espresso wasn't as strong which was a shame. My order was my usual Venti Iced Vanilla Bean Macchiato. The selection of food was pretty poor, sadly they didn't have any of the gluten-free paninis which is a real shame which means they had no gluten-free food offerings, especially after the brownie was discontinued a while ago now. After the order was placed they can out to ask which baked potato we had ordered (really - I told you!). When it came out it was ok - but £8 for a baked potato - huh!? And then the brought out the wrong panini (she specified NO cheese because she has to avoid salt). So Mrs G essentially left hers uneaten and I ate mine but was still starving. That delight with 2 sodas - over £24! Will we be back? To the marina yes, to the Apple Tree - no thank you!

As it was raining this afternoon we decided to grab a drink & came at The Appletree. A cafe in a beautiful setting next to the Marina with a high ceiling, fancy lights, mirrors and a baby grand piano. I had a glance at the cake counter there was a good selection of cakes but I decided to go for a cream tea. My partner wanted the same but with coffee. I had to pay extra for coffee but not much. We waited a little while for the drinks etc to come. The only thing that spoiler the tranquil setting was a child screaming which was amplified by the vaulted ceiling. My cream tea arrived, a large pot of tea with a fruit scone accompanied by jam & clotted cream. It was all lovely. Our visit was only marred by the noise of the child but that happens everywhere we go and the toilet being out of order and the nearest public toilet being at the top of the Marina. Glad the large pot of tea didn't take effect.

As soon we entered we were greeted with a smiling face asking how we were, that kind of positive impression goes a long way! Although its table service, we were drawn to the tempting looking cakes under the counter, the coffee cake looked fantastic and I liked the fact you could see the staff preparing cakes, salads etc, behind the counter. But breakfast was definitely the order of the day, a decent amount of choice from teacakes to a Full English. I went for the Bacon and Sausage Sandwich with doorstep granary bread, fantastically tasty, courtesy of high quality ingredients and very fresh bread. My wife had a large teacake which was equally tasty. The drinks we had were OK, the cappuccino a little milky, and the coffee a little weak, but on the whole, a great breakfast, all the better with the wonderfully sunny outlook, this tearoom has. We will definitely return for breakfast again and to sample those tempting cakes. A few other things worth mentioning, they sell bread, cakes and rolls too, as well as making celebration cakes to order. Be aware though, the only toilet is up some steep stairs.
